Tunner from Poland TURBO LAMIK - create own TCU to work with 8hp with any engine but later tune a gearbox to work superb is not so easy. If you have problem - write to him , he is master with this .
Glad to see you back Can't wait to see some more N54 content I've benn working my way up the N54 fastest in the world list was sitting in 19th just waiting for confirmation to move up to 13th place as I just turned in my timeslip
What was your time?
What a perfect video man. I could address everything done here. Just perfect, thank you.
Whatever anyone's favorite supercar is, the R34 is prettier. Nothing comes close.
This is so impressive. For me it has open up alot of new ways to tamper with cars. Good jobs fellas. I've subbed and loving this content.
You guys are living my dream, i would love to get my foot in the door of 8 speed integration.
No one has ever seen Daniel drive with so much traction haha! Top job fellas
Have you guys done a video somewhere or can you possibly do a video on size comparisons with common boxes. Eg r154, standard rb boxes etc? I see mixed conversions where people have to cut tunnels etc to make these fit and some where (with adaptors) bolt in without tunnel mods.
This is a FANTASTIC idea for a video!
Will be interesting to see how these boxes deal with drag strip launches wanna see side by side comparisons of the cars before and after the swap I bet with the shift speed it's like having an extra 100hp in the car
To get an idea on drag racing, they are mechanically (aside from the converter) very similar to a dogde demon transmission. However the world record is held by this version of the trans and a turbo lamik TCU. Low 7 second pass.
i saw the title and automatically liked
Amazing piece of engineering
Awesome to see more content again! I have just converted my JZX100 to 8hp70 with clutch! I haven't been able to drive it yet as I'm still waiting on the prop shaft to be made 🥲
Good to see some vids that explain what you should expect on first test drives and adapting ect
Keep up the awesome work
Good to see you back bro. Would love to see N54 content
Man I hope this makes its way out to Cootamundra in the future
12:05 agreed, this might be legit. I might have some ZF manuals chillen in the future jk lol
Keep that 8HP movement going!
😂 70km you reckon?
Maybe 74…. 75 tops
Yes Your Honour
Only would've just touched it 😂
I love it! 🎉
would love to see the results of one of these behind a bigger turbo (efr9180 in my case) 13B in an FD or similar. Could be a great reliable fast option over a sequential, and ide imagine cheaper
Next level stuff .
This really made it feel like a modern car. Can't wait to see how it is on track with a bit of anger.
Awesome content Andrew, you guys are swapping 8HPs like hot cakes. I noticed you don’t recommend a specific relearn/learn process for the transmission, at least from the content I’ve seen. I’m going to rebuild the valve body on my 6HP in a 135i, which has quite a tedious and specific relearn process. In your opinion, do I not need to be exact with the relearn process?
So with these controllers they are fresh. Generally if we have this controller working in a car and change the 8hp to a different one, we can wipe the adaptions and start fresh.
If the trans is in good condition, the learning process is “simple” and fast. But if it happened to have worn clutches, following a similar procedure to oem can help is shift nicer faster.
Makes a lot of sense, thank you. Keep it boosted 😎
Opening a RB video, the first thing you notice: sounds like an RB 😆
Nice I’m thinking of swapping my e70 M57 x5 with zf8hp
Could one use one of the versions of the 8HP that has a 47-hp electric motor in place of the torque converter to convert pretty much anything with room for a battery pack into a hybrid-electric vehicle?
Not currently. I have seen a few DIY projects trying to get one working over the last few years, but its not been done successfully yet.
Does the A90 supra shifter 100% work with all the lamik stuff?
Also, ive been told when i do the swap i wont have a park function as such? Is this true?
why no more DCT swaps? We're they too complicated or unreliable or something? I noticed you're only really doing swaps with the torque converter 8 speed these days.
So the 8hp is a superior transmission. Faster, more forgiving, stronger. However there some upsides to DCT as it feels more aggressive, more performance orientated. Im gonna run a DCT in my car for a little while. But ultimately if i want to go fast the 8hp is the way to go.
turbolamik just works.
