I spoke to one your colleagues in Milton Keynes a few weeks ago recovering a car for the insurance company after a minor collision. It’s clear to me that everyone at the company is passionate and enjoys their work that they do. He spoke very highly of you Steve
I had to get towed back from Gatwick last week by R&S. I was disappointed that I didn't get to meet the legend Steve. Had a good chat with the young lad sent out from Guildford depot though. Top job!
Shame mate , never recovered anyone who seen my videos before , think must been Colin saw him towing coach on M40 , i had this Daf on back going other way lol.
YT recommended me this video, glad it did. The amount of skill you possess to navigate tight urban roads with an artic behind you is incredible. That section with the roadworks had me anxious with how little room there is either side of the cab. Very professionally handled, great work!
Absolutely lovely to see someone doing a job "properly". I dont know how to do your job, but I can see by how you work and how you store your tools and take the utmost care, that you know what you are doing. I really respect that. It's lovely to see the driver cares too!
The sikh in the video reminds me of fifty years ago. I used to go from the west country to London with around forty drops from Chiswick, then on to Poplar, Bow and Stratford. When I had completed the East of London I would be away up to Kings Lyn. On one occasion I had to return to London to pick up 5 tonnes of paper for Somerset. I called to the address in East Ham and found that their yard was so clogged with parked vehicles that I could not gain access with a long trailer. Also the fork lift had broken down. I knew it was important to get the paper back to my base for the next morning so I started to hand ball the paper on to the trailer. It was early evening and raining. Miserable but all part of the job. Several people made comments as they passed by, one though, a teenage Sikh lad started to help me and then another, I think it was his mate, joined in, again a Sikh. I don't know if helping people is part of their religion. I shall never forget that kindness.
I do recovery in a 12t flatbed in and around London and struggle to navigate some areas. So amazed to see how you handle these tight streets, whilst dragging an Artic Lorry.
Thanks for watching , does help when you have a driver with you who knows the best route back to his depot. But sometimes you come to some road junctions that you just cant make the turn.
Always good to have someone with local knowledge. After 34 years delivering it to London im hanging my keys up but i will miss the job all flatbed work but the job was good and it was a good CF that kept the wheels turning before that a ERF and a fordon and sed atky before that
What a legend that bloke you was recovering "push push push" I think he was telling you Steve to push 😂.. and that delivery vehicle you saw a strange looking thing
I used to work in London, don't miss it one bit, knew exactly where you picked up from too! When you are too old for scrabbling under trucks, I think you would make an excellent instructor for IVR or similar
Great job again Steve, thanks for sharing. Still getting my head around the requirement and number of air lines that you need for a unit and trailer, but your detailed narration in this video did help me understand a bit more. Don't envy you driving through London! Looking forward to the next one.
That was fun, I suddenly realised that you were going on what was my route home 25 years ago from the A40 into Acton, very nostalgic. Not much has changed! That cannot be easy driving that combo you had, very skillful and what a lot of patience you must need with other drivers.
Its been a while Steve, watched all the way through enjoyed your trip down Hanger lane brought back many memorys of coach driving many years ago. Thanks please dont leave it so long best regards as ever Ken.
I am glad i do not drive my box truck into Stockholm proper here in Sweden, lots of people/cars/tight spots i keep myself out in the suburbs, sure some tight spots when you go to old residential areas but next to no traffic, really nice work done.
I love watching your videos. I live down in cornwall, never been to london but half of the roads look tighter than ours! It's amazing watching you navigate such a huge load through these roads
I used to work for a car auction company nd we had the We Buy contract, collecting from near Heathrow and bound for the depot up at Newcastle. The way it worked the more I could load the more we made in commission so 12 car loads were the order of the day and a lot of head scratching as the route out included a bad junction followed by a 16 foot bridge as you were still pulling out the junction itself. The gearbox let go just as I got the peak under the bridge , that was a fun job for all involved as the pto wouldn't engage so lot's of hand pumping just to limbo under the bridge as once lifted it was measuring 16'2". Lost a couple of aerials on the concrete cow bridges near Milton Keynes on the way back north :) Managed to dump the load in the services a few hundred yards from the depot and run them away on trade plates to save all the grief of trying to get to the yard before heading to the dealer north of the Tyne.
Hi Glen thanks for sharing that mate , bit of a nightmare for us to recover as well long and high with cars on. How you work out how to fit all the cars on them takes some experience i bet , hats of to you.
really enjoyed this video. very interesting to watch. wish more drivers gave way to lorry such as yourself having to need a wide turn, it must be so frustrating to be in these situations and needing eyes everywhere. i honestly feel for drivers in such large vehicles. drivers today on the roads are all in such a rush and dont give way as much as they used too. life on the road as a recovery driver must be so dangerous, you having to load up such a big vehicle'' and having to be under it connecting up to your recovery lorry in these horrible and dangerous circumstances, right next to a busy road! all the time under there you must be constantly praying to god no one drives into the parked up lorry!! i honestly hold my hat of f to you buddy. god bless you, subscribed 👍👍👍👍👍THUMBS UP👍👍👍👍👍 Anthony Derby, uk
The gentleman you recovered the truck for, he was quite concerned about his truck when you were hooking up. I thought our streets here in New Zealand were narrow in our cities. No where near as narrow as the streets there in england. Good video.
@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve I haven't done towing recovery. I have class 2 and 4 truck licenses (not sure what the English equivalent is sorry). Class 2 is upto 18 ton, class 4 is upto 24 ton. When i was truck driving, it was metro frieght curtain sider with tail lift. You'll know that is a physical job, in and out of truck, some forklift, some physically moving pellets with trolley jack.
Very nicely done Sir. The Sikh gentleman was as I've always found Sikhs to be. Polite, helpful and respectful. Amazing job getting around the tight streets of old Londinium town. Gobsmacked a bimmer driver gave you time and space where the road narrowed at the pedestrian crossing. Also as you turned right that moped rider wasn't for moving even though they can see you're pulling a blooming massive combo behind you. Evidently of the Jeremy Vine persuasion. 😂
Always scary for these recoveries on the highway - at least this one was along the entrance lane. Nice idea to use that mat on the ground - stay a bit less dirty and wet. Thanks for explaining all the air and electrical connections. Good when the driver is helpful (at least don't get in the way!).
You passed 500 metres from where I used to live when you turned right off the A 40. I moved out of that area 30 years ago but still drove 44 tonners out of Park Royale until I emigrated in 2005. It's amazing how little yet how much it's changed. I notice Sadiq Khan has screwed everything up...

