I remember in the late 1960s when the first "black lace" angels were introduced. They were perfectly shaped and proportioned. But they were fragile and didn't hold up in my tank. I think scalares then were more impressive and uniform in shape and size. Today many look a little deformed and growth stunted. Some seem to lack gill covers. I personally don't like the colors varieties, other than the original wild color and the blacks. Nice video
Black lace ARE scalare, so... yeah. Altum angelfish (or titan angels) are the naturally hard-to-keep ones. I have a pair of them who didn’t eat for the first two MONTHS I had them, almost died. Teardrop angels (or Dwarf angels) are the smallest angels at 4” max, but they’ll eat readily at any size.
my angelfish are so lovely... whenever I walk pass them they swim so fast towards me and start "dancing", and they keep following me XD one of them even let me pet him!
I bought 2 angelfish (in my profile pic as well as in multiple videos of mine) i bought them as babies about the size of a quarter. They grew up and displayed all the awesome traits you talked about. They turned out to be male and female and once they got about palm size the spawned about once a week. They began fighting constantly. And the male would eat all the eggs. It got so bad that the female would have open wounds all over her body and she quit growing. I felt so terrible and it was so defeating because i couldnt get them to stop. It was all day long they never quit. I love angels but that makes me so hesitant to ever keep them again.
We have 4 angels in our tank. They have paired off. I have seen one pair in mating behavior several times but nothing else happened. Gabriel I think is the male. He is a Marble black and white with Veil fins. His mate is Raphael who is a Koi coloration with Standard fins. We think Raphael is the female. The other two are Michael (almost black but does have stripes) and Ariel (Gray and silver). Each pair occupies one end of the 55 gallon tank. They get along OK, but Ariel does bully Raphael quit often especially if they get close to each other. They are all between 4 and 5 years old now.
I have three angels in a 180 litre tank with 30-odd cardinal, glowlight & rummy-nose tetras. Never had any trouble at all with fin nipping. All three of those tetras are larger bodied species, so no worries about them being eaten. Any of the deep bodied tetras, Hemigrammus species for example, should be fine with angelfish as long as they don't nip. As you say, neons don't work so well with angels. They stay small, so end up being eaten. In my experience they also tend to be bad for fin nipping.
Yayy!! I love your video's! Can you please do a top 10/5 vid of wich fish are the best tank mates with angels? Or wich fish are most fun to keep with angelfish? I just made a big aquarium and Im thinking about wich fish i should buy ;) and do you need to keep angels in a pack of 5/6/7 doe that matter?
what he was saying was preferable, but i do a 25% water change once every 2 weeks and one 50% a month, and only feed once a day and my angles produce lots of fry
Everyone says angle fish need space but u don't have to if u don't want them to grow I have 65 litre and I was told 10 baby angle fish so I'll get. 7 and some tetras
Cliona Caplis they will grow no matter how big your tank is, 65l for 7 is too small, in a 65l max to keep is 1 or 2 but 1 is preferable . they will die if you keep 7 in a 65l
I only ever had one angelfish die and he was young, I also had times when mine did not eat when they were small and had to treat the tank to get them to eat. Once they are adults they are extremely durable.
What is your water temperature in your tank that you have the angle and discus? because I read that discus could not be below 75f or angles above 80f ?
When I had Oscars, I could throw a few feeders in the tank and they would only eat as they wanted. Some feeders would make it a week before being eaten
Will Angel fishes be a good tank mates with a Bichir? Or will they be too small? Please let me know I've been looking forward on getting one. Anyone that has had experience Bichirs. Thanks.
Thanks for the info. Just starting breeding a gorgeous blue angel and marble. Your videos have been very helpful. It's my first time but I'd like to keep doing it and get better at it. My Blue male is really nice to so I'm really looking forward to when they get bigger.
I got a 55gal tank w/2gold, 2 black and 2 regular angels and 2 blue goramis and 2 gold goramis. Everybody gets along real good ,the angels fight some but I think its more playin than anything.
Great information! Angelfish are about the only breed of cichlids I can keep living besides Oscars. I went into a pet store and they had a gigantic Angelfish about 7" in diameter for $15 but I didn't have a large enough tank at the time so I left it. I'm hoping to grow my own that big because it was a conversation piece for sure. I really didn't want to buy it that big and everyone to ask me about it and I have to tell them I bought it that size. To me that wouldve been cheating. I also didn't know how old it was either so I decided to pass..
