I think the RAT is the indisputable WINNER of all guitar dirt pedals: it can do ANYTHING from boost to fuzz, sounds great, it's pretty cheap and, well, it's among the most beloved dirt pedals around, whatever the style. You simply can't go wrong with the old trusty RAT.
And it's all about how the amp influences the sound... Fender Bassman definitely has it's own character, a flavour it brings to a tone shaping process and sometimes it spoils the sound, it's just not the same that one could achieve on his amp. Personally i still have Mudhoney and in the past i had TC, Rat and OD-3. What I can remember, TC is fine but doesn't impress at all, Rat and OD-3 on my amps could be replaced by Mudhoney with no regrets (and that's what I did, especially new MH has 2 circuits). I play through Bugera V22 or Vox Night Train and the sounds are all different. And you compare ODs and distortions (like apples and oranges). Sometimes they are on the same field, sometimes they are not
Tc electronics, for my setup (vox ac15 plus bright strat) is the one. The golden brownie sounds harsh to me. The rat was a surprise. I considered fuzzy but U really make sound good
I am not a fan of Boss in general, but their OD is really singing and good for every style.. Btw. the decent Mudhoney is lacking presence in rhythm a lot!
No clones? The Golden Brownie is an JCM800 preamp in a box and that Dead Man's Hand nonsense pedal is rebranded Rowin aliexpress pedal clone of an FT OCD. The Mudhoney is a rat variant. I mean Come on guys.

Golden Brownie is a smashing and brutal preamp! Best pedal for the money. Dark Matter is really nice. I have both for a long time.
I thought in the mix they all sounded the same. The Golden Brownie , Rat, and Nobles were great especially with the dynamics test .
