First of thanks for reacting to the video man, it was super cool!
And secondly the messed up guy you saw there wasn't a witch doctor he's what you call a Tech Priest of Mars. The reason he looks like that is essentially because before 40k, humanity used to be a galactic juggernaut between the 15k to 25k ish periods. Very few species in the galaxy could touch us when we first began to expand due to our technological advancements and just pure might. And a large proportion of this power came from our use of A.I., and eventually this same A.I. turned on us, terminator style but on a galactic scale. A war the likes of humanity had never seen before was fought and man was it brutal. Hundreds of billions died, worlds were killed and stars were blown up to wipe out entire planetary systems. Eventually humanity came out of it on top, but just barely and the entire species now bore a sense of trauma from the whole event.
This is where 40k comes in. In the Imperium A.I. isn't known as "Artificial Intelligence", they call it *Abominable* Intelligence and any tech priest who's found trying to make A.I. is usually ended on the spot. Now, you can't be a star spanning Empire without robotics doing things, humans can't do everything and it's just not practical to expect us to. Thus, humans started to worship machinery and augmented themselves with said machinery. Their machine god is known as the "Omnissiah" and it works through the machine spirit you hear him mention at 7:09. The reason they're blessing the armour is because they believe that to do so "appeases" the spirit and it will make the equipment function better.
So through the species wide trauma resulting from the war fought for our very survival, came the Tech Priests of Mars you see before you today. An interesting but sad tale indeed.

Thank you so much for your comment and sharing this. I need to stop believing that I've heard the most epic thing about Warhammer. It seams like every day or at least every time I post something related to this universe you/someone comment something mind blowing!
I'm just falling in love with this universe, and it's just surpassing every other universe I've gotten to know so far in life. The brutality, epicness, struggle is just so interesting. Creatures and "people" are just so thought out. You look left, there is something cool, your look right there is something cool. Wow, thank you so much!
It's also so relatable to where we are in the world now, and what COULD be our future 😱

Awesome reaction, and that was armouring ritual of just ONE space marine, in the time of Great Crusade each of 20 (18) legions was somewhat between 100-250k of space marines, Ultramarines (biggest one) had like 250k marines + 500 worlds under their administration where they were building their might, fleets and auxilia forces (regular mortal men with good gear and hard training/tactics/competent commanders etc). For example their fortress world of Armatura had a BILLION of guardsmen garrisoning the planet.
Could you imagine the SCALE of total war that happening in 40k?)
There is an amazing cinematic for you to react next: ua-cam.com/video/l7U93YjucD0/v-deo.html - part one of the infamous battle for Vraks (basically Massacre of Verden from World War I in space) - there you see the famous death world of Krieg (which mean WAR in German language) - basically the Kamino from Star Wars but in 40k and the true SCALES of 40k armies/might.
    ua-cam.com/video/FhULhHCk_D8/v-deo.html
    ua-cam.com/video/7jcuYA714Jw/v-deo.html
And here are a Horus Heresy amazing fan cinematics for you. Remembered I said "Armature world with billion of guardsmen"? THAT is the battle in which traitours World Eaters and Word Bearers legions decimated a good portion of 500 worlds of Ultramarines mini-empire in the Shadow Crusade (to secure that Ultramarines won't be in time to the Siege of Terra final battle of Heresy.
40k lore is SO amazing, I just can't wait to see what our boy Henry Cavill could do as the show-runner and with Amazon's money (hope that it isn't a news to you - Amazong is filming 40k cinematographic universe with HENRY CAVILL as a head of the project).

I'll give a basic easy rundown on Warhammer gear
The main rifles are bolters the ammunition are as big as your hands and they're basically mini rockets
The combat knife is almost as big as your arm
Meltas are just heavy laser guns
Plasma guns are just plasma hit like trucks tho
Also those floating skulls are Mechanicus monks they live in those skulls as "Servitors" and tend to be like secretaries or basic workers
For some reason most of the armor in the 40k universe need to link your senses despite being detrimental because what if the armor dies but you're fine
Marines who are gravely injured or crippled become Dreadnoughts giant coffin mechs that can of course the armor feels sadly they're spent in stasis unless needed in battle

    >> The longest was like 700 years
Lord Commander Dante, Chapter Master of the Blood Angels chapter, Lord-regent of Imperium Nihilus (etc etc) has a 1540 years of active service (1100 years of which as a Chapter Master of the legendary Blood Angels - proud sons of their angelic primarch Sanguinius).
He is the oldest non dreadnaught (Bjorn the Fell-Handed of the Space Wolves chapter is 10k+ years old and was fighting alongside the Emperor of Mankind Himself in some of battles, but he sleep like 95-99% of his time in stasis or whatever) space marine in the Imperium. A LOT of chaos space marines are the veterans of Long War and the fought with Horus during his infamous Heresy in 30k and a lot of them even take part in the legendary Siege of Terra - the pinakle of Heresy and almost a triumph of the Ruinous Powers.
But Dante start to age, under his father death mask (yes, he wear his father/primarch last scream face as his war FACE in battle). His wounds don't heal like they should and he become a really old wrinkled and gray-haired man, but he successfully passed the Rubicon Primaris and become a reborn Primaris space marine, and a fresh once again)

The armor may look bulky, but lorewise it is meant to make the Space Marine much faster, stronger, and enduring than he already is. They might as well be moving normally with their own body; a body that acts before their mind could even think which is very helpful in any combat scenario.
It also makes them harder to kill than they already are. And i mean that by the largest margin as even without the armor, they are immune to all forms of small arms fire, fight for years without sleeping, eliminate pain receptors by choice, and so much more.
They are less human and more monsters in the face of their enemies while angels to those who have the opportunity to serve under them.

      @@OleHerland Yes.
Their gene-seed implants that allow this this include a growth hormone that increases the size and durability of their skeletal system, a growth hormone for their muscles that increases strength and density, and an organ that makes their blood clot in seconds even if it meant torn limbs.
So anything smaller than a .50 call barrage will not kill a butt naked space marine. Though you'll hardly ever face off a Space Marine without his armor. By then, the only thing in your disposal as a regular human rebel that could kill him would either be an armor penetrating rocket, a ton of high explosives (if you manage to outsmart him), or tanks - yes. Tanks plural because unless you get a direct shot to the chest, a regular Space Marine can survive a tank shot so you're definitely need more than one.

They are the good guys... if you're loyal to the Imperium. Also creepy is a strong word, compare it to other races of the 40k Universe and you will find that they are the closest to normal that you'll get in this environment. The Chaos Demons are also the good guys by the way... if you choose to side with Chaos. I'll think my point has become clear: Good and Bad are a matter of perspective. This counts especially for the grim darkness of this far future.