Do they also eat hair algae off of live aquarium Plants? I saw one of my newly acquired veil tailed angels were eating some dead hair algae on my java fern leaf.
Great informative vid 🤘😀👍 i have had 4 coi angel fish paired with bentosi tetras alongside gold panda mollys and long fin zebra danios, for some time now, a chill tank in my parts. Thank you sir for the info 👍
Cristal Acosta The males will have sort of a hump on the forehead. The females will have a smoother transition from mouth/nose region to the forehead where the males have a more angular transition.
Yes a hump on the head means a male and humps may grow bigger the older the angels get... but i want to be more specific : a lot of males will never grow humps so no humps does not mean it's a female ... in fact a clean genetic type of male angelfish will NEVER have a hump on his head. So in a lot of cases and especially genetic clean angels are per definition monomorph. Monomorphism means that there is not 1 difference in appearance between males and females, meaning you will not be able to determine the sex of the species you have. In general, females are smaller then males, but that is not always the case and no morphism differnce, it's just the size that can be influenced by a lot of parameters, not telling you what sex the fish is. So you'll only know you have a male and a female when 2 angels pair off and the female lays the eggs first. Only then you also see the round papilla (egg tube) coming out of the female, which is the only real biological determined difference from outside view. Other information explaining the difference between males and females, is in my opinion, to be questioned.
TheBSideDJ the lower long fins also play a huge role when we have pure genetic angels like you mentioned, in cases like that the males will have a fork shaped lower fin, the female will have a spear shaped lower fin, this only doesn't work on super vail tails.
My neon tetras are totally scarred from years of battle with my angelfish. It's sad but also crazy cool. I was very unlucky with discus in the same tank as my angelfish though.
Master Aquatic we have three angel fish but when it's feeding time they don't go in the front of the aquarium than the other fish but we have 1 female and 2 male but the other 2 is pair than the big one cause we buy him in a pet shop then I find clown loaches they are just little then we see a big angel fish it was 100Ph he was the most fully grown angel fish
Will they eat or tear up delicate aquatic plants like staurogyne repens or microswords? I planted 2 microsword bunches( i didnt cut or separate them) yesterday. So far both plants are intact.
Problem is when the angelwish get bigger THEY WILL eat smaller fish. It happened to me..every morning I woke up and some of guppies or neon tetra would miss.
I feed my angel fishes 3 times a day. My fish tank is pretty clear. But I'm not sure about genders. I have 4 pairs of angelfishes. But I don't know how do they breed and how can I get fries from them? Any idea?
I am keeping 4 angel fishes with my 5 adult tiger barbs , but surprisingly they are doing pretty well to stay with each other peacefully. Can somebody explain the reason behind that out of book behavior?
Can someone please help me my bf and I were thinking about buying a 45-60 gallon fish tank for my baby for Christmas/ bday but I was wondering if angelfish get along with male cherry Barb's, nerite snail, guppies, and corydoras? Also if you have any suggestions of other pretty fishies I want it to be colorful so my baby will be interested in them. And lastly how many of each fish do you think I should get?
My angelfish were the worst! I had 2 in a 150 gallon community tank with mollys, swordfish, guppys, platies and neons and once they grew big enough the angelfish started eating their babies!!! Then as they got even older it was much worse, they started eating the adult fish! Within a year I was down to just swordtails and Molly’s and no babies so they were starting to die off. Now I have 2 adult koi angelfish and 3 baby platinum ones (and about 10 mollys and 13 swordtails.. oh and ONE female guppy)
I have a silver angelfish, had him for about a month, i have these cubes of frozen brine shrimp that i put in the water and rub it with my thumb so the shrimp kinda floats out. All the other fish love it but my angel doesnt eat it he only eats flake. But when i first got my angel he was very timid, he would hide and fade when i fed the fish, i thought that was why he never ate the shrimp he was kinda scard but then i saw him slowly get used to the tank day by day. Now when he's hungry he swims to the top and follows you as you walk by. But he still doesnt eat the shrimp or bloodworms or krill. He only likes the flakes. I try to vary their diet. Is he sick or is he just a picky eater?
