Just revisited this game a bit ago with a buddy. He never heard of it before. He liked it but wasn't too impressed. That was until the end. Sonic turns Super, Perfect Chaos's name appears on screen accompanied by this song. It got a "woah" out of him. You better believe before the scene I told him to "Crank the volume, trust me."

Since this comment was posted on December 23, 2020, the initial Japanese release date of _Sonic Adventure,_ here's a little fact I know about the game. The events leading up to _Sonic Adventure_ were actually hinted at in the Japanese manuals of the _Sonic_ games that came before _Sonic Adventure._ First, the manual for _Sonic the Hedgehog_ states that the Chaos Emeralds give energy to all living beings but they can also be used for nuclear or high energy laser weapons thanks to science and technology. The manual for _Sonic the Hedgehog 2_ indicates that there was an ancient civilization that tried to abuse the Chaos Emeralds and were wiped out by a god overnight. The manual for _Sonic the Hedgehog 3_ expanded upon the lore of the ancient civilization while also showing that Knuckles believed the Death Egg is the egg of a legendary dragon that wiped out the civilization. You can tell that elements from the manuals were referenced in _Sonic Adventure;_ the idea that the Chaos Emeralds can be used for laser weapons was brought back into _Sonic Adventure 2,_ the civilization mentioned in _Sonic the Hedgehog 2_ turns out to be the Knuckles Clan and were wiped out by Chaos, and the legendary dragon that was mentioned in _Sonic the Hedgehog 3_ turns out to be Perfect Chaos, while the dragon's egg turned out to not be the Death Egg, but presumably Chaos' egg, since he was a Chao and Chao hatch from eggs. Finally, one honorary mention goes out to a Japanese strategy guide for _Sonic Adventure,_ which mentions that while Dr. Eggman was building the Final Egg in the Mystic Ruins, he stumbled upon a stone tablet which he learned about the existence of Chaos, leading him to start the events of _Sonic Adventure._ Sadly, all of these details in the manuals were lost in localization when the games were brought to the U.S.. That means people believed Sonic never talked (That was due to technology limits, _Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car_ was the first game in the _Sonic_ series that had voice acting, and Sonic did have a voice in commercials.), the games had no story (technology was limited so there were no cutscenes, leading to the story having to be told in manuals), people feeling that the transition to _Sonic Adventure_ felt like a western animation transitioning to an anime (The _Sonic the Hedgehog_ series borrowed a lot more elements from Shōnen anime than Western cartoons), the idea that the series is divided between a "Classic" and "Modern" series (Japanese dialogue in _Sonic Adventure_ indicates that events from previous games such as _Sonic CD_ and _Sonic 3&K_ did happen, it's just that SEGA decided to split the series into "Classic" and "Modern" to pander to fans), and the fact that people found it jarring to go from the Western continuity to the Japanese continuity. (Characters and events from media such as the Archie Comics never really existed or occurred, and the writers had to make stories in order to sync up with the Japanese canon, such as killing Robotnik and replacing him with Eggman, or destroying Charmy Bee's mind to make him have the mindset of a child in the body of an adult.). At this point, I'd say that the _Sonic the Hedgehog_ series is a massive localization nightmare. There are things Japanese fans like, and there things American fans don't like. There are things Japanese fans don't like, and there are things American fans like. While I don't think the initial Japanese concept would be a good way to present the series, I'd say the final concept for the series that was laid out in the manuals was a perfect series that should have been properly localized for the Western audiences. I'd also mention that there are a few Western-created things that I can stomach. For example, giving Dr. Eggman a proper name of Dr. Robotnik is a change I can get behind. I think it's just silly to be named "Eggman" in real life. (I mean, there are two people known as Susan Eggman and Michael Eggman.) It's just that I would go with the idea of Robotnik being his real last name and "Eggman" being a nickname he adopted, kind of like how fans see Dr. Robotnik in the sequel to the _Sonic Movie._ I also like the worldbuilding for levels such as Casino Park and White Park that was presented in the Archie Comics and IDW Comics, because that gives context for the existence of those levels. At this point, I'm thinking about reimagining the series, sort of like a reboot. I want to incorporate things from Japanese _Sonic_ media such as details from the manuals, while also incorporating things from American _Sonic_ media, such as the worldbuilding from the Archie and IDW comics. I like the idea of combining concepts from different forms of media to create something bigger. That's one of reasons why I like Paramount Pictures' take on _Sonic the Hedgehog;_ while they follow the Japanese canon by having the movie take place before the events of the first game, (the first game stated that it wasn't the first time Sonic and Eggman met,) they still borrowed ideas and concepts from American _Sonic_ media, such as the rings being used like the warp rings in the Archie comics, or an owl taking care of Sonic, which harkens back to a story called _Stay Sonic._ Our mixing of cultures is crucial to our survival. We rely on other people's creations to survive, yet we must be willing to share our creations for them to survive as well. This is applicable to _Sonic the Hedgehog,_ as well as real life.
Yeah their are so many sonic cannons that’s it’s a complete nightmare…I love the Japanese continuity, and some bits of the English ones, but after the absolute nightmare that was the 2010s of writing sonic in English, I just started to completely ignore the English continuity…I know I shouldn’t as there is some absolute great stuff their, but when sonic is basically completely two different characters depending on if it’s English or Japanese I just gotta draw the line. Because I'm 13, I never got to experience the adventure games.. Until I got a PS3, than I got both games and loved both of them Oh yah, and I got generations
I remember playing this on my Xbox 360 when I was really young and beating everything except the Big story, I thought it was so hard, and then a couple years later I finally beat the Big story and then the game itself, I was so happy to say that i finally beat both of the Adventure games story modes.
In July or August 2022, i played this in a pool area, and the water started doing some weird stuff. The only things i said were quote-on-quote: "*why is the water reacting*"
It was the early 2000s. I loved Sonic since as far back as I could remember, but since my first game con. was a ps2, I had no idea about some other games I couldn't get. One day, I went to my older cousin's house. He had a game cube with SA2 and when I was introduced to Shadow, my small 7 year old mind was blown. ANOTHER HEDGEHOG?! This was unheard of to me. So, when I went to my other cousin's house (who was much closer in age to me), I of course told him about it. The next weekend I went back, and in his hand was a copy of SA1 DX for their pc. He asked if chaos was shadow and I of course said no. But little did we know...that game would shape both of our childhoods forever. I'm in college now, and I still look back at those days pretending to be the characters and playing together. My cousin (the one that got SA1) aren't as close as we once were unfortunately. Times change I guess. I miss him incredibly and wish we could still have the bond we had when we were kids. But that's my story, thanks for listening to my Ted Talk haha.

