Thank god Iggy didn't stop making records, Post Pop Depression was an outstanding album and just when i thought there was nothing better he releases this other masterpiece, Iggy Pop is a cultural heritage for humanity til the eternity, bend the knee to the legend.
I agree, and then he recently released Every Loser, which is ALSO amazing! I had thought Post Pop Depression was the final word, but I’m so happy to have been so wrong!
That New Values/Iggy Pop album has been my favorite for absolutely years now. For decades now. I just broke it out the other day,and Endless Sea still gives me goosebumps.
What strikes me about Jim is that he is just a really nice man. He shows so much care and concern for the average guy that attends his interviews. You see that in his reactions to his fans here. A real gentleman in the old fashioned way.
And his music is still improving. I wish he would have done this work 20 years ago, but he did write the lyrics to one of my very favorite Bowie songs: Tumble and Twirl.
When I started to follow Ig in late 1975, he was a homeless junkie with no band, friends or a record contract. Apart from Bowie, nobody wanted to invest in him. Forty-four years later, he is a grand elder statesman who has influenced countless generations of groups. He still has the best hairstyle in rock. Good luck to him, he has nothing left to prove.
Stooge brother Scottt, check out Ig's radio show, it is brilliant. Not sure whether you can get Radio 6 In the States, but it is worth listening to. Also, watch the brilliant 2005 South Bank Show with Mervyn Bragg, which he interviews The Stooges on their epic comeback tour. Ron and Scott were class acts. RIP

Crazy how I got really emotional with that first performance, of "Loves Missing". I had to hold back tears, man, and to be honest I can't remember the last time something like this happened, I guess this says a lot about Iggy.

i met Iggy once and showed him a pencil-drawing i did of him....which he just stared silently at for the longest time before signing it.....it was as if he saw something in the mirror he'd never quite seen before....he signed it invited me and my wife in to party with him and his band and a beautiful woman asked us to excuse the IG as he was was ready for his shower. his legendatry dick-ass bass-player said we weren't invited to the party and kicked us out....that was probably 1979. someone stole that drawing before my divorce....but for a mad genius Iggy was a very decent guy.....and for many of us he was THE voice that many of wish we had. i'm glad he's still with us.....way to go homey.

And on "People Places Parties," Iggy is re-working the Sleaford Mods, who were re-working the Sex Pistols, who were re-working the Modern Lovers, who were re-working the Stooges (and the VU). This is the band Iggy had with him in March, 2023 at the Salt Shed in Chicago. It is by far the best and hardest hitting band he's ever had. This is a band of real payers, starting with the bassist and drummer, solid as a Rock. The guitarists are excellent also. The horn players true pros who sing background also. Punk Rock played by real musicians is even more powerful. Of course, the Stooges were incredible, as well.

Iggy is one of the real ones and always has been. I love him and I love his love for the common people, no more exemplified by how often he invites the crowds he performs in front of on stage or dives into them. He understands art as shared experience, a moment, like he famously talked about in that 80s(?) interview you can see on here, citing the Ancient Greeks and their distinction of Apollonian and Dionysian art. Iggy is a master of Dionysian art.

John & Sheila's son (Tom Ravenscroft) is also a DJ on BBC 6 Music so the connections are there . . . J.P. was responsible for so much and championing so many people - we all owe him a great debt of gratitude - I mean, he was the man who turned me on to Beefheart & The Magic Band, for starters . . . !

Beefheart, Joy Division, Misty In Roots, Suicide, Ivor Cutler.....the list is endless. JP remains a class act, fifteen years after his untimely death. I suspect he would nod in approval at the Iggy Confidential show. That's the best tribute of all.

London, late 1981. He was very gracious. As for his taste in music, it was second to
none. Beefheart, Joy Division, Misty In Roots, Suicide, Ivor Cutler.....the list is endless.
JP remains a class act, fifteen years after his untimely death. I suspect he would nod in
approval at the Iggy Confidential show. That's the best tribute of all.
