I've been looking deperately for years for my old, decrepit VHS of this. It's probably in the rings of Saturn with all the lost socks. THANK YOU SO MUCH for uploading this!
What a genius of a film this is.. John Cleese has been a hero of mine since I was a kid. They all play fabulously together in the film.. and I can't imagine it being done any better at all. ..
How many times did Donahue cut Michael Palin off when he was still speaking briefly and loudly go back to John Cleese ? I lost count. Then he let Cleese ramble on and on. Donahue also seemed to forget that Kevin Kline was there. He even called Michael ‘ Pallin’ not ‘ Palin’. 🤣
It's a strange format for a cast interview, a relic of a bygone era (before the Simpsons!). Still, great interview - Jaime is very cute, the lads are dashing.
Interesting case study, if nothing else. I think the right combination of British and Americans make a great team. I certainly enjoy the company of Americans - I like the enthusiasm. It makes me smile.
Being an American, that is much appreciated. Thank you:) Unfortunately, I feel that Americans are becoming less and less impressive as the years go by. Selfish and over indulgent. I personally enjoy Great Britain, English culture, and the people within. Hopefully America can turn itself around and regain some respect before it's too late.
This entire cast from "A Fish Called Wanda" -- John Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline and Michael Palin -- appear on the American talk show "Donahue." Great fun and hilarity ensues (but no silly walks). Enjoy this home-archived video from Thursday September 1, 1988.
Yeah she did not like how he worded that question... Basically said you were irrelevant before this and how did you get casted? Jamie looked shocked...
@@albiman68 Back in 88 I only dreamed of having a 27" TV. If I could go back to 1988 I would happily trade my now 65" for that 27" and the first thing I would do is go to the theater to see Die Hard :)
I haven't seen Donahue since I was a kid. Boy, is he the epitome of a mediocre white man. He has four of the brightest, funniest, most intelligent people you'll ever meet and he drags them down into his banal little world. This is just awful.
I remember this interview way back when it originally aired in 1988. Jamie Lee Curtis is just embarrassing to watch, trying to be funny. Especially after the 12:20 mark when she's pretending to be bored by Cleese, leaning on him, pretending to be going to sleep. Cringe. Meanwhile, Cleese and Palin are bouncing jokes off of everyone and each other and being really witty and truly funny. Its as if they stepped foot off the Monty Python set only 10 minutes earlier as opposed to 15 years earlier.

Did you ever find it?
Wow, that was fantastic ad lib between Cleese and Curtis. She stole this show

This is what I love about UA-cam - can find *anything*- like a pop culture Library of Congress
Thx for the upload 🙏🏻
Pop Culture Library of Congress - love that!!
@@DABA2024 You know it! Thx, Da Badass
Mr Kline stole the show in this movie. He rightfully deserved the best supporting actor award.
A solid performance
The 80s-ness of the audience is mind boggling lol
that movie is genius.
jamie lee rocks!
At about 10:10 Jamie Lee Curtis starts throwing Donahue some funny stuff but Donahue just wasn't ready for that. So fun to see him so flustered.
Gotta love the 80's fashion.

He looks like Ravising Rick Rude... just saying... And Rick Rude looked like Freddy Mercury when he trimmed his hair.
dream team, i love this movie
Talk about dead studio audiences. Donahue and the audience sucked so bad. This is the funniest movie!
They had the tv on the stool for link. Haha amazing
That is the mullet of a true vulgarian.

Jamie Lee just totally DISSED him at 3:34 and Phil doesn't get it...wow
I noticed that too! Cleese got it!
Yeah she did not like how he worded that question... Basically said you were irrelevant before this and how did you get casted? Jamie looked shocked...
lol that audience guy at 0:29 is seriously unimpressed
Donahue said . . . . I watched your film and it was brilliant. I doubt he watched any of it.
Who IS this guy, and why is he ruining this interview?!
His name is Phil Donahue - and he was both brilliant and embarrassing.
Did they ever figure out what Phil Donahue's problem was?
They couldn’t find a bigger TV?
1988... That's a 27''..... The biggest there was!

I humbly disagree
Cathcart towers hotel hear the Heathrow airport.
@12:24 LMAO
Donahue always sucked!!!
He was always so full of himself and
the audience, judging by their enthusiasm(?),
never knew any better....
I never realized as a young kid, how truly boring Donahue really was!!!!!
Holy crap, how did Phil Donahue ever get (much less keep) a talk show? If this segment is any indication, he was utterly talentless.
Wow. Donahue was SO lame
jlc is so pretty
I'm from Cleveland and am embarrassed that Phil Donahue is too
Phil is quite the douche-bag
Sorry to hear that Jeff:(
I was so used to Donahue - reading these comments I had forgotten how off-putting he could be.

You are so right. JLC are so annoying !!
9:18 'Please don't show the whole movie'
Roger Pankow stfu
Was probably bemused that they edited out the best part
🙂
Wasted on that audiance
Benny Hill considered funnier than Monty Python by two TV stations-- WOR and WLVI.
This was when Cleese was funny
Was? What planet are you living on!?!