Hello thank you very much after seeing this video somedays ago .I went and I bought angel fish and yes they are nice thanks. I have a question please Can I use aquarium salt and Epsom salt for angel fish? As I have discus fish and some time when my discus is stressed and sick I do use salt with out any problems. Please advise . Thanks
How many angelfish do you think I could keep in a 23 litre tank. I'm wondering if it would be suitable... probably not! Also do angelfish eat their babies? Thanks
So I'm setting up a 60 gallon, and Angel's are at the top of my list if what fish I want, you mention you've done shrimp with Angel's and had no problems. I've had quite a few people tell me to avoid shrimp with angels since the shrimp will become food, so there a specific type of shrimp that works best with angels?
Haha angelfish are too smart for my liking, kept them with my guppies which I tried to breed and used a breeder net but my angelfish ate the fry throught the net, when any fry got close to the edge of the net.
Dude.. is it true that Angel fish eat argulus parasites? I know a person who breeds koi fish and he has many Angel fish and he told me that he keeps them to prevent argulus parasites from infesting his pond..
I do have a breeding pair but they annoy me every time, the female lays her eggs on the side of my power head which goes to an overhead sump and the parents when fanning the eggs knock them and they instantly get sucked up -.- and as soon as I turn the lights off they eat the rest!!
love the video! I have two that were given to me as a breeding pair. they ended up being two females and started fighting after the second time they laid eggs. I separated them so one is in my 55 community tank and the other is in the 40 breeding tank. not sure what I want to do now 😌
Wht if i put water filter in aquerium when angel fish alread been there then eggs of angel fish suck in it or not.. then wht to do for not suck up angel fish eggs in watet filter have u any idea wht to do then
I had a beautiful veil-tail angelfish once. The only problem was that his body didn't really grow, but his fins kept growing and growing and growing until he just looked freaky. He literally did not have the strength to support his growing fin-bulk. One day I came home and he was caught up in the filter. When I turned it off, he just fell lifeless to the bottom of the tank. :(
The Red Sterling Mc'Bae how big was the tank he was in? If the tank was too small for the angel he might of been stunted. Which means the tank was too small or the water was too dirty too often and the angelfish was not able to grow like it is suppose to. A good looking angelfish has a well rounded body and long and proportional fins.
He was in a rather spacious 100-gallon tank. I think he was just a mutant because his tank mate (Deimos, though not a veil-tail) grew to be a very large and girthy angelfish, even long after the veil-tail (Phobos) was dead.
About three years, Deimos grew to be a very large size. Due to his dark color accompanied with the glittering gold and green, almost glowing ruby red solid eye color and size, I got lots of compliments on the fish. I fed all of my fish either bloodworms, smaller live fish, standard fish flakes or the safe, healthy stuff I was eating. (Cleaned greens, watery fruits, a little bit of fish.) I changed the water weekly, gave it treatments and made sure the filter was changed. Poor Phobos though had this tiny 1 1/2-inch body while his bizarre and unnatural 9-inch fins exploded in the back of him. (He also had some weirdly shaped lips, like a duck bill.) He was kind of cool to look at because he was a solid inky black all over and the fins looked like vertical curly-cue feathers in the water, but I could tell he was struggling. The weight was too much because when he was swimming in place, the fins would go down and pull him down to the floor. Phobos' body didn't grow. He was basically all fin, which makes me think he had a strange rare disorder and he slipped through the cracks at the pet store. I really miss those fish.
I've got a red devil angelfish. She's a 2 years old female named Tabata. I'd like to have a boyfriend for her, possibly black, but she's a bit stubbord and I can't find a sized adult male not to risk she can hurt him. She's my sweetie, but she recognize only me eheheh
Great video I love angelfish you don’t have any yet but there in my plan Only thing I can say is an angelfish or an angelfish pair Not A angelfish lol that was bugging me sorry lol
hes talking about 2 species of angels like they are they same back in the day we called koi angels marble angels you can put a new name on the fist but its not a new fish
Those would be called variants. Species would be the common angel(Scalare), the Altum(Altum), and Teardrop(Leopoldi). Those are the three species. Variants would be like the Philippine blues, platinums, black lace, koi, marbles. The difference is the skull shapes. Altum have the steepest heads and tallest bodies, Leopoldi have no skull-body ridge, meaning a flat-looking face, and Scalare with a normal face ridge and a less pronounced body slope. Males and females are a different thing. Ask me later.