Most of the time! Some cars we do spend a lot time setting them up.
@@ZeroTo60Tube haha definitely better than HTG. AdamLZ got scammed to promote their gcu which they can't themselves get it to work properly lol
its been a strange product, i have never seen a product with so many customers not being able to use what they thought they were paying for. @@jonot8547
Auto transmissions tend to be better for handling a lot of torque, this is gonna be good
Yeah, we have been blown away with the abuse the 8hp70 will take.
Sounds like it has some sort of cyclic / rotational idle enabled.
You can use BMW S54/64/85 ITB dbw throttle body motor. Or plenty aftermarket nowadays. Or from motorbikes
Abt to embark on 8spd swapping something finally after 10yrs of thinking abt it 😂
What are you going to put the 8hp behind?
8hp swap would be perfect in my rx7!
Absolutely!
Andrew pls bring us some more jmc single turbo N54 stuff
Its coming.... its coming. However i need to do some other little projects i had promised people before the raid. Then ill get back to my things.
I hope we can see this driven in anger at roll racing once it’s ready!
I love my ZF
❤️ it
What would it take to get this fitted on a r33 gtst?
So in your opinion. The turbolamik is the most stable TCU out right now?
How is the plug n play CANTCU guys doing?
We have had an amazing run with the Lamik. Obviously watching a lot of users results, i do see people running a lamik, who probabaly shouldnt be, leading to shift issues. But if you know what you are doing the lamik is great. The cantcu however is really a more retail friendly product. It does limit you to the factory TCU, which can be good or bad depending on the application.
so I’m debating on getting a 8hp conversion for my mk4 Supra 3.4 7675. How much power can the hp trans hold?
800-1000hp on a stock 8hp70. The lower end for agressive use with no tq reduction.
Are you running any special transmission fluid, other than oem ZF or similar, in this and in your other 8HP builds that are mainly used for dragstrip or track?
Not in this one. We have tried fluids from nearly all manufacturers. To be brutally honest even in extreme conditions with clutch kits and hard launches, the performance of these 8hp70s doesnt seem effected by the oil used.
Good content..you're back..I'm back
Thanks for coming
awesome car and build. FYI andy's channel link doenst work
sorted that! thanks for the heads up.
hey guys just wondering if a turbolamik would support a 8hp76? from a 2021 bmw. thanks
It does not.
Why is the swap 30k? Are the gearboxes really expensive in Australia? What's a rough breakdown of that cost?
Everything is expensive in Australia, compared to EU and USA. However here is a breakdown on base kit price. www.8speed.au/products/8hp-skyline-gtr-kit
I see jzs161 Aristo in the carpark!
Its nearly done! Its owned by a friend of 8speed. Its been one of those we will work on it when not busy..... 12 months later.... its nearly ready to start. Should be a sweet thing 8speed, 2j with a single. I will do a review type video on it once its up and running.
How were you guys able to add paddle shifters to the OEM steering wheel?
Custom brackets. These are test parts. But the final billet ones will be done in a few weeks. And the panels to fill in the holes in the trim which you can see in this vid
did you guys get it worked out and working good at full steam? im wanting to put one in my r33. what final drive gear ratio set did you guys use and will it launch hard enough for drag racing?
