It's a product of colonialism. The Spanish loanwords was a result of 300 year rule Spanish colonization. The Americans would later colonized the country after the Philippine-American war. During the US colonial rule, the Americans mandated English as the country's official language. This resulted to the country's education system that requires Filipinos to speak English more than their native tongue which is why their language has now evolved into code-switching. Native languages such as Tagalog are no longer develop in its full potential because of the massive impact of colonization of Spain and its colonial successor USA.

What's sick is that apparently, it was lowered to 12 because children below 18 are being used to commit crimes like selling drugs and stealing. They can't send minors to prison so they lowered 18 to 12.
We've been colonized by Spain, Japan and America. In the spain colonization era, the Spanish people made our ancestors speak only in Spanish so that's why you can hear some spanish words when we talk. And we were colonized by British people but not a lot of people knew about this because there are almost no record about it. We were colonized by Japan where we also adapted some of their words. And we were colonized by America after defeating Japan. In which after, they thought Filipinos about education. So basically, the reason why our language is kind of unique is due to years and years of colonization.

@Sinag Sarita Carriedo It is not a new law.. That age of consent is existing even before age of criminal liability is changed to 12. Age of consents means that when you reach that age.. Sex with consent does not count as statutory rape. Meaning having sex below that age (Which is 12 in the Philippines) is considered as statutory rape and you will be imprisoned for doing so. THAT is why right now in the senate, they are digging this thing up and I think they want to change it to 18. 12 being the age of consent. 18 being the legal age. I know it is insane but the law has been around for decades and not a lot of people knows about it. In society it's 18 but in the law it's 12. Just wait. I think they are going to pass a law increasing it from 12 to 18 making those pedophiles that have sex with 17 and below to be imprisoned. 12 being the age of consent is also the reason why 12 years old moms can't do anything with the one who impregnated them. I've known real 12 and 13 years old kids who are now mothers. Their partners are free because the law allows it.
True.. hahaha why dont she put herself in that situation. Every filipino have their own freedom what they want to do.. especially if teenager moms didnt harm any others life. Hahaha
But alcohol is damaging for your brain and sex is not? On the contrary sex has been shown to have many of benefits. The most relevant that comes to mind for teens is that it eases the minds and improves concentration. (In my country we’re very educated on sex and it is not considered taboo. Parents would rather us talk about it and ask for protection/go to a gynecologist before it happens than to make us hide it and get pregnant at a young age.)
as a filipino I agree that sex education and contraceptives are a MUST in this country. instead of prohibiting or shaming people who involve in sexual activities, it's better that we should be educated in this matter first.
In san jose del monte, the school i go to, the health office of the city went to senior high schools and taught us sex education. What lubricant to use, how to prevent std's, what are the contraceptives. Although i myself learned a lot from that, i had sexual activities way way before i had sex ed. I learned a lot of things myself and in the hard way. So ur right, sex ed is a must.

Coming from a very strict Filipino family, I can confirm this. Filipino parents absolutely dislike the topic of sex-related topics. This of course comes from my personal experience. edit: Although when my mother snooped through my phone and found my greatest heirloom treasure (i.e. hentai), she just looked at me straight in the eye and said: "What are these? Why do you have naked Naruto characters on your phone?" (because she thinks that "Naruto" is every anime in existence) as she giggled with clear confusion from her eyes. Embarrassed, I replied "Uhh, my friends at school shared those pictures with me that's all" which she obviously knew that I was lying. After that incident, whenever she comes home from abroad, she would always buy anime related things that I don't even know which anime they're from. So moral of the story; *I want to die.*

