We still don’t have the answer to the great packing debate about whether it’s better to fold or roll your clothes. But we can tell you that folding is faster while rolling makes your clothes more compact (meaning you can pack more). If you’re trying to avoid wrinkles, try bundle rolls or garment folders.

Do you roll or fold your clothes when packing? 🤔🤔
Roll, so much more compact.
I do both. I lay my jeans or pants flat then roll the rest.
Depends on the item, most of it is rolled but there are bulkier items that I fold/lay flat on top
I do folding and then i fold/roll in half kind of like a taco that way they can all line up neatly (like standing) in my packing cube
Mix of both, whatever method that gets them into a packing cube with least amount of wasted space.
In lockdown and watching travel-orientated videos for the torture value. WWAAAAAHHHHHH!
I did the same. I travelled to 8 countries since lockdown was over. Now I'm broke and watching these videos again for torture
I’m a flight attendant and I one bag carry when not working. I roll my clothes and I swear by compression packing cubes. I love the organization and the space saving features. You get a lot more space for the buck with them. Just know that the more stuff you bring, the more weight you deal with. I go with neutral’ish clothing to mix and match different articles to stretch out outfits over longer trips. Multiuse articles are also a gain changer.
Great tips! We love hearing from crew members. Thanks!

i read this in Kaley Cuoco's voice.
I lean/lay against the wall with my plastic compression sacks - easy to get the air out that way. The 1 gallon Ziploc bags also work well for socks. Just know that your bag will be extra dense using these. While they compress the space - they don't reduce the weight. A challenge for budget airlines.
As a diehard one-bag traveler, I love your tips and videos! It would be great to see a video on how to pack light for two totally different locations in one trip. I'm planning an Everest Base Camp trek with a stopover in steamy Singapore for next year. Yikes! A lot of stuff for one small bag. I'm still working on it... ☺️
Hey Christina! Thanks for the suggestion. I'll pass it along to the team. Your trip sounds amazing. Have a great time!

I will add in on your tips. I bring black and grey climbing pants and then buy primary coloured shirts or shirts with a little pattern. Goes with any pants but adds a little colour.
im interested in climbing pants as a travel option because of durability, but havent found a brand/style that transfers well to city tours without looking out of place. any recommendations?
@@mjs2402 I wear the arcteryx konseal pant. Good durability, a bit of stretch but slimmer than other climbing oriented pants.
I *have* to try the zip locks as packing cubes! It seems like the best money-saving alternative!
Great tips! Huge fan of packing cubes. I tell everyone to use them and often give them as gifts! I also tell everyone who will listen to PACK LIGHT!
Back in the day (read: before my conversion to traveling light), my family of then 7 (kids aged 11mos-7yrs) spent 17 days in Italy. I felt pretty good about our five suitcases, lol. The smartest thing we did was pack an outfit a day for each child in a ziploc bag. That helped us to stay organized and keep track of all those little socks, lol!
Love this and what you guys do. Great tips 🤙
Put a dryer sheet in with your clothes in space bags to keep them smelling fresh.
This guys amazing and amazing information. Who knew you could look on You Tube and figure out how to pack that new backpack. Thank you!
Thanks for your kind words, Harry! 😃 We’ll see you in the next one.

Very beautiful
I needed this video a decade ago! I'm terrible at minimalist packing, learned so much from your channel. This video helps. TFS
Glad it was helpful!
- Austin
I am a "pack less", work in progress with each successive trip. 😁
🤜💥🤛
I love the burrito idea. Gotta try it if I ever travel again.
Damn, Tom looking fit in this video.
As Michael said “Keep it simple stupid” 👍 a quote one should live by
Great advice, hurts my feelings every time!
Good timing I need this.
Be aware that if you are traveling to Africa, a number of countries (like Kenya and Tanzania) have outlawed plastic bags, including ziplock plastic bags. Occasionally some checkpoints will let you through with ziplock bags if they believe you will not be leaving them in the country. However, you can’t really count on that and the fines are fairly hefty.
Thanks for sharing, Kathryn!
-Eric
Thank you these different methods are helping me with my clothing
Glad it was helpful, Srah!

this video is gold
Thanks for the support!
the greatest pro tip is to go somewhere with good weather and not that conservative with attire :P for ladies that means more tank tops, shorts, lightweight dresses. more loose clothing that compresses super easily
I prefer rolling clothes, especially tops that wrinkle easily, maybe it's just the way I ranger roll so I don't get much wrinkles, and a proper packing cube can prevent it getting more wrinkly. If you smoothen your shirts before a tight ranger roll you can even reduce the wrinkles if you have to put them in a vacuum bag. I would fold trousers flat, and socks I would put one in the other and then flatten it, like how you got it when you first bought it, I see rolling and making it into a ball takes up more space in my packing cube than just laying them flat. Even if I fill them in shoes, flat way still makes it easier to fit and I can fit more in the same space.
Great tips! Thanks for sharing!

Flying to my cousin's wedding in October, and I FINALLY was able to get some packing cubes for myself. I'm so excited because I plan on only using my backpack as a suitcase, so the packing cubes will be super helpful.
Where did you get your watch at the start of the video?
Good video
Thanks!
I learned up carry a small diy fabric spray with me to spray items in between wears.
@The Time is Now you can do it a few ways. A combo of distilled waster & baking soda with an essential oil if you want. I prefer distilled water with vinegar and citrus essential oil. I've seen recipes that use rubbing alcohol. Up to you.
What's that wristband/fitness band you have got on your wrist, Tom?
What is the watch that he is wearing?
Could you do a video on Women's clothing travel?
Hi Jillian! I've passed your request along to the team. Thanks for the comment!

