Just used packing cubes for the first time over a three month period. My wife thought it was a waste of money. So I divided my warm and cold weather clothes, the cold went into the compression cubes. It was easy to locate clothes for daily usage, often it was not necessary to open my checked bag. Great trip and will always be using cubes in the future. PS...My wife wants a set now.
I'm too cheap to pay for compression packing cubes so I get 2-gallon zip lock bags. Roll my clothes and then press out all the air. Works just as well and great for dirty or wet clothes
@@yaowsers77 I have done this too. The one problem I ran into was the slipperiness of the bags, which was annoying as they wouldn’t stay put when on the bed/table & would slide onto the floor. 😅
If you're not willing to pay for compression cubes, 2-gallon zip lock bags are also a great option. Good for dirty or wet clothes. Use gallon size ones for undies and socks etc
I have been using packing cubes since they came out! Just love them! One big benefit I recently found was when my suitcase broke (came apart while being handled by the airline) was because everything was in packing cubes, nothing was lost. They bagged up everything including the suitcase and nothing was missing. The only damaged was a pair of shoes that was NOT in a packing cube.
Bought different colored packing cubes for each person in my daughter's family last Christmas, planning for an Alaskan cruise. She started using them for weekend road trips...each person packs a cube and they all go together in one suitcase. Easy to find each individual person 's stuff. Bought compression cubes for myself earlier this year to go along with my regular cubes. What a neat suitcase! Just have to be careful of the weigh because I can fit in so much.
I use compression packing cubes. One thing i do find is that depending on the items i pack, the compression cube is thicker in the middle and thinner on the edges. I adjust it by rolling smaller items and placing them closer to the zippered edge. So when I compress the cube, it will be a lot more uniformly flat and not bulge in the middle...if that makes sense. I have brought just a carry on and a personal item with me for a 14 day trip using compression cubes. (FYI, I had to pack a suit jacket, trousers, skirt, 3 blouses, and dress shoes for my work. And then the casual stuff for my off time.) My colleague was impressed at how much I could get in my carry on! (Thanks, Megan for suggesting the Kon Mari method and army method of 'folding'. I will try that next trip!) Love your content!
So I understand it fully, you essentially roll clothes around the outside creating a boarder and fold the stuff in the centre? This then creates an even compressible layer?
I do most of the things in this video depending on the circumstances. The biggest problem I have with packing cubes and vacuum bags is keeping the weight in limits if I'm checking a bag. With carry on bags the restriction is size more than weight. In either case i like a vacuum bag for dirty clothes, you don't have to worry so much about folding/rolling them and there's no odor/soil contamination. One other trick for souvenirs is to pack and ship them home. I'll actually use some of our dirty clothes as packing to protect the fragile stuff. We have found that shipping is a third to half as expensive as overweight fees or extra checked bag fees. Not sure how well that would work traveling abroad but in the states it is a great hack.
My boyfriend travels a lot for work and he has shipped things instead of paying an extra baggage fee (he will usually check with the hotel that they will let him have a package sent there. He does it with his golf clubs. He just takes them to Fed ex the day before he flys and asks for two day shipping to the hotel and then ships them back the day before or morning of (if he has an evening flight) to his home.
I’ve been using packing cubes for several years now. I can’t imagine packing without them! Loved the Tripped brand too. Their cosmetic bag is a real game changer!
I use both types of cubes, along with the waterproof bag you showed to house my neck pillow. I love that I don't have to put my clothes directly in the dresser drawers. I just pull out my cubes and place them in. So much easier!
I have never seen compression packaging cubes before. Very cool! And a nicely done video. My problem, for longer overseas trips, has always been being under the 50-pound weight limit, at least on the return flights. Souvenirs, you know!
The Ranger Roll is my go-to for packing. I one-up it by placing my knickers and socks on top of the t-shirt I'm rolling and then I roll it all together. Boom! Instant outfit for the day - socks, knickers, and a t-shirt. No need to rummage around for your undergarments.
I pack my stuff in the "vacuum compression bags". I squeeze out all of the air & the bag maintains an air-tight seal. For the small (travel sized) ones, you don't need to hook it up to a vacuum cleaner, you can just roll them to force out the air.
LOVE packing cubes & I’ve been using the compression type for several years. I do make certain to keep weighing my suitcase because I could easily overpack w/the extra space I’ve gained from the cubes. 😄
I think my next trip I will certainly change the way I pack thanks to you Megan. I also saved to my wish list on Amazon the cubes you suggested and I really feel packing is now an art and I understand it, again thanks to you !!! Love your ideas and you make a fine teacher with the skills you have for travel. Much appreciated !!!!
This video was so informative, I wish it was out when I was researching compression cubes a couple of years ago. I love compression cubes! I’m going to watch your video on the army roll now, I’m excited!
