- Charger 3.1 damper and a host of upgrades make the new 2025 Rockshox Zeb a real compelling upgrade.
Bike: Crestline RS180
ETHICS, DISCLAIMER and TRANSPARENCY: Rockshox hired me to test the fork, review it and to produce a video for on my UA-cam channel, and is such labelled as a paid partnership on UA-cam. Rockshox have had no direct input on this content or any editorial or narrative control over the video. Rockshox do not see the video before it goes live. This paid partnership with Rockshox has allowed me time to test the fork and shock and also film and edit working with an independent film crew to help capture the shots and produce the video content.
Great video, Rob! Some of those shots you got are gosh dang beautiful 👌

Thanks Mike, hope you're well!
I was also impressed with the visuals of this review. Way to go, guys! Great review.
Rock Shox would like to say thank you to all of the Charger 3.0 beta testers, and a huge Welcome!! to all of the new 3.1 beta testers.
Haha yep, right on point, us mugs suffered an inadequate fork for what?
the upgrade kit should be free for all charger 3 users
Looks like a good update, refining the new damper tech
Best quality bike content on YT! Fork looks supple!
Absolutely love mine! Even with my fairly average ability it’s a noticeable difference…for the better👍🏾
Red = nice and good. 😊 Nice job Rob.
Great insight.. Will be getting the 3.1 upgrade for my Lyrik v.soon. Hopefully there will be more about the rear air shock to follow.. 🤞🙂👍
I’m on the 2023 Ultimate riding a 2022 altitude PP. All the bells and whistles custom build. That fork is by far the most noticeable piece of gear on the bike. Super tight and predictable at the top and really confident and stiff deep in the travel. Love it.
Thanks Rob. The compression explanation was spot on.
Those cost bloody fortune nowdays! I've got Zeb Ultimate MY 2022 2.1 charger and RC2T coil shock with german coil with exact 400lbs compared to RS coil and bike is behaving fenomenal.
you can upgrade the old zeb wth the Charger 3 tbh... not the lyrik and Pike sadly
Crestline must be very happy abut this rockshox review, I can't help saying.
I've always run the forks at fully open to make them seem less harsh. I hope this technology can spread to the cheaper forks over time.
Great video Rob. I'm never the biggest fan of red in general, but on the rock shox it reminds me of back in the day with the Judy diablos and I think they just sing i would defo do in red when it comes to those..
I gave the charger 3 damper and I’m very pleased. Just seems like it’s such small upgrades it’s not worth to get it until a full service is needed. But the vivid dies intrigue me a bit. Have bothered the coil and air super deluxe ultimate shocks and switch them up pending where and what I’m riding
Phenomenal job.
Re:coil...IMO this is stroke an rider weight dependent..on a 55mm stroke at 215lbs, on a ebike youre looking at a 650lb coil which kind of beats me up in the mid stroke. For this application I love my Vivid air with no volume spacers and custom damper tune!
Hi Rob! Thanks for this video. What Must be done to change the charger 3.0 in 3.1 ? Where can I find the information ? Thx !
I've got a Zeb 2023 model and so far, I have been finding it pretty difficult to get it feeling right, I must say. Structurally it's brilliant, it's extremely well built, but sensitively wise, it's not the best.
Mountain bike industry turning into Apple
It's pretty crap isn't it
yeah yearly update
Do you buy a new iPhone every generation?
I don’t …
My rockshocks are still amazing from 2020. So what if they release updates frequently.
Also I love the backwards compatibility. When my damper fails I can just put the latest one in for $250 instead of $950 for a new fork …
@@John-shreds Grip 2 come out 6 years ago and is still better than most of the competition, only just now has an update that will last possibly another 6 years and then some, the bike industry needs to chill with the marketing behind newer is better when in reality it’s whatever you have is better than nothing.
MTB suspension was perfected 10 years ago in my opinion, it's hard to improve on that. Same with the 10 year old iPhone 6, it was a perfect product that still holds up today apart from the camera. Also Apple recently updated their phone design to resemble the old iPhone 5!
Great vid rob awesome shots and location!! Where is it you’re riding by the way? And if you have a Zeb ultimate from day two years ago can you update the internals to this new spec design?? Be cool if you could..
My Öhlins 38 is noticeably smoother than my Zeb 3.0 in the starting travel, I wonder if the 3.1 made it feel better similar?
I wonder if they have sorted the CSU issue out
Impressive 😊 …..Now more belt drive bike reviews please
Coming soon!
Looks like 2024 Crestline! How does it compare to Fox 38 Factory?
Not sure why it needs to be silent. I like my grip2 sound, best sound in the world.
Showing how "plush" this fork is with the sag o-ring in bottom-out position is kinda funny.