I try to stay at places that have laundry access so I can pack a few outfits and do one large load of laundry in the middle of my trip.
It's always nice when you can do a load of laundry mid-trip. Thanks for watching!
- Austin
please make video of packing luggage and trolley bags . suitcase too.
Thanks for the suggestion! 😃 I’ll pass it along.

Anyone knows what is that backpack with Pals/Molle lashing?
Can anyone recommend packing cubes with this backpack? I'm fairly new to the game and not sure if all packing cubes, regardless of brand, come standard in sizes.
awesome video. I'm a big fan of the konmari and rolling methods. One thing though, in Japan we have similar plastic bags for packing, but they're supposed to be used with a vacuum (cleaning machine). Trying to push all the air out with your hands sounds very hard... it's like 10 seconds with a vacuum. Some even come with a special built-in vacuum socket. And you're supposed to put your clothes in immediately after they have been washed and fully dried, so they don't get mushy or affected by humidity, etc in case you decide to keep your clothes in the bag for a long time (like organizing your closet for summer, packing only your winter clothes separately for a while).
I'd be very interested in any good method to keep wet (after exercise) clothes when they don't have time to dry up. Or at least any advice on what to do so it doesn't smell... if anyone has any good advice.
Thanks for sharing all of this information 😃
-Eric
@@PackHacker ahaha. Sorry, now that I've watched many more of your wonderful vids I realize you probably chose this because you want to be able to do it without a cleaning machine, traveling light. I'm still interested in how to pack damp clothes if you guys have any advice ;) I'd prefer not to have my underwear hanging outside my bag walking around the city...
I close the ziploc bags 98% - then push out all the air and finish closing all the way.
literally got a flight tomorrow with only 1 personal item allowed XD
You can do it! Hope the video helps!

i'm from morocco and i have always wanted to travel around the world, if only there is a way ?
What is that Osprey bag at 7:51??
Osprey arcane duffel I believe
In the shoe fits portion of this video, you show a greenish/gray backpack. what brand is it?
Hi Cindy! It looks like the Osprey Arcane Duffel. Check out the gear review section on the pack hacker website
Great spot Helen! Here's the link Cindy.

Thank you for asking, I was wondering the same thing!
Can y'all review The Northface Borealis Mini?
Hey Yeonjunnie! I passed along your suggestion to our editorial staff. Thanks for the comment!

I’m getting better at packing light but find shoes especially challenging as my trips usually involve a good bit of hiking where I prefer boots, and some social events where I have be less …er… outdoorsy. I know one solution is to wear the boots on the plane but ugh … how do others solve this problem?
I've started wearing hiking sandals with surprising success. Wore out a couple pairs of Teva Hurricanes then went to the Xero Z-Trail. The Xero's didn't last longer but they are much lighter and easier to pack. They also double as shower shoes, hanging around the pool shoes, going to lunch with shorts on shoes, etc.
@@fixerofthings oh when I discovered Xero boots it was godsend! Much lighter than my Oboz. I have not tried their hiking sandals but could be easily tempted at this point.
Hey s00nami!
The Lems Boulder Boot could be a good option but hiking performance might be less that you're used to. They also look good around town. Check out our review here: packhacker.com/travel-gear/lems/boulder-boot/

How much price
@9:40 what kind of pants are those? I can only find chinos and Jeans. I never find "travel pants" or whatever that is
Outlier Slim Dungarees! packhacker.com/travel-gear/outlier/slim-dungarees/
Which brand are the sandals in the video?
Hey Rafael! Those are Earth Runners. You can find more info here: packhacker.com/travel-gear/earth-runners/elemental-sandals/

Ziplocs are great! I use them for just about everything. I'm going to try your idea of reinforcing the edges with duct tape. That might get me several more uses out of them. I use the heavy duty ones and they hold up pretty well. But by the end of the trip, they're usually just about done for.
I saw a garment bag a few years ago that rolled up. According to the advertisement, you could lay your clothes out mostly flat, zip up the bag, and then roll it up like a sleeping bag. I can't remember what it was called though. Have you guys seen anything similar? And if so, does it work well?
Hey Kota! Thanks for the comment. We haven't come across a garment bag like that yet but it sounds intriguing!
Nice video! Great tips.
Anyone know what those grey pants are?
Can you share a time stamp?
-Eric
Yes, roll and fold, pack more, lol
You've earned a subscriber. Wish I had known this before. Great channel
Thanks for the support! 😃
Going to have to try that bundling method 🤔
KISS: pants, dress shirts, or jumpers get folded flat and stacked; t-shirts (short- and long-sleeved), and underwear get rolled; rain jacket gets folded into the hood. Fertig.
easiest way to get the most air out of a ziplock back is to roll it, seal it when its rolled then unroll it flat
ikea currently has shoe bags for less than $1
We’ve got a few on hand 😃 Thanks for sharing!
-Eric
I watch this because i miss travelling.. 😭
We're right there with you, Ara! Thanks for the comment.
- Austin
Folding in half and folding again would be quarters, not thirds :D
Fold. I don't want to look like I came out of the dryer
Hi, really enjoy your various articles and videos. However, could you do a video where you travel without ‘scruffy’ T shirt but where you take (in)formal shirts and clothes for those viewers over 30? Keep Going though as your tips and content provides great food for thought.
I don't really find this to be the case for this channel. They definitely folded in a few long sleeve dress shirts and dress pants in this video.
Packing cubes make no sense to me
