Eating Kosher Foods and Keeping Shabbat | How We Transitioned

- Опубліковано 11 гру 2022
- Let's talk about our transition to eating kosher foods and keeping shabbat. Going from eating non kosher foods to eating kosher foods wasn't a difficult process. Learning kosher laws and laws of Shabbat has been the biggest learning curve. We are taking it one day at a time and learning to enjoy every step on the way.
Thank you guys so much for watching. We would love to hear about how you've made these transitions easier.
Love you guys!

If you two aren’t careful you just might bring Moshiach! Look how much knowledge and inspiration you’re giving to both frum yidden and unaffiliated Jews. You’re amazing! ❤ BTW, your erev Shabbos sounds like everyone else’s. We all need to work on keeping it calm and joyous.
Wow! Thank you for those kind words❤ we really appreciate that and we are learning it’s just part of Shabbos prep 😂🙏🏽
@rebeccasegal8078:
What a sweet, sweet comment!!!! They certainly ARE sparkling examples of godly Jews , aren't they?!!
Shabbat Shalom to you both. I have walked this life for most of my life. I love to see more of our people embracing Torah. Beautiful!
Shavua Tov! Yes it’s the only way!!!❤️😊
I've been watching your videos, and as a religious Jew I find your experiences and your journey, as you describe it, just fascinating! It also gives me an insight into the transitioning of converts as yourselves. I am a proud Jew, and having wonderful people like you join us makes our Nation greater. Wishing you all the best, and G-d's help in all your endeavors.
Wow thank you David for those kind words BH!!! We just want to be a light to the world 🙏🏽
I applaud you all for taking this journey with your children... I mean I cannot even imagine. Having to explain muktzah, how to prepare salads differently, not separating the bad from the good while eating, all of the laws around what constitutes writing... Seems like so much to retain for yourself and explain to children.
When I started keeping kosher I lived with my parents who didn’t keep kosher so I bought my own pots and pans to make vegetarian meals. I didn’t eat meat in the house because the meat was not kosher. The only time I ate meat was at the homes of people in my Shul on Shabbat and Yom Tov! Shabbat was hard too because my parents watched television on Shabbat so I spent a lot of time in other peoples homes. I now live in a place where I can keep Shabbat and kosher! You guys are really inspiring. Good luck on your journey to Judaism!
Thank you so much
I like the fashions your wife wears!
Love how you say elevate the food. We Jews are all about elevating our lives. Living in the here and now and refining it for a higher purpose. Doing it with this connection makes life so meaningful and beautiful. I love how you guys plugged in so on point. May your journey continue to be blissful and bless full !
Yes it’s so beautiful how everything we do is elevated! Thank you for your kind words 🙏🏽😊
You two are going to do powerful, incredible things for our nation and the world. We love you!!
BH! Thank Gd
Absolutely!! This is my beautiful Family and I'm so proud of them!
The world doesn’t understand the beauty of Shabbat it’s definitely a gift
If only they could!! Wow, what a gift 🎁
It’s even more of a gift after He died on the cross. Go type the verses of Matthew 27:46 into Microsoft translator isiXhosa language and see what it really means. Used to say same thing in google until algorithm scrubbed it. Jesus asking God why he’s forsaken makes absolutely no sense but we refuse to believe people tampered with the Bible yet you got book of jasher mentioned twice in Joshua and 1 Samuel yet nowhere to be found other than in Ethiopian Bible. When God said that He’s gonna severely punish those who add or remove to the book, He meant that. Here on earth, and then again in hell bc those Gentiles who were allowed authority over the book and His people “painted the likeness of their image.” 1 Maccabees 3:48. God knew they would do this but still needed to make it clear not to so whoever La bold enough to do it won’t complain when they receive eternal damnation as that is the Book of Life. Even as they did that, life is truth and His truth can’t be hidden forever.
This is great. I should save these videos for Friday afternoons to give me a boost going into my own Shabbos. Sharing this one with my wife.
It's wonderful to bump into a familiar face here in cyberspace. Isn't that so, Dr Abramson?
Wow thank you! That means a lot BH!! 🙏🏽
The erev Shabbat prep cracks me up! Welcome to the observant Jewish experience! LOL!
Yes it really fosters character development and time management and planning skills!
Lots of love!
both of your vibes are so chill and authentic its great
Lol! I was vegetarian 11 years, and I still remember that FEELING I got from that first taste of chicken soup! I learned something interesting… many people go vegan or vegetarian before becoming Jewish or becoming frum… it’s like the neshamah’s way of not letting the body eat the blood that is in nonkosher meat, and thereby it opens up more spiritual channels that you wouldn’t receive if you ate the blood. Your neshamah comes out physically as being vegan, but really it’s a very holy, spiritual way of cleansing the neshamah. (If that makes sense) Many brachos to you and your beautiful family! 🥰
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 sheesh!!!! That is powerful. We’ve never heard it this way before. WOW! Thank you for this. So much chizuk!🙏🏾
That's so interesting. I'd never heard that. Thanks for sharing it!
@@sashagamino2268 😊
Wow I never heard this, thanks for sharing now it make sense.
@Jewisheducationathome: That is a very clear way of explaining why we should eat kosher food. Very practical and
understandable. I'm on the conversion path and believe me, where I live (Spain) , there is so much pork and even the holiday bakery sweets (mancados) are made with pork fat! It is the most common meat served here. Seafood is highly prized, too. Being a vegetarian is probably the safest bet here.
Yes, I vote yes for a Shabbat prep video. And the business (as in busy) and chaos - like with the kids running around- would be a fun addition to see. Pre Shabbos is always busy for me too but it’s a really special and beautiful kind of busy and chaotic, as I think you'd said in the video.
I'd also love to see a video on what you've learned as far as the Halacha for Shabbat - if you’d be interested in doing a video like that. I love that, as Jews, we're constantly learning and it's an ongoing thing .
Thanks for another wonderful video.
Yes those video will be in the works Hashem willing! You gotta love the chaos though lol 😂
כל הכבוד לכם, כמה כח יש לכם ואתם מעניקים לנו 3>
Again, I relate so well, the anger the chaos, the rush(not hurry) towards Shabbas but also not knowing whether you doing everything is right. I cannot wait for Shabbat, its like I want to stay there all the time, so beautiful.
Thank you for this beautiful video. Your deep love and appreciation for Yiddishkeit comes shining through and it literally brings tears to my eyes. May HaShem bless you for sharing your joy! ❤️
Thank you so much
You guys are awesome. Thank you for opening up and offering us a look into your lives. It's apparent that you are both spiritually mature and grounded, and as seekers of truth, have finally found "EMES"
Klal Yisrael is privileged to have converts such as you not only join us, but make us stronger! Beautiful
Love you my brother. Your words hit deep!
@@houseoflev too bad you guys are so far away in California... if you're ever in N Miami Beach you have a standing invitation for a Shabbos meal! We would be honored.
@@houseoflev remember, me and my wife, and our 2 boys converted 12 yrs ago so we have a connection that links us forever.

