- What’s happening in this American Made movie clip?
Barry (Tom Cruise from Mission Impossible), JB (Caleb Landry Jones) and Bill (Jayson Warner Smith) are in the air when the DEA arrives to ask them to land. The DEA jets are faster, but lose fuel faster. So the 3 men decide to decrease their speed and continue flying until the DEA jet runs dry and is forced to stop following them.

What’s the American Made movie about?
In 1978, Barry Seal (Tom Cruise from Mission Impossible, Top Gun and Rain Man), a commercial jet pilot, smuggled Cuban cigars into the United States. He is recruited by the CIA to fly clandestine reconnaissance missions over Central America. During a mission, the Medellín Cartel asks Seal to fly cocaine on his return flights to the United States. Seal accepts and starts sending the cartel's cocaine to Louisiana. The CIA turns a blind eye to the drug trade, but the DEA tracks down Seal. To avoid authorities, Seal and his family must move to a remote town in Arkansas. The small town becomes wealthy and turns out to be the center of cocaine trafficking in the United States. Eventually, the CIA shuts down the program and abandons Seal, who is arrested. He escapes prosecution by making a deal with the White House, which wants evidence that the Sandinistas are drug traffickers. Seal manages to obtain photos that link the Medellin cartel to the Nicaraguan Sandinistas, but the White House publishes them as propaganda against the Sandinistas. Seal being in the pictures, he is arrested and the cartel plots revenge. Seal is found guilty and is sentenced to hours of community service. Finally, unable to hide from the cartel, he is shot dead by assassins. The CIA destroys all evidence linking them to Seal and continues the smuggling, but using Iran instead to deliver weapons to the Contras.

Nobody has any doubt about the cameras, planes, DEA, not to mention all the others. And I grew up in AR and EVERYONE knew how the Clintons had gotten power. remember the turbo prop Cessna 206 model if i remember right the DEA had, was quite a quick little light the fire and scream into the sky and no worries on shock cooling the cylinder heads from driving down or overheating them on a hot day or night in south Florida climbing out.
But like the movie said all that speed comes at a price as the Gas engine that came with the aircraft was gas sipper next to the Turboprop jet A gas Bunner.
That dude went from competing in the Special Olympics to head of banking. Congrats!
Hated how the movie ended
Keep in mind this was a time when you didn't have to report what you deposited, but these days anything over $10K needs to be reported.
Heck if I want to change a 20 for coins at a bank I have to justify it, show ID and must already have account with the bank. Not the same as it being “reported” but soon every single transaction will automatically be reported, categorized and your personal version of an ESG score will be adjusted accordingly.
Any "suspicious" banking activity will be reported. I knew a bank teller and she told me they reported cash deposits as low as $4,000 if the person looked "suspicious", whatever that means.

So they have Tom Cruise, a massive aviation buff working on this film, and he didn’t point out that on the outside the second plane is a Cessna 340 and on the inside its a Piper PA-30/39 Twin Comanche? And why didn’t they just show the Twin Comanche, it’s cooler than a 340 anyway!
It would more likely be a Coast Guard helicopter with a couple of mounted M60s, and if these guys didn't do what they were told, they'd get shot down.

Why didn't the EDA send other planes to intercept when low on gas? Coast guard, state police, FBI field office, military, lot of options
They want the credit, even when working for the government, keeping a good reputation and finishing important jobs is crucial for recognition and promotions. Reinforcements from other agencies is when in dire need (lack of manpower, neutralisation of a national or international menace…)
It really wouldn't have mattered. The planes they were using were hella fast for prop planes. Any non-jet that showed up would have been outrun.
