You are NOT wrong. This whole show his groove is immaculate. He’s got such a great touch too. Everything is so CLEAN and controlled. Just an absolute monster... and I didn’t even mean to do that
I played with Bean for a while at The 544 in the 90's....great drummer and what really is weird I gave Big D guitar lessons for a while and I thought why did he want lessons from me because he could play like George Benson......He told me he wanted to learn what I was doing. Great band is a mild understatement
After repeated hearings, this is still one of my favorite jams, and so far I've heard three people praise this highly although they don't normally listen to similar kinds of music. I love how they move between blues, funk and latino. And give the drummer a Nobel Prize
Wow...that was fun, huh? It's blatantly apparent that these fellas know what their doing musically. It's quite a pleasure to listen to. It's exciting when you find your musical voice and place in the game...like these guys have. Great stuff here...
They look like they were truly having FUN, which makes it all the better. That must have been one helluva great night at The Maple Leaf. Love that place!
I used to live stumbling distance from The Maple Leaf for many years. If I only had a nickel for every beer I drank there, I could buy... well, you know.
+Phili Chili a men my brother I wish I could fid some guys that play half as good here in mobile. all acustic guitar players I call it jengul jagul music. lol
Mark,I live in New Orleans, and I walk every day in the French Quarter ....Living in the funky beat in the air. We welcome you ,come to "The Big Easy"..
It took about fifty viewings before I noticed the freaking Sazerac holder attachment on the center mic stand at 9:45! NOLA through and through, so cool!
+blueslove61 Check out Rayford Griffin for m-grip players....(Jean Luc Ponty) he leads w/ left hand, has ride on left w/ hats leaving right hand to venture freely around the rest of his kit.
foobargorch I don't know a whole awful lot about drummers, but one of my favorite recordings for drummers is Albert King and Stevie Ray "Don't Lie To Me".Whoever that drummer is... he's bad ass. Also check out Dylan Elise on youtube.
+blueslove61 Is this the same JellyBean that played with "Southern Cookin'" back in the '80s at the old 544 club at Bourbon and Toulouse? Sure looks like him!
yes Jon say's Junkers blues. Jon knows this stuff, check out his video, he is amazing. this song gets better every time these guys play it and I've heard it a million times.
At 9.51 you can see that the G above the middle C on the keyboard is wonky (to use a technical term),. Not that you'd notice from the playing, which is superb.
So many nights at the Bluebird...no the one in Indiana...and the Slippery Noodle...still in Indiana....with Yank Rachell. Et.Al. Great vIbe. Bring the Gumbo home.
Mike Bruns did PGF break up if so I hope jeffrey can work with AMG more I worked on magazine street for two years and I never got to go to that Monday show I had to drive back to Mobile every night.
Jon says in the beginning that it is based on some old blues. I'm not sure I understand exactly the name (since I'm not a native English speaker). Is it "junker's blues"? Could anyone refer me to a youtube link with a recording of it?
frenchef7 Check out Champion Jack Dupree's Junker's Blues on the album Blues From The Gutter. That is a version of the Junker's Blues, a tune which became "Blueberry Hill", "The Fat Man", and was infused with a latin groove to create Professor Longhair's Tipitina. The Junker's Blues is the first recorded version of this line of songs.
Champion Jack Dupree also did a song called the Junkers Blues All these songs, Blueberry Hill included, have the same harmony. It isn't necessarily to do with the left hand, despite the left hand often denoting the harmony
I will never buy a product from any vendor who interrupts my UA-cam video of John Cleary with an unsolicited ad.
No doubt
You have my attitude. What's wrong with you? Lol!
A-men brother!!
100%
Cleary has had Lots of Fine Drummers But NOBODY Grooves with Time Like the Great Jellybean!!
If this doesnt move you, youre unmovable
You are NOT wrong. This whole show his groove is immaculate. He’s got such a great touch too. Everything is so CLEAN and controlled. Just an absolute monster... and I didn’t even mean to do that
Jellybean, Nigel, Big D, Jon, all monster players. I wish i could see them live.
Jellybean is still playing in New Orleans with the Danny Alexander Band.
I played with Bean for a while at The 544 in the 90's....great drummer and what really is weird I gave Big D guitar lessons for a while and I thought why did he want lessons from me because he could play like George Benson......He told me he wanted to learn what I was doing. Great band is a mild understatement
Quite possibly the most musical drummer I’ve ever heard.
After repeated hearings, this is still one of my favorite jams, and so far I've heard three people praise this highly although they don't normally listen to similar kinds of music. I love how they move between blues, funk and latino. And give the drummer a Nobel Prize
here here!
Jelly Bean is the drummer but‼️ they are all 💯 🎶‼️
He has a great name and he's a real nice dude. Jeffery "Jellybean" Alexander.
JELLYBEAN seasoned this session like a true master!! What a magical moment captured here.
The guy on guitar is great. His facial expression NEVER changes. It says "hmmm, know what? These cats are alright"
Derwin Big D Perkins
These guys are simply UNBELIEVABLE!!! OMG!!!
I MUST get to New Orleans to see these guys in real life. This is a phenomenal performance!!
Good Lord. Such a jam. Great nights at Maple Leaf.
Wow...that was fun, huh? It's blatantly apparent that these fellas know what their doing musically. It's quite a pleasure to listen to. It's exciting when you find your musical voice and place in the game...like these guys have. Great stuff here...
Outstanding! Simply the best version of this particular song I've ever seen and heard!
This band is as good as it gets. All the goodness distilled with all the grease and funk left in and all the slop taken out.
I'm in total awe of this performance, searched for a thousand words to decribe it but nine hundred and ninety nine of them just weren't "perfect"...
Listening to this over and over. I’m either smiling or making the stank-face ‘cause it’s so funky! Every member of this band is on point!
This music can't help but make you smile.
Look at the band! They all diggin' it!
Not bad for a boy from Cranbrook, Kent, England!
Well Done bought my first amp from cranbrook
He's absorbed New Awlins. He's been around long enough. And damn, he can play. He and Billy Payne.
This is an absolutely superb jam. I love the way it shifts into an Afro-Carib rhythm after an extended Junker's boogie-woogie.
Joy!!!!!!! Thank you Gentlemen.
Surely the best thing on the internet
They look like they were truly having FUN, which makes it all the better. That must have been one helluva great night at The Maple Leaf. Love that place!
I used to live stumbling distance from The Maple Leaf for many years.
If I only had a nickel for every beer I drank there, I could buy... well, you know.
un live bouillant ,chant vibrant en évidence et des chansons gorgées de soul ,mélodies prodigieuses, musicalement de la New Orléans, sublime
Still can't believe I got to see these guys live Fat Tuesday night in LA a few months back. Damn what a show!!

Awesome jam. Jon's mate Paddy Milner (jon played on his latest album) does a great solo version of Tipitina too!
This is Happy music!
The ads on this are ridiculous. You dishonor Jon, and more importantly, Fess!
Well, if he ever needs a bassist, I'd be happy to stand in...

What about Big D? Some news? Wish the best for you, Derwin.
Jon says in the beginning that it is based on some old blues. I'm not sure I understand exactly the name (since I'm not a native English speaker). Is it "junker's blues"? Could anyone refer me to a youtube link with a recording of it?
Blue Berry Hill is a Junkers Blues. it's all in the left hand
frenchef7 Check out Champion Jack Dupree's Junker's Blues on the album Blues From The Gutter. frenchef7 Also sometimes called “Junko Partner”.