Mi k'amcha Yisrael!
Loved hearing about your community. It's is so precious that you do kiddush in your shul and go to each other houses. It is so important mentally and emotionally to have these times of disconnect the internet and the news, and physically being surrounded by people, and eating great food.
And the more you worked for it, the more you feel satisfied after. So this craziness in Friday it is also healthy.
This feeling of shabbat when the house is on crazy mode on Friday its one of my best memories from my childhood.
Thank you 🙏🏽 yes it’s something we will never take for granted! I love you said it was one of your memorable moments growing up ❤🙏🏽
I give you two so much credit. I’ve been Jewish all my life, but I don’t think I could follow an Orthodox lifestyle. By the way, I’ve never made a challah.
It’s incredible I see the calm in both your eyes,it’s the emunah and the confidence in the knowledge That you are following this beautiful path you have taken. Thank you for sharing this with us
It’s our pleasure. We’re happy to share. Thx for watching
Wow, this is the second video that I see of you, and all of a sudden, I hear you say that you can't keep the shabbos fully since you're not Jewish yet. and that was a surprise for me since you guys look so Jewish, from the way you talk to the light in your face. I love the way you explain everything and you are so come and at peace with your choices. I hope the conversion process will be fast for you and you will find yourself fulfilling your destiny and living your truest self.
Thank you so much!!! Yes when you haven’t completed a conversion you technically don’t keep the sabbath 100% you only break small things like “turning on a light” something small!:) thank you for watching and supporting our channel!😊❤️
14:09 "More than israel kept the shabbat, the shabbat kept israel"
12:55 It's amazing to hear that keeping the Shabbat and more generally the halachot is leading you to a way of life that is universally positive! You two are a lovely couple
Thank you so much!
Our journey was simular with Kosher eating I had not had Beef in over 20 years. I stopped eating beef because of the way it made us feel. We restricted ourselves to fish and chicken and turkey. Kosher is more expensive but worth the sacrifice. Shabbat is wonderful and making challah is relaxing and a special anointing. We converted and had mitzvah and remarried under the choopah, right before Pesach on April 2, 2023. Then I catered our Pesach Seder for 110 people from different parts of the country. We had a glorious time.
Shabbat is a time of closeness to Hashem and the mispacah of our shul. What a wonderful time. Blessings always and Shavuah Tov Achoti!
Wow wow! Thank you for sharing. Mazal Tov. What an amazing experience. We can’t wait to get married under the chupah!!!