Since I travel for cruises quite often, I tend to mostly sort cubes by type of clothing, but I also have a few others. If I'm only staying overnight before boarding, I keep a cube for embarkation day. That way I only have to unpack two cubes when I arrive (nightwear and embarkation day). Oh, and I'll keep swimwear items in that embarkation day cube so I can carry it on the ship with me (as three things are generally open for the first several hours; the bars, the buffet, and the pools). For my upcoming trip to Sydney for a cruise, I'll have a second one, as I like to tour places I've never been before and arrive a few days early.
My way of dealing with laundry is to roll each item before putting it in the plastic laundry bag (that you get in the hotel or bring yourself). I put the bag in an empty compression cube, compress and that solves space and smell.
The way your dog looked up at you… “Girl, what are you doing?” I choked on my cracker!!! 😝 Yes, I just got my packing cubes yesterday. 👏🏽👏🏽 My Amazon orders have been OFF THE CHART for me!!! 🤦🏽♀️ Thanks to you and a few others, I’m learning a lot, even though I knew a lot, it’s still my first time out of the country. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Love packing cubes. I will combine things, like one cube will have swimming suits, coverups, sun tan lotion, chair clips, second pair of sunglasses, etc. That way everything for the pool (on a cruise) is in one place. With limited space on cruise ships, packing cubes brilliant as like you mentioned, just put in the drawer or shelf, unzip, and there is everything at a glance. It used to take me over 1 hr to unpack on a cruise ship, now I can complete in less than 15 minutes.
I’m so glad to see that Tripped came out with neutral colors and patterns! I avoided them because I didn’t like their busy designs and colors. Thank you for mentioning the different reasons why you might want to use solid or mesh bags. Do you think you can create an Amazon store with all your favorite items? I’m new to your channel and love all your advice!
10:00 Ok I travel every other month and have for almost 8 years now. I keep one local travel and one flight travel clear foldable box in closet. Everything I normally use, bathroom stuff goes in them. They are already in travel cases. I simply pull out appropriate box, toss the bag into suitcase. When I fly home and while I'm unpacking my suitcase, I simply refill anything I have used and put away. I do this with my flight backpack also. My clear in flight must haves like headphones stay in front pocket. I have a 3--2-1 rule. Day 3 before flight I pull my bags down . Charge rechargeable batteries I may need and charge my headset and pull my clothing. Day 2 I inspect my clothing and narrow down what I don't need. I keep dryer sheets in different compartments of my bag so it doesn't smell when I open it. Day 1 before flight I finalize anything in suitcase. Then I'm not stressed on day of flying!
P.S. Sri Lanka - I was there in 2017 - and, just for information for anyone contemplating a visit - those mountains you see have very curvy roads and i suffered severely from motion sickness. (Bus trip) I had to skip the day trip from the beach up to a tea plantation.
Love Sri Lanks, but yikes, you are so right! Those roads are awful for motion sickness. We drove them in a tuktuk in 2018 which was a HORRIBLE idea for both comfort and safety. Hope you enjoyed the trip otherwise!
I probably should start usin them. I sort of do something similar, but with ziplock bags (which serve dual purpose. I can put dirty clothes in them and seal them up and compress them but you can buy a box of them -- like 100 gallon sized) for $10 here in the US). The nice thing is they are disposable if they get damaged or otherwise smell, etc. Although iwill try to reuse them if possible. But obviously a gallon sized ziplock is only so big and only good for a few pairs of socks and/or underwear. I will probably pick up a set for my next long trip (for shorter trips I probably won't bother or I'll just use one or two as my shorter trips generally are only 3-4 days tops). i guess I do use small packing cubes (as I do have a small cheap set I bought, but these are mainly mesh) and use them primarily for things like electronics or wires as mentioned and it's nice to have them because I used to just put all the cables into a pocket and the ywould get tangled up so now Ikeep them banded together in a small cube. I also have one that's an emergency toiletries kit (which includes a small tube of toothpaste, a small bar of soap, some shampoo I got from a hotel, and a small toothbrush, all of which I just keep in my carry-on bag and a second in my larger checked bag just in case so i don't forget, as I found that I tend to forget some of the essentials when packing -- especially for trips that might be short notice).
I pack my bulkiest clothes in a small rectangular basin, it compresses the item and at the same time also serves as a basin for doing the laundry for 2 weeks vacation 😄
How about small vacuum pack bags? Yeah, they'd be wrinkled, but just unpack, hang & spray with the wrinkle releaser as soon as you get to ur destination. Also, you can hang them in the bathroom to get steamed when you shower. Most Air B&B's and hotels offer irons & boards.
I never used one.. i fold and put in pillow cases for this use only ...and helped me alot ... shoes i put in clothes fabric bags i already have from stores ...so i dont waste my money...i save a lot of money by using smart ways in electricity.. water .... bills etc People do not waste your money keep it for future .
Better than the army roll is the variation on the Kon Mari method where one creates a pocket for the rest of the fabric to go into. Easy to stack vertically and also the item stays folded even if you toss it from one place to another - best of both worlds (Kon Mari and Army/Ranger roll)

