  • Welcome aboard!
In the previous video, we discussed the Pros of working at Emirates Airline as a pilot. We all know that there is no perfect company in the world. Since mega companies employ thousands of employees, they cannot make each employee 100% happy since each person in the company has different needs. In this video, from a former pilot of Emirates Airline perspective, I wanted to explain the Cons of Emirates Airline Pilot Life.
I want to emphasize that these are my views. Maybe some of these disadvantages are not applicable to you. As usual, please send your opinions about your video through the comment section. I love reading your comments. See you in the another video! I would appreciate if you like and share this video as well as subscribe my channel.

Hey Caner, I'm also a FO here from EK on the 777 around 4 years now.
All the cons you provided in the video is so true especially the last part about Private Life and Professional Life everything has to revolve around Emirates.
There's still many CONS about it.
    1. CC non stop gossiping and the endless talk about his wife, his girlfriend, his husband his boyfriend etc etc.
    2. The captains, some entitled Captains are super bossy here in emirates, just because they are citizens or locals here they said things that are nasty to Green Card holders Or work pass holders.
    3. Some 777 flights are very old, no upgrades at all and ending black tape issue. Im sure you know about this.
    4. I totally agree with you on the Checks after Checks, but i've not encounter any of those since my first day here. you can always do a swap flights with your fellow colleagues provided you're in good terms with them. Swapping flights is more efficient than bidding system.
    5. At the very least, EK salary and benefits is much better than my previous airline I was flying with. And I was previously flying top airlines in Asia top 3 airlines in Skytreck ranking. The most expensive and smallest country in the Asia pacific, If you guess it.

Hey, thanks for the contribution. I appreciate your long comment :) I agree about salary part. Still EK pays one of the best pilot salaries in the world. However, swapping system is very inefficient compared to what US pilots have. Keep sending your comments! cheers!

Hi Caner, glad that you posted the Pros and Cons videos separately. It allowed your viewers to think about the Pros and then be informed about some cons of working for Emirates separately. This Cons video showed the importance of having a Union to look after the pilots working situation and be a buffer between the company and pilots. It seems like several of the viewers of your channel are itching to work for Emirates from the comments. Hopefully the last 2 videos will allow them to know Emirates Airlines better and how the pilots lives are affected that work for them. Glad that you had the opportunity to come to America and work for United Airlines. I'm sure it makes you appreciate the benefits of being Unionized after not having the protection previously.

Every job has pros and cons. People working at Apple or Google resign. There is no perfect job so even if there are cons, its just about how you accept them. Someone might be getting $40.000 a month and that sounds amazing but nobody knows how much stress it takes per month etc. If EK is what you want to join, just go for it, everyone has their own experience.

I don’t know what airline you are working for here in US, but believe me you are going to love it here in America. Your union will protect you all the times as long as you don’t do something really bad! The majority of major airlines training is easy, they will help you for anything you need. I did seat support last week for a captain was doing check ride and the sim instructor was very cool. I did my best to help the captain and at the end they thanked me to come and help. The seniority is amazing as you see the hiring wave is still ongoing. Good luck man and welcome to United States of America

As an aside thought, how is the US experience going? (I've been very ill for a while, so missed keeping up with you.)

Caner I really appreciate the detailed pros and cons. I recently transitioned from a low cost company to THY and can say that some of the cons that you mentioned about THY may have changed for better such as bidding system and less roster changes. Still Emirates seems like an upgrade for sure! For the EU and US nationals it may not seem as advantageous as their national careers but for the rest of us Pros weigh higher IMHO.
On Emirates website I see that they only provide company accommodation nowadays. I don’t see any mention of a rent allowance in case you don’t want to live on the company property. If that’s the case it’s a con for sure.

    • @CanerAcarbay
      @CanerAcarbay  5 місяців тому

Hey Deniz, thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, what you consider a bidding system in Turkish is not a bidding system. It's very primitive. In Emirates and US carriers, you can make iterative biddings. I hope Turkish pilots will one day have a proper bidding system such as PBS. I'm glad that your schedules are more stable than before. That's a great thing! When I was there, I had many months that I didn't fly one single flight from my original roster.
When I was in the Emirates, I bought my flat. That's how I got paid accommodation allowance. It's still the same. This policy is very dynamic. They keep changing it depending on the supply-demand situation in EK villas.

That's going to be a big difference for me. I'm joining EK after having worked a long time in a very training oriented airline. I could make the biggest mistake (as long as it's not gross negligence) I will face absolutely no punishment and I will reveive as much training as I need to be brought to standards. I'm usually great in the sim and during line checks. On my records I look like Sully because I've learned to play the "check" game. During normal operation I've also managed to stay out of trouble even during non-standard situacions. I admit that I'm a bit worried about what I will experience at Emirates, especially in the begining during the adaptation period and the type of training "characters" that I will encounter.
    Thanks for the video!

yea for most US airlines unless you are absolutely lost in the simulator you'll be ok and will be given encouraging feedback and more chances to get it right. For middle east and some Asian companies it feels like some mistakes are held against you for your whole career lol xD

    Hi Caner,
I think if you want to fly long-haul, then you'll have to face night flights anyway. On the way down or on the way back. The compagnies flying by day only like Ryanair etc have another serious issue. You fly every day. You will fly 6 or 7 days in row. You will still be exhausted. You wake up at 4am and you'll do 10h duty. Believe me, I have done it. So you have to choose what you want, the jetlag or the amount of duty.
    Thanks for your honest review.