awesome video Steve; what would be next level mate is getting a couple of go pros that you can stick to the roof and the side of your cab so when you are doing those tight turns you can show how what's being towed moves through those turns. Not a criticism though; fantastic driving. I drive just medium rigid transporters around the city of Auckland NZ and I find navigating some of the inner cities roads very exhausting mentally. Props that you can do what you do and keep such a calm demeanor.
Impressive! Fascinated that the recovery truck has custom place for removed half shaft. I guess you remove the shaft to reduce rolling resistance by effectively isolating the diff from the prop shaft. I noted on the bus recovery you had to remove both sides. I guess that is because the rear engine and gear box are integrated into a transaxle - just like my 1972 Hillman Imp. Orbs not in the same league as a bus engine!
A nice recovery with as always safety in mind on hard shoulder helpful driver seemed a nice Guy that little parcel van was a bit quick on roundabout seeing as it was very small to see, stay safe out there.

Great job Steve, didn't know all the prep you had to do before moving the vehicle, you detail everything - Amazing and professionally carried out by a man that really cares. Love how easy you make it look hauling an artic around. Question for you, Why don't you run all the time with your beacons on, seems like you only use them at points of Hazard ? Hi James , that's how we instructed to use them as Warning Beacons , if we keeping up with traffic flow and not obstructing another lane we would not normally have them turned on as a warning.
Nice one Steve , on those roadworks where they have the free recovery I wonder how they get the wreckers to the casualty vehicle if it's ahead of the recovery site especially where you have solid concrete safety barriers in place ?
Great video, First time watching you and it really was some great driving through London. My only question, is there a reason why you don't put the suzie's through the trucks mirrors to hold them up out the way? just watching you sort them out and I was questioning it. Thanks
Hi Sam thanks for watching , use to when air lines were new but now they bit marked and rough so could mark paintwork on doors , so tend drop down now to step to be honest.
That was incredible! So much love and respect for you and the Sikh passenger, he helped you out so much getting back to the depot. I'm now a subscriber as I spent 10 years of my 35 year old life working on and repairing HGVs

Hi Norman thanks for watching , must be a nightmare mate , must have to drive down and reverse back.
This was really interesting. As a layperson I had no idea how much prep work you have to do on these vehicles to be able to tow them.
Thanks very much for watching , normally hope to be loaded on way in 45 minutes on most jobs.
Thanks for watching and subscribing , most drivers i pick our pretty helpful to be honest and always have a good chat with them.
You're more than welcome and I can imagine that they're helpful and chatty. Even now I work in warehousing so there's always lorries coming and going, I get to chat with the drivers and 9 time out of 10 they're dead on@@HeavyRecoverywithSteve
Good work Steve, and excellent passenger. Good luck to both of you .

You always make it look so easy, but it takes years of experience to be able to do that.

Another example of a video that shouldn’t be fascinating but is 😊
