A great and underrated movie. Tom was fantastic... as always.
Luke M. Yes it was and had a lot of historical references in there to.
this movie sucked ballz and tom cruise is a washed up crazy scientologist who shoulda retired after rain man
TOM IS ALWAYS FANTASTIC!
Luke M WTF are you talking about.
tom cruise was miscast, awful actor.
Just watch Blow if you’re looking for a far better version of a similar sort of story.
Man was this a great film Tom cruise at his finest.
There is a tiny airstrip across the Amite river where my mother lives in Louisiana that Seal used to use. About 35 minutes from Baton Rouge, and back then it would have been in the middle of nowhere, as there were no subdivisions or major roads anywhere near it. It's a lot more built up now, but it's still there.
I betcha there is a few bags of cocaine in the river, that they forgot to pick up.
Summerfield ?
Yeah, it looks good. Why are Tom Cruise's underrated movies turn out better than expected (except at the box office)?
Cause Tom is a good actor, it's just the popular movies have shitty stories
All his movies earned a lot. The critics are really fond of every movie he makes, but they all earn a lot. Problem with mummy is the critics who took a dump on it so Universal decided to back off. But, The Mummy had a budget of 125mil and earned 400mil. But for them, not good enough. Some would say that American Made was a flop, but it only cost 50mil to make (according to BoxOfficeMojo), but made over 130mil according to same source. Which is still profitable. Problem is that the studios want a lot of money for nothing.
Stefan Kurcubic american made was freakin awesome tho i watch it everytime its on
@@stef123992 Agreed, every studio wants an absolute blockbuster so they can turn it into a franchise. In the end all they do is water everything down.
It’s because American audiences don’t know what’s good for them. There are many original ideas that filmmakers and studios want to make, it’s just that audiences don’t want to pay to see them.
Its a shame he was Murdered in real life. The stories this guy could probably tell if he were still around
That’s why he did the video tapes
All of the stories he would probably tell is why he got murdered
Isn’t the dude who exposed the cia for selling coke the one who is the movie based on?

I’m a pilot from Europe. I fly same planes as they do. My „coolest flight adventure ever” was when I saw some smoke over forest in Poland and Air Traffic Controller asked me to fly and inspect whether it is a forest fire. Took me 2 minutes to realize it is just some proper barbecue party. I would give away all of my aviation memories to join them for just one flight like this.

I always found it very funny that he handed these guys a bag full of assault rifles and held them back with a bat.

Tom Cruise is seriously an amazing actor, whose popularity in MIB overshadowed his other performances
Yeah can you imagine if it was another actor who played the lead in this?
MIB? You mean Mission Impossible
He wasn’t in men in black lol
I think you have Tom Cruise confused with Will Smith. It's cool, it happens.
You are the gringo who is confused and maybe a bit high
This was a really great flick!

This movie had me on my couch while having snacks
I'd never heard of this movie until a mate at work recommended it. I really enjoyed it.
No matter the surname they will use, if their sentence ends by ''who always deliver'' , you know you're golden.
True but idk how a person thinks they can say Pablo I’m ready to retire lol. Like they just gonna let you walk away? Lol

not sure who chose the wardrobe but that Coca-Cola shirt was *perrrrrfect*

Tom Cruise was very well cast. Its too bad this didn’t catch on when it came out, great flick.
tom cruise needs to do some more movies like this, actual acting and not some crazy roof jumping bs.
Such a great story
whats the song when he's talking to the contras? Continues when he's got the graphic showing his delivery
Bombo Y Maracas is the song
Lol I was gonna ask the same thing. Good song

Good way to make dough after you get your multi engine rating 😂
True 😂😂
In truth you don't need a ticket if you can fly when its illegality,
heard the story of a pilot who had a guy flying for him NOT in the US and never ask if he had a ratting he was a good pilot that could get job done and in a poor country.
its amazing what people can do at times, met the owner who was telling the story and had spent time with the pilot as well .
Yeah the only think stopping you from committing multiple federal crimes and becoming a focus of the DEA is a flight certificate.
The performance of Tom Cruise in this movie was pretty good.

Still remember back in 2017 at the Theater , folks was like ( S.O.B ) ! those Snow birds!