yes, its working well. The owner has a few videos on his youtube channel as well. Stock diff ratios
@@ZeroTo60Tube I'd like you to setup the Lamik in my drag 335i. It made 1070whp all boost with the 3.0 n53 head at 3x psi. I have the mid sleeved 3.4l with copper gasket and 625 Honda studs sank deep and we're about to go 50psi 1300+ whp. I have the most upgraded 8hp75 money can buy from pure drivetrain solutions, billet converter with 5k rpm stall. I need to install the Lamik and gearbox, do the setup, and I also have to drive the car 500 miles to break in the built clutches. I need the Lamik to function so I can do engine and trans break in essentially, and then I need to lock the converter up 100%, as little torque reduction as possible, trans brake at 5k rpm. Full send. It's only a few weeks away from being on the dyno with the Lamik and new 3.4l 🙏. After we crush all the n54 and bmw 1/4 mile records, I'm gna put the internals of this gearbox in an awd 8hp75, put it in the gtr an throw a th400 in the drag car to go faster. So, I'll need you to remote in and help with the e92 and later the gtr. I'll pay you, or fly you out to California even. Let me know buddy! (she's finally done)
@@Mp-jw1qg I wont have time to focus on that until probabaly late in the year. You will see why, but defintely not before my car is on the road. Also the best person in the world to set that Lamik up is Lukasz. Especially for drag racing.
well, on with it then! lets see what u got goin on!!!! dont keep us in the dark !
Can the 8HP work with a Haltech 2500? I'm thinking about installing one into my RB30/26 R33 GTR Vspec.
Yes the r32 we did was running one of those. Drive by wire is a must if you have big cams.
Forgive my ignorance, but from what you say the 8HP transmission will work in a car with a
ECU without a "fly by wire" throttle body ?
I have an engine with an Autronic SM4 ( cable throttle body ), so an 8HP transmission with an
Turbolamik controller should work except for the idle issue ?
If I remember correctly the SM4 have some settings for an automatic transmission so it should
be possible to work around the idle with these settings.
Also the car do not have vacuum assisted brakes.
Yes, we have quite a few cars running with cable throttle. The spicy GTRs are just tricky with the grumpy cams. A lot of them are setup to idle high.
That is amplified with some ecus, like haltech currently, as the tcu uses tps as pedal position value. So at idle the tcu thinks the driver has his foot 10% on the pedal. This will change for haltech soon however. You can get around that with a seperate input for TPS instead of over canbus….
There’s a lot of options and a lot that goes in to it. However you can definitely make it work with that sm4 running the engine.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Thank you for the answer, looks like the 8HP installation will be
cheaper than planned as I don't to replace the SM4 with an MaxxEcu to get it going.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I'd imagine if the TC was changed, then the setup could run happier with a higher idle. There are guys who do custom TC's for the boxes with higher stalls that will be slipper low down
You are 100% correct, we have ordered 2 custom converters from the states, just waiting for them to arrive and test.@@blow0me
@@ZeroTo60Tube be interesting to see the results. Although I think the 8HP gets away without it, because you can use it like a manual with the clutch etc ? I know there's one guy in the UK racing is YB powered car and he uses it like that.
I assume the likes of the Skyline can't launch on the transbrake feature with a standard TC ? Would it ever allow enough rpm ?
Any chance Turbo lamik supports Toyota Aisin AA80E transmission?
It does not.
you could probably make the HTG work with it, but the HTG does seem to require more of a learning curve. And if you're the only person doing it, it would be a huge learning curve and you'd need to resolve all wiring etc.
Interestingly I see HTG now list CAN control of the ZF8HP range, so no rewiring of the mechatronics. Whether that improves peoples perception of the unit or not....who knows.
i dont think anyone has managed to get the htg to work on any street car. not for daily use anyway. I should add we do look after a Lexus RCF running motec control of the AA80E, it works but its not great to drive. Not like a lamik. The zf8 does appear to be a superior box to the aisin. @@blow0me
That sounds angry ! Have you done any of the rwd Skylines?
Yes, quite a few rear wheel drive RBs now.
Show us the rwd RB'S@@ZeroTo60Tube
With xdrive?
This still uses the factory GTR all wheel drive system.
What is the 8 speed out of?
