Overland Jeep Rubicon Walk Around with 395JNKY's "Bele"

  • In this video I"ll go over most of the upgrades that I've installed on my 2016 Jeep Rubicon. It's been a labor of love, but a journey that has provided me not just a very capable overloading vehicle, but more importantly a lot of self-taught skills by doing almost all of these upgrades by myself in the garage.
    Overlanding is quickly becoming one of our favorite hobbies and we just can't seem to get enough of the great outdoors. After 4 years, I feel as if we have built a very capable rig to handle just about any obstacle, while at the same time, giving us all of the amenities we need to comfortably be outdoors for any multi-day trip in any weather.

      A Marshall, thanks for the compliment. Its a labor of love and I have enjoyed every minute working on my Jeep. Constantly learning new skills and saving a ton of dough by doing most of the work myself. And so far, nothing has fallen off yet. LOL. Congrats on the new rig. You're going to love the JL. There's times I drive my wife JL and am amazed at the power that little 4 cyl turbo puts out, if you go that direction. Happy Trails and most important, is to have fun with the build and take your time when you're just not sure about something!!!

    Still making my way through your videos and loving the detail you've put into them, Daniel. Nice work on this one. Maybe an idea for you for a future video: Discuss how you insure the accessories on your Jeep and travels, especially your roof top tent. I haven't seen many videos discussing this topic. I had a bit of a shock recently while looking into my coverages when someone stole some stuff off my Jeep (knicked my BROG Tire bag and Tire Bag XL with a bunch of recovery gear in it 😔).
    Although they didn't touch my tent (FSR HC80 bolted and bracketed to a Rhino 3 Bar Backbone Rack) the event caused me to dig deeper into my insurance....and low and behold I discovered major grey area: Some auto insurance companies like Progressive will tell you they cover the tent under their auto policies when they are selling you the policy (they will even happily tell you that you would only be covered if you buy their additional accessories coverages but only up to certain limits)...but if you press the agent to contact their underwriters most will be told that a tent isn't covered because it's not "permanently" attached to your vehicle. When pressed about defining "permanent" (because most of a vehicle is bolted together anyway) they would balk and couldn't give me a straight answer.
    I spent hours on the phone with progressive over the course of a few days and got different answers from different agents.
    When I got agents that said an RTT would be covered, they couldn't tell me in my policy where it confirmed the coverage and they wouldn't send anything in writing.
    After going through that, I contacted AAA, which I have home owners through and the first agent I spoke to said it would be covered under auto, then changed her mind and said home owners but only if the loss was sustained while the Jeep was parked at my residence.
    I've since been told by them (and have it in an email) that the homeowners policy would cover it anywhere in the world....but still, as I research online there definitely is a lack of understanding and general confusion with insurance companies as to what a RTT is and how it should be covered.
    I even found a post of a guy that bought coverage (at progressive) and was told the RTT would be covered and then some months later when someone sawed it and the rack it was attached to off and stole it he was told it wasn't covered because it wasn't a permanently installed vehicle accessory.
    If you decide to investigate (even with your own insurance company or companies) make sure you ask someone to contact the underwriters and have them give you something in writing. It seemed crazy the amount of confusion I found as I pressed for answers on coverages. 😅
    Anyway, might give you something to do while you're hunkered down with the Covid thing. 😂
    Cheers!
    - dmulk

      Hey Dan - That’s a great idea. I actually just finished the process with my auto insurance carrier to add some additional coverage to the Jeep for a lot of my aftermarket parts. It was an exhausting process that took about 30 days. But I did learn a lot about the process that would definitely be helpful to anyone thinking about adding some addl coverages to their existing policy.

    Great looking rig! Am in the process of dropping down from our Mickey Thompson 38" x 20" Baja's to 17's. Question for you, your HAM portables, do you re-program each trip if out of your region / state? If no, are you able to receive local communications, weather & emergency? I am in the process of setting up ours currently. My ham portables arrived on Thursday will program thru CHIRP this coming week and certification whenever things start up again...look forward to you imput thank you! Good stuff, love the build. Do you have any regrets on going with the Rhino Rack over something like a Front Runner or other full length racks now that you have the larger iKamper? I'm on the fence on racks for my JL and keep flip-flopping between being able to still take the top off vs the extra space up top for stuff like the traction boards or whatever.

    • @395jnky
      @395jnky  4 роки тому

      Hi rtisor - Thanks for watching and the comment. That’s a good question. If I were to do it all over again I probably would go with the Rhino Rack. If I had a smaller RTT perhaps I would see the benefits of a longer rack for firewood, etc, etc. But even with a longer rack like Front Runner I don’t think there would be enough room to be able to use it as storage with the iKamper.

    • @395jnky
      @395jnky  3 роки тому +1

      I just added axel sleeves in the front and rear. Depending on the size tires and the type of wheeling you're doing will depend if you need an axel upgrade. But you really need to be running 37"+ tires and lots of rock crawling before I would suggest upgrading past a D44. Thanks for the comment. Take care!