Throw a Smashpot in that fork and you will be really amazed!
Nice review, think you’ve tried both so what’s your choice ohlins 38’s or new zebs?
I'd take these Zeb over the Ohlins.
@@RobRidesEMTBcan you put the new 3.1 in the Domain as well? It’s the same as a Zeb chassis wise apparently
You know its disappointing to see this as I have struggled with the Zeb Ultimate to this point, I even warrantied my forks which were replaced by RS but still they were stiff off the top and harsh without feeling when adequate support was dialled, always either too soft or too hard, no happy medium, despite my also even trying a Luftcappe… I think my money now will go back towards Fox as I’ve been so very disappointed with these Zebs… Sad as my Lyric Ultimates were by far and away the best forks I’d ever used…. Was hoping the Zeb would improve upon them on both my Levo SL and Kenevo SL.. Not so, very disappointed Rockshox… Why has it taken nearly 3 years to get to this point unless it’s just simple money gouging for upgrades.
How do u compare it to the fox 38 etuned?
So frustrating.. 3.1 released with new bushing tolerances. Rockshox ignored all customer complaints for bushing tolerance issues causing excessive friction and harshness. "The bushes are to tolerance"... "but we've now changed the tolerance for the new product".
Rip. At least they have backwards compatibility with older forks for new airprings and dampers.
Do you Prefer the new zebs to the new 38s?
I’ve just ordered a pair of red zebs for my custom Santa Cruz nomad build from TFtuned, looking forward to smashing the bike parks soon
I'd take either for sure, Rockshox really stepped up the low speed damping performance on these, they are also RRP a fair bit cheaper than Fox in the UK. The 38 X2 fork is very good. Maybe slightly firmer in the first 10-20mm of travel, these Zebs are lovely and smooth.
@@RobRidesEMTB great! I missed out on the gold 38s so got in fast with these red zebs 😁
Rob any chance getting a upside down fork to review Intend or Push??
i have an intend flash on the way :-)
Any recommendation for setup? Around 170 lbs.
maybe next time, tear down the fork to show us what is different.
Really🤷🏾♂️
so @rob fox 38 with gripx2 or zeb 3.1?
That is one trick bike 🤟🏻
Crestline did a great job!
Where are these trails?
I want to know aswell😂
3 locations: Surrey Hills / Swinley Forest and Triscombe 👊
Typo on the top line buddy.
Where/ when can I get one?
Call N+1bikes, ask for Shaun.
will that charger 3.1 fit also on a domain fork?
Pike Lyric and Zeb
@@WaveyDavey9999 pike and lyric are not 38 mm i think you misunderstood me
There is a 3.1 damper kit available for those models only
A Domain can be upgraded to an Ultimate, so I am assuming that it can be upgraded to this also.
@@WaveyDavey9999 i know bro, that was not the question, i meant if the one for the zeb fits in the domain as it is the case with the charger 2.1
I have charger 3.0 damper. To upgrade to 3.1 i need to change only airshaft right?
Airspring? That is not your damper...
There's no sense in doing it
You could propably change the shim stack and ream your bushings to basically have this 2025 fork
But the ifp coil and ifp would be different still
@@hannes6114 yeah sorry thats why i meant. I want to know what the difference is between charger 3 and 3.1 is. I checked rockshox page and it they sell 3.1 airspring for 110 dollar. So what i understand. The difference between this fork and mine is that they upgraded the airspring right? So its possible to upgrade if wanted?
The fully open, is more fully open... Think about that for a while..
Sorry but it sounds somewhat too close (and enthusiastic) to the regular marketing slogans. On the other hand it is mentioned that there is a business relation with SRAM so all is good and no absolut independent review can be expected anyway.
Ah, hayes brakes! ;)
Damn, i just upgraded my 2021 zeb to the newest internals last february. :|
Charging down the ‘chimney’ …
Its the air spring that is the problem, its to progressive. With no tokens and 30% sag you have to huck to flat off 10 story building to bottom it out.
I find this with my lyrik the last 30% of travel is unused as it hits a brickwall
Who has the time to be messing around with settings and "dialing everything in"? If I was paid to ride? Sure. But 'till them....
So this is named charger 3.1 but its actually 2.1😂😂😂😂
The damper is still different, not a bladder system but one with an ifp
No?
Vinnie Views
Less harshness, more plush… here we go again, marketing BS
normal users wont notice any difference between the most expensive new stuff, or 15 yr old fox stuff
Define normal user...
I'm pretty sure most competent riders would notice a night and day difference. 🤔🤷♂️
Maybe 5 year gap. They had a super delux 5 years ago.
15 year is pretty crazy.
But good thought process. Don’t get caught up in latest 5% improvements. Just ride!
Upgrade when you need it.