I have a tank with guppys can I keep an angel in their
MasterAquatics I have had my angel fish for a month or two for a while but they dont follow my finger or know when im feeding them
Great video ! Might breed some angels !
Is it better to have one or two?
Angelfish are so friendly towards their owners, I love having them.
Yeah me too! :)
How do u get the angels to love you
I drag their food container across the glass before i feed them. They recognize it every time and go crazy with anticipation!
My Angelic Fish killed everything in the tank and bites my fingernails clean off anytime in around the tank.
Should i buy 2 angelfish with a suckerfish?
I remember in the late 1960s when the first "black lace" angels were introduced. They were perfectly shaped and proportioned. But they were fragile and didn't hold up in my tank.

Mine doesn't;(
Love my angels. They mean the world to me!
They are so intelligent and personable, and are super aggressive during feeding time and fun to watch. :)
Just got a matching pair a few days ago and I love them, right from the start when I put them in my aquarium they were very active and friendly

I always keep one at a time because bigger ones bully the heck out of the smaller ones
They are really adorable and interactive.

Amazing Animals hi! how big is your new tank? as long as they are kept in a group of even numbers they should be fine except for 2.
its almost one meter wide, and the depth is 30 cm
Mine is 75 gallons
Amazing Animals Yea
Amazing Animals I have 2 they started out the size of just bigger than a 25 cent piece and now 4x's that size in 7. months
Mine ate a flake so big I thought I'd find him dead in the morning.. Lol Great Video. I subscribed
Got one yesterday and he got stuck in the filter -.-
High flow, maybe? Angels like slower water, usually with weak pull, since they live in slow moving rivers.
Lmao
5 reasons why i shouldn't buy angelfish
1. i keep shrimps
2. i keep shrimps
3. i keep shrimps
4. i keep shrimps
5. i keep shrimps
What kind of shrimps?
MasterAquatics red nose, amano and cherries
I have 4 Angelfishes and about 30 ghost shrimps
Discoloured Buttflaps hahahaha
1. i eat shrimps
2. i eat shrimps
3. i eat shrimps
4. i eat shrimps
5. i eat shrimps
Nice video. The koi at 9:20 are beautiful. I made an angle tank for my wife and its now one of my favorites.
Don't want to be that guy but its AN angelfish

So I'm guessing between 75 and 80 then?
Oscars don't stop eating. They'll literally kill themselves with over eating
WesleyAPEX Oscars do stop eating if they had too much. Angelfish, on the other hand, do not know when to stop eating
When I had Oscars, I could throw a few feeders in the tank and they would only eat as they wanted. Some feeders would make it a week before being eaten
awesome fella's, however this vid is about angelfish....

should be ready soon
Will Angel fishes be a good tank mates with a Bichir? Or will they be too small? Please let me know I've been looking forward on getting one. Anyone that has had experience Bichirs. Thanks.
Isaac Ixtupe bichirs grow too big
Isaac Ixtupe i have a 12 inch albino senegal bichir that grew very quickly and it ate some huge 4 inch livebearers.

Shall we keep angelfish and neon tetras in a same tank ???
How can you tell difference between male and female
Cristal Acosta The males will have sort of a hump on the forehead. The females will have a smoother transition from mouth/nose region to the forehead where the males have a more angular transition.
Cristal Acosta also don't forget the lower long fins, they're very important if their forehead is not obvious.
Thank you I hope my angels pair off
Yes a hump on the head means a male and humps may grow bigger the older the angels get... but i want to be more specific : a lot of males will never grow humps so no humps does not mean it's a female ... in fact a clean genetic type of male angelfish will NEVER have a hump on his head. never use a powerhead or only use it when there are enough easy spots left in the tank.. pterophyllum like calm water, no streams or strong current.
TheBSideDJ thanks for the tip. ...
Turone Wyley I only have a canister filter with a spray bar..the bar is able to be directed in 3 directions due to it being a 3 piece bar

yeah your videos are awesome and angel fish are awesome but do you think they would make it with Jack dempseys?
My friend had an angelfish and an electric blue jack dempsey in his tank for about 7-8 years