Hi Megan, as always, great video! As an infrequent traveler, I never saw the ‘need’ for packing cubes BUT after watching this video, I’m sold, for all the reasons you pointed out, especially after seeing you just pop them into the suitcase and go! I haven’t looked yet, but I’m assuming you can buy a set based on the size of the suitcase. So, I will be shopping, soon! And I will be watching the video on the Army roll. Thanks 🤗
Small packing cubes are great in your backpack for everyday or short trips. It's easy to store: extra sweater/ shirt etc.., eye glass cases (so they don't rattle around, or any small items.
I love compression packing cubes but it creates one problem for me. When having to do a checked suitcase I think I can pack more then causing me to go over weight.
Packing compression cubes are the best solution if you don’t have to weight your carryon. And in many world’s airports the weigh allowed is maximum 8 kgs.
Totally understand, they are tougher to get at in a backpack. I still find them super helpful to compress if I am just traveling with a personal item and need the extra packing space. Not great for organization in a backpack though 😅
Unfortunately the clam opening is only available in the Weekender style. I tried packing cubes one year and hated it my mind did open back up to them until you placed them in drawer.
I love packing cubes but HATE the compression ones as I have to tug and pull to compress them and it’s tough on the fingers and hands. Just not a fan of them AT ALL
It might be nice for categorizing an organizing but the compression part is a freaking joke it didn't save me any space it was the same amount of space
It doesn’t matter how you pack, whether you fold or roll. It even doesn’t matter if it’s well organized or not, what matter is the WEIGHT of the baggage.