It bugs the heck out of me cause I have one.
I had a friend in high school who was 1 of the last C-130 pilot,s a Lt Col -USAF, to fly out of Saigon in 1975.He was later working for the CIA -Air America.
Just as Seale narrates here, guns to the contras, pickup a load of cocaine in Columbia, fly it into Panama.
We wondered how he was able to buy a gas station in our little seaside city.
His aircraft crashed in the jungles of Columbia killing all aboard. Some say it was by ground based gunfire....karma can be a beatich.
I remember well that big laugh in cinema, when that Coca Cola T-shirt walked in the scene. :D What a funny statement that was! :D Of course... once upon a time there was actually cocain in original Coca Cola too. :)
I warched the movie and its actually really good I really enjoyed it

The is a good movie definitely in my top 3
Tom was a good 150lb too light to play Barry Seal, he was unit in real life.
Tom Cruise changes history. He's an MiB operative
Being a aviation nerd there is no way he can do this flight without getting fuel before getting to his first stop a Piper aerostar maximum distance is 1,024 miles, the first leg of his flight from the US to Colombia is over 1,800 miles. If he got fuel in Cancun then it would make sense.
Lotta smugglers bypass the whole "safe point of no return thing" in order to fly longer distances. It may even be mentioned in the movie, I don't remember.
Im no expert in aviation but can he refill his gas mid air? Or is it impossible like refueling the plane from the inside
@@ordndo honestly it's hard enough with military refueling takes hours of experience, can't see some drug cartel able to do it better

@@johnmarker8920 I could lol military is a bunch of hot head idiots... these people are making the cash.
That being said... the question is how... We are also talking a stock plane these could have been modified (unlikely) to hold more fuel somewhere. This would effect weight however.

Ppl Actually using underrated correctly on UA-cam im amazed instead of using it to be trendy or sound intelligent. It was far better than it was given credit for.
Not the greatest movie but definitely underrated.
It just annoys the piss out of me when ppl watch a video of prime Ali boxing and call him underrated. He wasnt underrated, he was regarded as possibly the best of all time.
That’s pretty accurate, correct rating. He got the rating he deserved and earned. He was rated correctly, not overrated, not underrated.

Completely ignoring the fact that this was Reagan's idea in the first place... Cognitive dissonance is a hell of a condition. Can't you just admit that he was just as crooked as bill?
So bring charges, idiot. A small airport in the middle of UsA is no big deal. Im a Commercial Pilot. and was a cop too.
whats the name song?
I came to a Tom Cruise movie to learn a bit of English, now I have to learn Spanish.
Anyone else likes staring at Tom's middle tooth?
This is so wholesome
Wholesome? This is a Tragedy. Focus the perspective and forget the movie. You will see that all this actually did happen. All this was not done by the Traffickers. Neither did the Cartels. It was not made by the Colombians or the Mex. All of this was done by the CIA, DEA, NSA, Pentagon, Reaga/Bush Administration, with the support of Arkansas Governor Mr. Bill Clinton. Those are FACTS. This is in the US History books. Wholesome? No. This is a Tragedy. A Shame and an Offense to our Democracy. This was done by our own Gov't that fights against terrorism and against Narcos. LOL We are the Terrorists. We are the Cartel. We the People.

Bails of cocaine falling from low flying planes
What happened to maverick
No offence to Mr. Cruise, but I feel this would have all been a bit more believable with Matthew McCougnahey cast in the main role.
He is not a pilot tho so the scenes where he is inside the aircraft would be wierd, cameraman on the other seat would need to fly the plane while matthew did his acting
But Tom cruise can fly a plane
Nope..Tom all the way. He should have received an Oscar nomination for this role alone. he was brilliant!
But Tom flew the plane himself though. No disrespect to McCoughnahey but Tom really killed this role. Can’t imagine any other actor besides Tom playing Barry Seal in this movie.
that would’ve been such a great movie 😭
One part of this movie I never understood: some guy from the US government is in Central America and tells Barry hey, do it this way, its for the war effort. So he does. Why is the government pissed off after the fact when he was just doing what they wanted him to do?
Because in the meanwhile the operation got too big.
The CIA was probably thinking it would turn out a modest smuggling of a few hundred kilos a month, enough for the "nose candy" of a selected elite in a few cities...instead it turned out into a literal flooding of over a ton a day (along with other operations by other groups like Carlos Ledher's) which quickly pummeled the price to "working man low" and quickly turned most US cities from Miami up the coast until Boston into a drug fueled mayhem. In the mid 80s one could fine a full gram of untouched "95% pure" colombian coke for as low as 40 dollars and by the end of the '80 local criminal even introduced crack cocaine which costs even less and got diffused at the lowest level of society like a wildfire.
@@ClaudeMagicbox “cia introduced crack cocaine”
Like any big empire there are rivalries, CIA & FBI(plus DEA) never really agree on their objectives and ultimately serve different masters with goals that are sometimes opposed
The US govt like the Soviet state is not a single entity but a giant conglomerate with multiple tentacles & processors with one part not knowing or caring what the others are up to. The CIA turned a blind eye & even lent a helping hand against the DEA & local enf who were merely trying to bring who they thought was a trafficker to justice. Barry seal was an Intel operative who had much more value fighting communists while enabling cartels & even raking in some cash for operations in the process.
Because the government was telling the public it wasn't involved in the war
