Really great to listen to someone who knows what they are talking about. One thing that I have heard about the APS canisters (same as SunSun). The o-rings don't tend to last long for some reason. I have seen some people wrap this area in PTFE tape as an insurance. I can imagine that it would be a nightmare if this failed and it pissed your tank all over your carpets or hard wood floors. Otherwise, a very decent filter for the price.
@@kunalravisingh4382 If it was 3 months, I'd be taking it back to the shop. Check that the lid is on properly and that the o-ring isn't crimping or incorrectly positioned.
I had both my sun sun do exactly that wifey was angry lol rightfully so I came home to a flood and over 100 gallons of water on our carpet in the basement it took forever to dry up and a lot of vacuuming and fans to clean shortly after the second one leaked even with Teflon tape over the gasket we thought it was best to remove the sun sun and added fx6 filters problem solved we paid a lot more for the fx6s but worth the peace of mind with anything you get what you pay for 🤙🤙🤙
I just started watching your Channel I wanted to say thank you for all the information you put out I just did my sunsun the same way and it's working very well👍👍
@ Chris G…I have an FX6 and like it a lot, but it is a beast to move around and/or remove from my tank stand (which is not really built for an FX6). And, I’m waaay overdue for maintenance on that due to shoulder surgery a year ago. So…I’m mentally working up to getting that out of the cabinet and cleaned up! Great to chat with you today at the livestream! 👊
I too hated having to remove it from under a tank. Now it’s elevated behind the 300 and very easy to work on. I suggest that you buy a long hose that will fit snuggly on to the bottom purge valve. Run the hose out the door, shut off the IN/OUT valves, unplug and detach the top hoses. Then open up that purge valve and let all the water drain. It is a lot easier to move after this. Be sure to close that purge valve and fill before plugging back in or you’ll have a mess (and a burned out pump!).
It was great to chat with you also !!! There is no doubt the fx6 is the best canister on the market . But unless you have a huge tank like Ben Ochart does .Personally I don't think it is needed for anything less than a 125 gallon. Remember that's just my opinion. Have a great week @CatSailor and You also @Ben Ochart 🙂🙂
Everything been says in this vídeo is backed up in this highly informative article. I pulled all my Seachem Matrix and replaced with 30 PPI sponge. My water has never been so crystal clear and healthy for my fish. Stop wasting money on expensive biomedia!
Hey Ben if the sun sun 704b comes with the built in uv why not utilize the benefits of the uv?? The benefits of the uv are countless I run 3 fx6 on my 220 and I use the turbo twist and my water is crystal clear and the uv gives the water that extra polish you talk about plus it helps to keep algae and ich and other water colom parasites at bay just curious
Look at the watts and gph of the twist. It’s a true UV. The 9watt bulb does hardly nothing to water rushing past it at such a high gph. Real true UVs like your twist are awesome.
Ben actually got me hooked on the sun sun filters I have a 704b and I've got a sun sun 3000 and a fx6 only problem I had with the sun sun 3000 was it started to leak at the top o-ring and it was not that old so I saw a video from a guy from Australia use some white plumbers Teflon tape I wrapped it around twice put top back on no leaks I'm still a sun sun fan can't beat the price or the performance..ty Ben
@@gregward8234 sun sun is a good product I like the fact it comes with a built in uv as well the only issue I have is I had 2 704b both leaked I have had fx6 3 of them for years I never had an issue with them but some people never have an issue with sun sun products and yes the price point is excellent
Ben? Are you still recommending Pinky Floss? Seems to me you liked it a lot at one time, but went away from it at some point later on. I still have some on hand, but if you’re recommending something better…I’m all ears??? 👂🏿👂🏿
You can purchase Poret foams from the same place you get your Biohome media from (assuming we all get their) here in the USA, Greatwave Engineering. They come in much more manageable sizes than what I've seen on your videos. Though I can't speak for any cost difference, I'm happy with the foams & media from Don Chamberlian. I have nothing against Swiss Tropicals as I am not familiar with them personally. Those foams just look like nightmare to cut :) Thanks for the videos.
What I’m using Corey are some left over pieces from my Swiss Tropicals sump sponge order. What they don’t use when cutting your custom sponges they send to you
@@BenOchart I seen those large block shaped foams in your recent videos & knew there was an easier way. After reviewing the Swiss page it appears to have the same foams as GWE & in more size options.
Any suggestions to stop a leaking sunsun304? Have tried change of Orings and Teflon tape but nothing worked. Used plenty of silicone grease on the Orings as well.
Is it a good idea to have a pair of canister filters in a tank with big capacity, like 200 or 250 gallons, one for chemical and mechanical media and the other one for the biological media?
I always prefer two filters for back-up. And I set them up the same. If one breaks down or is being cleaned the other one does a good job keeping things in good shape.
Just want to make sure.. The black part that connects to the top of canister and has the in/out hoses connected (with that open close flap). Is it suppose to be able to just pull out of the canister top with the flap in the open and closed position?

I've read in alot of places that filter sponge is a great home for beneficial bacteria. Nice work 😎
Makers of expensive bio media hate that emerging truth.

I’m with ya on the topic of Sunsun filters they are great filters never had any problems with them
Maybe a better title would have been, “SunSun Don’t Suck!”🤣🤣🤣

Awesome set up on the canister, That is exactly how my Pen Plax (Cascade) 1500 is set up, I love pond guru and his filter series.
I totally agree with the way you set it up. That is why I like the sunsun because the fx6 is bass akwards in my opinion..

Just what I had on hand. Truth is I prefer the egg crate style sponges but these from Swiss Tropicals last forever.

Hey guys what type of food grade o-ring lubricant should I use for my fx6 filter. Sorry if this is an old question I just started out
I’ve been using “Husky” but any food grade silicone lube will do the trick.