The ministry in my school (Fundamental Baptist) thought us about premarital sex at that time and the consequences of having sex early on. They do not directly thought us of abstinence but just gave as a great awareness of sex
"I think it has nothing to do with our religion" i have to disagree with this one. The major religions in our country consider sex (especially premarital) as taboo and because of that people in our country are scared to talk to about sex, let alone educate the population regarding safe sex and the like (especially teenagers). Other countries have lower cases of teenage pregnancy because of the sexual education that they receive at a young age in the household, in school, etc.
EXACTLY. i hate that it's so taboo. having urges is normal and shouldn't be considered bad. i really think Philippines should implement sex ed into the system.
i agree with you but i think the point of the girl with her statement was that being a Christian/Catholic doesn't necessarily mean they don't engage in pre-marital sex (contrary to what is expected of them because of their religion). kasi ang tanong din ay kung "conservatice country" ang pilipinas, bakit andami pa ring cases ng teenage pregnancy? and yung answer is ayun nga, Christian/Catholic or not, walang pnipili. not to mention, marami naman talaga ay Christian/Catholic lang on paper and not in practice (especially Catholics who were baptized as babies, which means they didn't really have a choice and just got used to identifying themselves as Catholics) pero tama ka rin. taboo ang usapang sex dito kaya mas nacucurious ang mga tao and since hindi tinuturo, they find ways on their own. kaso ayun nga lang, recklessly.
No doubt sexual education is very important, and not judgement based teaching sex is bad till a certain arbitrary age but rather clinical education on the subject.

And their are the future of this nation. Someday one of them will change the rule.
What's sick is that apparently, it was lowered to 12 because children below 18 are being used to commit crimes like selling drugs and stealing. They can't send minors to prison so they lowered 18 to 12.
20 is way to late lol. 16 sounds fine
im a filipino and i don't even know that lol
Well they know now
I can hear Spanish and English words. I didn't know Filipinos spoke like that.
And also a fun fact, one of the first universities of Spain is built in the Philippines.
filipino+tagalog+english+spanish

@@leepenguinie1214 wait really, wow. That's very interesting!

Philippine : *Age of consent is 12*
Filipinos : *_NANI_*
LMAO
Their partners are free because the law allows it.

as a filipino I agree that sex education and contraceptives are a MUST in this country. instead of prohibiting or shaming people who involve in sexual activities, it's better that we should be educated in this matter first.
In san jose del monte, the school i go to, the health office of the city went to senior high schools and taught us sex education. What lubricant to use, how to prevent std's, what are the contraceptives. Although i myself learned a lot from that, i had sexual activities way way before i had sex ed. Yup. It's because of religion why teenage pregancy is so common. The lack of sex education is astounding.
i agree with you but i think the point of the girl with her statement was that being a Christian/Catholic doesn't necessarily mean they don't engage in pre-marital sex (contrary to what is expected of them because of their religion). kasi ang tanong din ay kung "conservatice country" ang pilipinas, bakit andami pa ring cases ng teenage pregnancy? and yung answer is ayun nga, Christian/Catholic or not, walang pnipili. not to mention, marami naman talaga ay Christian/Catholic lang on paper and not in practice (especially Catholics who were baptized as babies, which means they didn't really have a choice and just got used to identifying themselves as Catholics)
pero tama ka rin. taboo ang usapang sex dito kaya mas nacucurious ang mga tao and since hindi tinuturo, they find ways on their own. kaso ayun nga lang, recklessly.
No doubt sexual education is very important, and not judgement based teaching sex is bad till a certain arbitrary age but rather clinical education on the subject.

This is just neglect in the part of Philippine politicians. So basic yet no one did anything to amend the law. Also sex education should be part of the curriculum otherwise misinformation and wrong perception regarding this topic will spread especially amongst the youth.

They're talking about the age of consent. A 16 year old has the sufficient mental capacity to differentiate rape from consensual sex, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's the optimal time to have children. I disagree with 12 being the age of consent in the Philippines, but 21+ is really too old.

i was thinking the same thing. in most or all countries that have issues with teen pregnancy, the problem is kids having unrestricted sex with other kids. most people in the philipenes don't even know that the age of consent is 12. the way this video is presented seems to be blaming adult men for a problem that they don't have anything to do with.

Adults (men and women) can take advantage of children.