Please advise .
Thanks
How many angelfish do you think I could keep in a 23 litre tank. I'm wondering if it would be suitable... probably not! Also do angelfish eat their babies? Thanks
I love having them and they fun to watch them eating
Does anyone on here have AngelFish with Electric Blue Acara's ?
I have my eye on 3 Blue Acara's to add to my 75 gallon tank with 6 Angels.
You should get a veiled marble angelfish
if i just feed them tetramin flakes once a day will they make babies. i have neon tetras and otocinclids...will they eat them
Awesome info, your angels look awesome!
i have bala sharks, kardinals and alot of other whit my angelfish, no problems
Hey master can you please tell me which site you get your angelfishes from? If you can post the site link would be great thanks!
I like Angelfish, but will probably never have them is because I like small tanks, 20 long and smaller.
What is that green piece that you have in your tank
Btw I don't have rodi water...i use tap water and seachem prime. And my water ph is 7.
I do have a breeding pair but they annoy me every time, the female lays her eggs on the side of my power head which goes to an overhead sump and the parents when fanning the eggs knock them and they instantly get sucked up -.-
and as soon as I turn the lights off they eat the rest!!
great vid. I learned a bunch. cheers mate.
Gorgeous!!!! What kind if filter system do you have?
So true about feeding time.. I see it daily
Nice Video! Really making me wanting to get angelfish but hesitating as they grows fast!
love the video! I have two that were given to me as a breeding pair. they ended up being two females and started fighting after the second time they laid eggs. I separated them so one is in my 55 community tank and the other is in the 40 breeding tank. not sure what I want to do now 😌
What kind is the striking orange and black?
If I want a few angelfish should I not do that many water changes?
MasterAquatics what kind is that white one with a few spots. (Mostly white)
I Loved this show. Keep up the good work
Wht if i put water filter in aquerium when angel fish alread been there then eggs of angel fish suck in it or not.. then wht to do for not suck up angel fish eggs in watet filter have u any idea wht to do then
I had a beautiful veil-tail angelfish once.
The Red Sterling Mc'Bae amazing. How long did it take for him to grow that big?
About three years, Deimos grew to be a very large size. Due to his dark color accompanied with the glittering gold and green, almost glowing ruby red solid eye color and size, I got lots of compliments on the fish. I fed all of my fish either bloodworms, smaller live fish, standard fish flakes or the safe, healthy stuff I was eating. (Cleaned greens, watery fruits, a little bit of fish.)
I changed the water weekly, gave it treatments and made sure the filter was changed.
Can they breed even if tank has other breeds of fish together.?
I've got a red devil angelfish. She's a 2 years old female named Tabata. I'd like to have a boyfriend for her, possibly black, but she's a bit stubbord and I can't find a sized adult male not to risk she can hurt him. She's my sweetie, but she recognize only me eheheh
I have kept female bettas with my angels and no issues.
my angel fish never breeds. they are healthy both silver and black combination. how do i breed them
Also my 4 angels are small...like 3-4inches..should i still feed them 2 times a day?
Can you help me out?
I have an tropical angel fish and my country is tropical too my country is philippines, do i still need the heater?
How many died? percentage wise until they mature and breed.
Great video I love angelfish you don’t have any yet but there in my plan
Only thing I can say is an angelfish or an angelfish pair
Not A angelfish lol that was bugging me sorry lol
The only thing better looking than the standard Angel in my opinion is an Altum, that is the ultimate Angel!
will the parent angle fish eat the fry? should i separate them?
hes talking about 2 species of angels like they are they same
back in the day we called koi angels marble angels you can put a new name on the fist but its not a new fish
Is 3 a good amount of angelfish to keep? Or do they prefer more?
Great video! How many would you recommend for a 40 breeder? Thanks!