Shalom Beautiful Couple, as a teenager I knew living in the Jewish neighborhood, i was drawn to the Culture not knowing it was my Culture all the time.
Fully enjoyed the vegan to kosher chicken story!!!!!!! Made me smile, sure hope no one came after you for that one! Can relate - was strictly vegan for 5 years too (veggie since mid teenage years), then a few months into my journey to discovering Judaism I transitioned back to vegetarian until the first Pesach Seder - and oh my, was the chicken delicious!!!!!!!!! !!!!! ! ! !
Thank You so so much for sharing Your journey! All the blessing's for Your next meeting with Beis Din!!!!!🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
I just came across this video, you are so amazing, and inspiring, your passion for Yiddishkeit is so infectious, I would love to hear your story

Hey thanks a lot Gerald. We appreciate you stopping by!! Hope you enjoy the rest of the Content🙏🏾🙏🏾
When you said you were ready to make a change, that’s exactly what I thought. You were just ready. Sounds like that chicken was worth the change.
🌸❤️🌸
Hahaha yes definitely worth it!😂
I find a profound similarity between both topics in your video, between the easy transition of being vegan to eating kosher and the transition of being used to working on weekends to putting your phone away and bringing the Shabbat into your lives. And yes there are laws and rules but I’m talking about that THING that feeling that cannot be explained by words it can only be felt.
Thank you for being genuine with your feelings and sharing it here. It’s a magnet. 🙏❤️
Couldn’t have said it better achi! Thank you for your love and support!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Bless you and your family. It must of been tough but also i feel the changes made you feel better in some way

You guys are an inspiration. Welcome from NJ😊
Thank you. Happy to share
my heart is beaming with joy, i am almost envious of ur emotional connection.
That is such a poignant comment! They say that the last Rebbe of Lubavitch used to say to Jews who were non-observant (and presumably to the converting) that he was jealous of them! He had been born into the observance and love, but they had so much almost overwhelming excitement and joy awaiting them !
Awww thank you 🙏🏽❤️
This is beautiful. i love how much intention you both put into your practice and lead through action. Your wonderful children due to your efforts will have such a wonderful understanding of their faith. Hopefully if at any point they encounter obstacles, they will think if our parents could make it through the challenges of becoming orthodox jews, then we got this.
Wow! So beautifully said!!! Thank you
You're a beautiful and loving couple!! Learning has become your journey to a better place!!
Thank you Marsha. We appreciate you
Wow wow wow!! I learned a tremendous amount from you!! Thank you for helping us jews appreciate what we have! Thank you!!
Wow thank you for those kind words!!!❤️🙏🏽
Two things.
1) just out of curiosity, besides UA-cam what do you do for a living? I do understand if you won't answer that question.
2) I have been an Orthodox Jew my entire life, my father was an Orthodox Rabbi, and I still study how to keep kosher and shabbat and holidays.
You are incredible
What a kiddush Hashem you are doing!
Good Luck on your journey!
Thank you!!! We appreciate that!😊❤️
I just love you guys channel! 💛 Although I am not apart of orthodox Judaism, I would be closer in beliefs to a Messianic Jew & I love to have a weekly sabbath and spend that unplugged quality time with loved ones. It’s my favorite time of the week 😊
Thank you so much!🙏🏽
My good family friend is Orthodox, and Kosher Vegan, it's intense lol but he loves it! His wife and kids are vegetarian.
Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Will do
We also spent a few years as whole food plant based vegans before transitioning to practicing keeping Kosher. I learned a lot about baking substitutes for making tasty pareve baked goods. It really helped when we started adding meat on Shabbat and still wanted to have cakes and others desserts.