Love Tripped cube set. I use a different color set for each member of the family- makes it easy to find everyone’s clothes in the hotel room.

I don’t find them quite as user friendly but definitely an option!
@@PortableProfessional haha I find the real compression cubes don't hold quite as much clothes for those of us plus-sized travelers 😁
I do use compression baggies! I check my baggage, but take my pillow everywhere so I compress it!

I’ve been using packing cubes for about 10 years now and it’s been a total game changer. I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere without them.
I totally agree! Happy travels!
Packing Cubes rule!!! I love using them on every trip I take. They are a game changer
Absolutely!! Total game-changers.
For sure! It definitely is. I can’t believe that a year ago I never was doing this!

I wish international shipping to Canada was cheaper.
If you ever fly international, pay attention that there is a weight limit for carry-on luggage - usually 7kg, occasionally 8kg and sometimes less.

Packing cubes are wonderful. Easier to find what I need!
I totally agree!
Use the clam-shell type always. While packing, close one zip partly so that it becomes a half-zip style cube.
I’ve been using packing cubes for years and just recently started to try compression cubes.
Nice, hope they have been working well for you!
Loved this video. I use packing cubes all the time in travel. Your dog is cute too.
Awesome! Thank you! Ollie sends you a tail wag!
I never used one.. i fold and put in pillow cases for this use only ...and helped me alot ... shoes i put in clothes fabric bags i already have from stores ...so i dont waste my money...i save a lot of money by using smart ways in electricity.. water .... bills etc
People do not waste your money keep it for future .
I enjoy having bags upon bags in my luggage 🙂
plus, they can protect against moisture and getting roughed up.
Definitely started using packing cubes on my trip to Alaska! Cool in the evening and water c!others for Salmon fishing. Bravo! Thanks!😎🚲🚝🎣🛫
Super to hear! I haven't been to Alaska yet, but wow, that sounds like quite the trip!
I love your
Common sense approach you are a beauty ! Thanks for sharing! You rock!
This is one of the best videos ever! Thank you!
Better than the army roll is the variation on the Kon Mari method where one creates a pocket for the rest of the fabric to go into. Easy to stack vertically and also the item stays folded even if you toss it from one place to another - best of both worlds (Kon Mari and Army/Ranger roll)
2 questions:
Do you wash your packing cubes?
How do you army roll without over stretching elastic or stretchy fabrics? Everything but my jeans seem to get stretched out.
I just ordered some packing cube I’m so excited!
That's great! Have fun packing and enjoy your trip! Thanks for watching!
I love and use compression packing cubes.
You're dog is so cute! Watching you fold the shirt!
He's a sweetheart! Always loves his moments on camera!
I love packing cubes and the compression ones are the best 👌
Yes they are! Thanks for watching!
I've been konmari style folding in packing cubes. Can see all the clothes at once and keep them corralled.
That's exactly how I pack, too, konmari &packing cubes. It's also easier to see if you missed packing something.
Hi, Does the cubes that come in the "Large Packing Cube Set with See Through Mesh" open all the way? Thanks for a great helpful video.
Good idea with the cubes but at the same time, they take up space too, if you folded them altogether you could fit a few more t shirts in?
I love doing carry on only whenever possible, having had our checked luggage lost or delayed a number of times in the past. I love compression cubes too… my biggest challenge is to keep the weight down,
especially when using a backpack. So when I pack I will always choose lightweight clothing, accessories and shoes…
I agree! Weight can be bigger problem than space when flying carry on only!
love your videos- so clear and informative!
LOVE my Tripped compression cubes!!
Aren’t they great!
I love my tripped compression cubes❤
I am Team Cube! Work great.
Great to hear!
Wonderful tips and techniques!
Glad you enjoyed it!

You are very welcome, Ricardo!
Great video. The dog 😀
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed watching!

Yes, Eagle Creek.
Those are great too! Awesome brand.
I love compression packing cubes but it creates one problem for me. When having to do a checked suitcase I think I can pack more then causing me to go over weight.
Love the cubes!
So do I! Thanks for watching, Kathleen!
Mesh packing cubes also give you a laundry bag for bras and small items.
I love packing cubes
So do I! They really help me keep things organized!
Hello, in the ranger roll method, doesn't the hemline of the t-shirt get looser? or does that depend on how long you keep them packed?
Also I love to Army Roll my clothes too! It’s way better then folding them
Right?! It's so fun and so practical.
I know right! It’s so much fun and so practical.
Packing Cubes are also washable and dry wrinkle free on delicate cycle in case I put worn clothes in them at end of trip .
Lol! I have never been able to close a compression cube easily like this video. Too much in bags i guess😅
Yes I love the the idea of not having to unpack. I can just put bag in the dresser.
Ditto! Saves so much time, especially when on a trip where you move locations. Safe travels and thanks for sharing!
Do the packing cubes wrinkle your clothes?
Packing compression cubes are the best solution if you don’t have to weight your carryon. And in many world’s airports the weigh allowed is maximum 8 kgs.
True! Extra space means extra weight, but I do like the way they keep things organized also!
I have trouble using packing cubes for my backpack. I think they’re only good for suitcase and luggage.
Totally understand, they are tougher to get at in a backpack. I still find them super helpful to compress if I am just traveling with a personal item and need the extra packing space. Not great for organization in a backpack though 😅
Love them❤
I bring a few gallon ziplock bags for my dirty laundry. They compress and keep any unwanted odors in them. 😉
Great idea!! Happy travels!
Unfortunately the clam opening is only available in the Weekender style. I tried packing cubes one year and hated it my mind did open back up to them until you placed them in drawer.
or buy Solgaard?
I much prefer vacuum storage bags.
Thanks for watching!

WAIT, the links are working, i thought the links were taken of yt 😅❤
I love packing cubes but HATE the compression ones as I have to tug and pull to compress them and it’s tough on the fingers and hands. Just not a fan of them AT ALL
Perhaps you are putting a bit too much in. I never find it that difficult to.
😊
I just use Ziploc bags.
I really don’t get the packing cubes. I roll all my clothes and bring wrinkle release.
I always pack my clothes in cubes.
Don't fold and don't roll... Here are the two best methods:
1. A variation on folding
2. A variation on rolling!!
🤯🤯
It might be nice for categorizing an organizing but the compression part is a freaking joke it didn't save me any space it was the same amount of space
Completely unrelated but we have doodle twinsies 😀
you never said if these bags were washable...especially after using it for dirty laundry
My packing cubes are washable.
It doesn’t matter how you pack, whether you fold or roll. It even doesn’t matter if it’s well organized or not, what matter is the WEIGHT of the baggage.
That would be the REAL trick 😎
Do people really put their clothing in hotel drawers?
