I started taking a hard look at the frame on the front end of the
Corvette and realized we have quite a bit of clean-up work to do
before we can begin reassembly. Dr. Eyeball cold starts his 6.5 Detroit Diesel and an ECM tune and turbo upgrade.

The welds on my ‘75 look the same. Btw, I like that vintage ‘MS State’ hoodie..

When these were built, I'm sure they were still stick welding, and they probably hired some kid and told him where to point the rod and left him to do it.
I'm sure your back problem is in the lower lumbar region. That's where it gets us mostly.
After trying a few pills and solanpas and other things, the VA gave me a TENS (Transcutanious Electrical Nerve Stimulation).
I used it several times, and each time, it got better.
I haven't used it in several months because I have very little trouble and pain now.
It's just a little device with leads and pads you stick on the affected area and turn it on with different pulses and intensities.
If you can get one through your insurance, it might help, and anytime you start having back problems, use it until you get rid of the problem.
It's better than taking pills. Ibuprofen is known to damage the kidneys, and acetaminophen damages the liver, so try to avoid them.
Anyway, have a happy new year.

I guess if you don't actually enjoy the process of rebuilding an engine then a machine shop is the way to go. However rebuilding an engine is great content and I personally at the end of the day like the feeling that I know my engine was done exactly the way I wanted it done with no short cuts. I have also seen and heard plenty of horror stories about engine rebuilders quite similar to your carb rebuild experiences sadly.

Man I hear you. Those very thoughts have been going through my head. lol.... I'm still kind of on the fence. The price I get quoted will tell the real story here in a few weeks. We do have some good local shops in the area however.