I just discovered your channel and sharing it with my wife. They say in the Torah that the souls of converts were already present at Mt Sinai and had for purpose to find themselves back to the Tribe. It looks like you guys are accomplishing your divine mission. Beautiful and very insightful channel. Keep it going. I wonder what Shul do you go to in LA? I understand if you don't want to share this publicly. I grew up Sephardic and have frequented most Sephardic as well as Chabads in LA and the valley.

Powerful words. When we heard this for the first time it blew our minds!
Thank you
I, too, have been touched by this delightful couple, a palpable Jewish soul emerging so beautifully every time I tune into their UA-cam pieces. I had a sense of deja vu as I watched and listened to the couple's profound description of Shabbos and its particularity. Then it suddenly dawned on me: the late Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks of Blessed Memory saw Shabbos in much the same way and never missed an opportunity to remind us of the divine gift that is Shabbos.
No need to apologize for your food choices. ❤
We seperate all the meat and chicken from all kind of food that is made of cow's milk like cheese and butter so on one side of the kitchen we keep fleishig it means meat stuff and on the other side is milchig that means dairy
You both are very fortunately available that is great. I am from a Jewish wilderness very overly overwhelmed by God. I alone am looking for Kiddush after Shabbat service on a regular.
Thank you and Gd bless you brother
Shabbat is that sweet reprieve from the mundane. ❤
Yes, Shabbat is very hard. It was always hard for me because my family are Russian modern Jew. But when I went to yeshiva it was not as hard.
B"H for this excellent video on the most important topics. you express your respect for Torah and love of and appreciation of judaism comes across
clearly. this you instill in your children. keeping shabbat is joyous. a simcha. doing a commandment with joy- simcha is a mitzvah. shabbat preparation
can certainly be chaotic. highly recommended is " sonya's prep" channel. each orthodox channel is unique and not a competition with the others. being
able to share for the good of all is what we human- beings all need. your sharing of your food preferences journey is valuable. being able to enjoy
raw helps in keeping kosher when there are absolutely no kosher foods available. but raw fruit and some vegetables that can be eaten raw can be
gotten anywhere and paper goods and plastic cutlery. there are so many options these days for eating prohibited favorites. a cheese burger of
kosher plant- chopped meat with real cheese or a burger of kosher beef with vegan kosher vegan cheese. children can be explained that the Torah prohibits animal meat ( beef, poultry) and dairy however plant " meat" is plant not animal. what about shellfish that the Torah prohibits? kosher
surimi is a great substitute. frozen OU imitation krab, skrimp, labstar, skallops . note: it must have a kosher authorization hechchar as the non- authorized imitation ingredients contain the liquid from the prohibited items. furthermore the kosher non- shell fish can be eaten raw after being thawed. great for traveling with an ice pack. kosher sauce in jars easily available for purchase. every cuisine can be made with kosher substitutes.
children and adults can be taught that what appears to the eye is not a fact. a " jewish" pastrami deli sandwich made with tref ( non- kosher meat) is not
kosher. however a " jewish" pastrami sandwich made with kosher pastrami is kosher. danielle your 6- braided challah sounds scrumptious. your challah prayers and dedication is such a beautiful house of lev tradition. thank you for sharing that. looking forward to videos showing all. shabbat shalom.
Love you guys! Wish I can meet you,!
I appreciate what you said about not going into Shabbat with anger. Hashem did in fact make Shabbat for man and not man for Shabbat and if we are so focused on man made traditions versus Biblical mandates, it can become a labor. I actually practice Biblical Judaism and not Rabbinical Judaism. Not that I throw out the baby with the bath water, so to speak, because there is much to be learned in Rabbinical teachings. But for me personally I follow scripture first and then consider if the Talmud teaching is going to bring clarity or burden to whatever area of my life I'm dealing with.
I love love love the way you dressed. Your style is gorgeous. Both of you
Thank you so much!! I love that being tznius can be so beautiful and fashionable too🙏🏽❤️
Basar V'dagim! (Meat and Fish) Fleish and Kartoflen! (Meat and potatoes) It's the Shabbos spice
lol so true I was vegan for few years. now I have vegan days, vegetarian and only eat meat & fish on shabbos and holidays. I was scared to eat it too and did get sick. But it got better little by little. I wanted to part take in elevating the sparks of the souls of those animals.
Yessssss! When we heard that our minds were blown🤯🤯🤯