Looks like an AWD box out of an X5 or something
@@BaileyCooper-yn1ur To me after watching and listening to the gears change it makes me kringe. I do not like the sound of automatics change gear. 😢 I'm driving an automatic at the moment but I'm converting it to a manual next year. I love driving stick. I decide when to change gears at what rpm. When I race a jeep the same as mine he is in auto and I'm shifting gears manualy when I reach peak rpm I destroy him in a race. To me (old school) automatics are annoying lol. Take care thanks for the reply.
Until you experience one it’s very hard to understand how good it is. Yes it can do super smooth auto mode, where the gears blend seemlessly together. But it will also shift fast, faster than a sequential race trans. You can always add shift cut, if you want the old school sequential shift sounds, but it just slows the car down in reality.
This does the best of both worlds. Manly fast shifts and super comfy when you have the wife in the car. Oh and if you want a clutch pedal we set those up too with this trans. But it’s still an automatic, so if you want transbrake starts…. Also doable.
@@ZeroTo60Tube Thanks for the reply. But my wife is used to me driving like a maniac and red light racing 😂😂😂😂. I was thinking of going sequential but am yet to find out if it is street legal. I have plenty time as the rebuild may take a couple of years. Purpose build twin turbo V8, manual conversion a drop tank and some body mods. Exited to start mid next year after I finish my sons house and a well deserved holiday. What is that trans out of? How many $$$ did he say 11k? Although mine will probably cost similar lol. Regards Rik
@@ZeroTo60Tube It's OK I found it a German box used a lot by BMW. 👍
Yes an auto GTR 👌
piss the auto off and put a proper transmission in it
This is faster than a sequential. Stonger than any h patten manual. Will launch like a glide or TH400. And drive around town like a brand new european automatic..... You can't get a more proper transmission right now.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I'd love to believe the 70 is stronger than say a Magnum.....I'd doubt it though
yeah look a 6060 is not a toy. But we have had a few customers ditch the 6060 for an 8hp70. In the drift cars, one guy mixed his gear selection and clutch dumped the 8hp70 in 7th gear. While that wouldnt hurt the 6060, the clutch in front of it wouldnt have taken that load, where the 8hp70 turned the tyres. Its the incredible amount of friction surface area in a 8hp70 that lets you abuse them more than pretty much anything compareable. Yeah mechanic you may snap a 8hp shaft before the 6060, but actual driving abuse you will do more with 8hp70 and turbo lamik. @@blow0me
Hi I would love to do build my r34 GTR the same way coyld you send my your email address ?
Is there kits available for the mk3 supra?
Not full kits. But im sure you could put something together.
Ive seen 8hp bellhousing adapters for the 7mgte and want a more modern AT with more gears.
As much As I would want just get a drop in r154... those are going for a pretty penny now days.
Ill prob have to cobble my own kit up.
This is really cool. The ZF8 transmissions are great. I have a ZF8HP45 in my 2019 BMW 440i (B58) and they give a buttery smooth ride. Wasn't expecting to see one of these in an R34 but would like to see more content! Keep up the good work!
All those classic cars should get an 8hp swap. Just amazing what it does with the car. Would love to have my e30 325i vintage with an 8hp.
The small 8hp45/50should fot pretty good, even the big 8hp70 should fit with minor changes, considering an 5hp30 with m73 does..
Sick G-D-AH mate!
I don't get how this channel doesn't have like 200,000+ subscribers, absolutely 10/10 content
Does zf make any transmissions that can be tranversely mounted on a 4 cylinder?
What blow off valve is this car running
Save the manual 😎😂
clean the steering wheel please, leather should not shine
I will pass that message on
Another great video Andrew. I love those smooth shifts in P1. I would die for those with my 8HP75. It is amazing how an auto trans quietens down such a beast in P1 and makes it so easy to drive around the city. Yet when you need the power, you just put it into P3 (manual mode) and it is better than a manual. Great conversion
I have been working on some updated maps for the 8hp75... well actually even lamik have just updated the base maps too. Taken the 8hp75 off beta. Yours is still the only 8hp75 we setup, but i will let you know when we have some new updates. More OEM like behaivour coming soon as well.
