  • Walking around the historical part of the Baku city - it is located in another part of the capital and is called "Baku Acropolis". In fact, it is a historical and architectural reserve. The fortress called Icheri Sheher (XII c.), the Palace of Shirvanshah dynasty (XV c.), the minaret of Synyk-Kala (XI c.), Maiden Tower (VII - XII c. ), Maiden Tower (VII - XII c.), "Bailov Stones" (XIII c.), mausoleum of Seyyid Yahya Bakuvi, caravanserais - Multani (XV c.), Bukhara (XV c.), Mollakhana (XV c.), Mollakhana (XIII c.). ), mosque-madrassah (1646-47), baths (XV-XIX cc.), shopping complex (XVI-XVII cc.), the House of Baku khans (XVIII c.), as well as numerous rich buildings of the XIX century. All buildings are elegant and decorated with intricate ornaments and patterns.
Walking around we will also see an interesting cathedral of the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women of the Russian Orthodox Church, a colorful Iranian district, embankment (one of the most beautiful in the world).
Most of the major monuments are located in the fortress of Icheri Sheher. It includes more than 10 mosques built at different times, starting from 1078 (the first building of the city was erected then), the Muhammad Mosque and several madrassas. An integral part of the ancient city were caravan-sheds: Bukhara, Khan (XV century), Multani (XV century), Kasym-bek, as well as the Bazaar Square. Everyone can look into the Portal of the residential or Khan's house and get in touch with the living conditions of the Middle Ages. Presence of baths (hamams) was obligatory in Azerbaijan. In Icherisheher there are Haji Gaib's Bath, Aga-Mikail's Bath, Gasim Bey's Bath.
Walking further here you can see - also the largest monument of antiquity - Shirvanshahs Palace, which architectural complex includes the palace itself, divankhane (meeting place for foreign ambassadors), palace mosque with minaret, Mausoleum of Seyid Yahya Bakuvi, tomb of Shirvanshahs, eastern portal, and bath. It is one of the largest Zoroastrian temples in the world: 28 meters high, 8 tiered beauty, which could shelter more than 200 people, rises in the south-eastern part of the fortress. Until now, scientists can not find out the true age of this "beauty". It is known only one thing that already in the XIII century it served as the main fortification of the city, and in 1858 it lit the lights of the lighthouse for ships.
"Devichya" means "unconquered", "unapproachable". Locals tell the following legend about the tower. "The Shah fell in love with his own daughter and decided to marry her. Terrified of the forthcoming marriage with her father, and wanting to dissuade him, the daughter asked to build a tower, thinking that during the construction, her father would come to his senses. But the Shah did not change his mind.
Then the girl climbed the tower and threw herself from it into the sea.