1% of my life…
Living in Hawthorne before, deep into south central on budlong x 107th, mid-city (mid-city Washington x west Blvd where I started keeping Shabbat over night) because of my life after death experience and now north Hollywood
Thanks, My life after death experience in which I visited a place called Kaf HaKala if I’m pronouncing it right, where I was being sent from one side of the earth to the other side of the earth like ping pong 🏓 but not in a pleasant way! I was being tortured nonstop with fire and being ripped to pieces and all this for 10 minutes approx felt like 1000s of years, cannot put into words as no such thing as time don’t exist above, that my heart stopped and also witnessed GAN EDEN after and ever since then I started keeping Shabbat over night, even walking from bad part of LA to 5 miles nearest Shul to keep Shabbat Holy! No excuses my friends!
For the ones who say, you were born religious! FYI I was born In the Iran and Iraq 8 year war bombed nonstop daily life flashing before your eyes and my father passed away about 2 years ago in Tehran Iran in which I have not seen my father for 30 years marking it 32 years and found my mother after 20 + years or so and my family separated around 20 years old to a point you wanted to cut yourself daily! My story is a story of David HaMelech and HaShem and EMUNAH got me through all of it and I cheated death in LA easily over 200 x and many times in south central where I used to live, survived major drive-by-shooting with over 300 bullets flying in which I was walking toward the bullets because I didn’t value life anymore among stabbings and more but not because I was tough…because of only HaShem BH” now live by Shul and keep Shabbat fully!
Wow massive story! You were taken care of during your trying time.

Great job guys. Proud of you.
With kids like Justin I don’t think it would be chaotic!

G-d bless you both. You make us proud.
Thank you very much
I love your vibe. I'm also vegan or maybe plant-based is a better label; I find it much easier to keep kosher that way, although it can make things a little tricky if someone invites you over for a meal! I do have one question: why the black hat? Are you converting into a chasidic or charedi community? Do you just like hats? I haven't seen gerim adopt the "chasidishe uniform" before finishing conversion before.

There is a commentary by Rashi which says on the seventh day Hashem created rest. Why? To give us one free day to study Torah. The other six days we are concerned with making a living, and many do not have time to adequately study. So we have Shabbos were we do not have to concern ourselves with making a living.

In one of my first visits I went south, to Eilat and then Sharm El Sheikh (which is now Egypt - but at the time was still in Israel). The whole country is incredible!
I used to have friends and family there but don't any more so going will be more difficult now because of the huge expense. But I'm still planning to go if it’s at all possible. My heart yearns for Eretz Yisrael!
Learning hilchot shabbat is important, and you will get it down pat eventually! But! Everyone makes mistakes here and there. It's a process, especially with kids. Just keep going!
How do I get into this community? I was raised by a Christian and an atheist, they have taught me next to nothing and were barely in my life. I’m a 24 year old female finally teaching myself how to take care of myself and I’ve transitioned my diet to trying to eat as clean as possible but now I want to get more into being Kosher. But I don’t know anyone Jewish and I have no support. I’m also getting more spiritual along with the process. But I’m doing it all on my own and I’m scared I’m not doing it right. How do I find people in the Kosher community and will they even accept me? Or am I too far damaged from 20+ years of eating bad food?
I was hoping that there was a recipe for that orange chicken in the description. Too bad.