Great news. I look forward to the updates. I believe a thermostat may need to be installed on mine as well. On a day like today 37C, the temp gets to the 60C but generally, it takes a long time to get over 50C if you are lucky. No chance in winter. @@ZeroTo60Tube
One of these days I'll get an 8hp kit put together for my turbo E46 😅
I own a supra.but for me a package for me as a dream car and setup.would be a 34 with a jz and 8 speed...
It kind of sucks the GTRs are worth so much now. A JZ powered GTR with 8hp would be epic. But i think ditching the RB nower days is very unlikely. Not much of a GTR at that point.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I hear you...I have owned supras for 20 years and maybe I can't drive that good but they just seem a straight line top monster...the gtrs platform goes around corners.and for me a 34 coupe is the best.i could of brought 1 years ago n/a for 7k I kick my self now.the JDM prices now are just crazy.i paid $3500 for my S1 aero top in 2015..il keep dreaming about a 34 🤣👍

I’ve seen a place in NZ who use an electric throttle off a BMW to control the ITB’s on the RB26 and it looks awesome because they mount it all under the manifold and shave the top of the manifold to look way nicer, it could be the next upgrade for this car!
Dahtone in Sydney also makes a kit that does the same thing
Oh cool, it looks like a great kit ay!
I did this (but a DIY setup with the same BMW actuator). in the end, we ditched it all and have gone to bosch dbw and plazmaman intake with 12 injectors and ITB delete. the BMW tb actuator and the OEM idle control with the pid setup was a PITA to make it all work properly. had a lot of issues. maybe we were just tuning it wrong (eWG TS on DBW circuit 2, mixed with DBW for the TB, on an emtron kv12).
they copied the Dahtone kit
I think it went the other way around, considering dahtone used to use the new Zealand kit before they made there own

Thanks Man!
I stumbled across your channel when I started looking into the 8HP gearbox.
I am enjoying watching what you have been doing with them.
Have you ever fitted one of these boxes to a car that does not have any electronic systems?
My dream would be to fit/have fitted one of these boxes to a Rover SD1 2600.
These cars are on carbs and have no electronic control systems.
Just wondering.
Yes. With the turbo lamik controller it’s just a matter of adding some sensors to the engine.
Great project! Was it approx 30k for Andy because it was the first install like this for the workshop and thus he paid for the research and development, or is this reflective of the approximate price for subsequent installs into gtrs ?
That’s about what it costs for a drive in drive out setup. Depending on current mods on the car and time to get everything working that can change. $30k is probably the lower end of range for this particular job.
Holy sh*t
Hi what transfer case is that ? Oem Skyline with an adapter ?
OEM Skyline, with adapter yes
Top stuff as always mate!! My 8 speed has transformed my car! I love it! Keep up the great content mate! Would be great to see some content on tuning the torque table & multiplier table to make the shifts better. 👍
The only reason to adjust those is to ensure the calculated torque figure is correct through the different load conditions. You really want it with in 50nm all the the time.
How are your adaptions looking?
@@ZeroTo60Tube the adaptations seem good, it drives faultless on the road in full auto, smooth as silk. Just when at track under full load in manual it flares between shifts. Looked into my torque table and at 100kpa was only showing about 288nm in the boxes around that area, my car make 560nm. I was gonna raise the values a bit in there and the multiplier to see if stops flare?
@@markthorogood5457 Depending on which table you are looking at that 100kpa is atmospheric pressure, which is probabaly correct around the 280nm. You will need to check your boost multiplier table. Which covers 0-400kpa (from memory) so you can dial in your boost torque values. I would also recomend sending your current bin file to your turbolamik dealer and get them to varify it for you. Just to be sure its not something simple.
Lovely, I like the exponential rev counter. Initially I thought the rev counter didn't work until I realized the scaling 😅.
But this engine sounds soo good! Maybe I couldn't wait as well to fully warm up the engine before WOT it😂