Loved this game as a kid! The game and soundtrack is truly amazing! I played this everyday I could. I Wish there was a port of both 1 and 2 on the Nintendo switch or the PS4. This game needs to be discovered by current gen gamers.

Remember seeing the trailer for this game and SA2 in the Sonic Mega Collection. Once I heard the music, 7 year old me fell in love and got both games on my 8th birthday.

This song happened to come on during work, during a sudden violent thunderstorm. The day had been fairly hot and dry prior, and as the rain came crashing down, a cold, humid wind blew through, keeping the rain at a constant 30 degree tilt. There was lightning all around, keeping the sky alight, and to top it off, when this song came on, there were police sirens in the distance. Was f*cking epic.

Since this comment was posted on December 23, 2020, the initial Japanese release date of _Sonic Adventure,_ here's a little fact I know about the game.
The events leading up to _Sonic Adventure_ were actually hinted at in the Japanese manuals of the _Sonic_ games that came before _Sonic Adventure._ First, the manual for _Sonic the Hedgehog_ states that the Chaos Emeralds give energy to all living beings but they can also be used for nuclear or high energy laser weapons thanks to science and technology. The manual for _Sonic the Hedgehog 2_ indicates that there was an ancient civilization that tried to abuse the Chaos Emeralds and were wiped out by a god overnight. The manual for _Sonic the Hedgehog 3_ expanded upon the lore of the ancient civilization while also showing that Knuckles believed the Death Egg is the egg of a legendary dragon that wiped out the civilization.
You can tell that elements from the manuals were referenced in _Sonic Adventure;_ the idea that the Chaos Emeralds can be used for laser weapons was brought back into _Sonic Adventure 2,_ the civilization mentioned in _Sonic the Hedgehog 2_ turns out to be the Knuckles Clan and were wiped out by Chaos, and the legendary dragon that was mentioned in _Sonic the Hedgehog 3_ turns out to be Perfect Chaos, while the dragon's egg turned out to not be the Death Egg, but presumably Chaos' egg, since he was a Chao and Chao hatch from eggs. Finally, one honorary mention goes out to a Japanese strategy guide for _Sonic Adventure,_ which mentions that while Dr. Eggman was building the Final Egg in the Mystic Ruins, he stumbled upon a stone tablet which he learned about the existence of Chaos, leading him to start the events of _Sonic Adventure._
Sadly, all of these details in the manuals were lost in localization when the games were brought to the U.S.. That means people believed Sonic never talked (That was due to technology limits, _Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car_ was the first game in the _Sonic_ series that had voice acting, and Sonic did have a voice in commercials.), the games had no story (technology was limited so there were no cutscenes, leading to the story having to be told in manuals), people feeling that the transition to _Sonic Adventure_ felt like a western animation transitioning to an anime (The _Sonic the Hedgehog_ series borrowed a lot more elements from Shōnen anime than Western cartoons), the idea that the series is divided between a "Classic" and "Modern" series (Japanese dialogue in _Sonic Adventure_ indicates that events from previous games such as _Sonic CD_ and _Sonic 3&K_ did happen, it's just that SEGA decided to split the series into "Classic" and "Modern" to pander to fans), and the fact that people found it jarring to go from the Western continuity to the Japanese continuity. (Characters and events from media such as the Archie Comics never really existed or occurred, and the writers had to make stories in order to sync up with the Japanese canon, such as killing Robotnik and replacing him with Eggman, or destroying Charmy Bee's mind to make him have the mindset of a child in the body of an adult.).
At this point, I'd say that the _Sonic the Hedgehog_ series is a massive localization nightmare. There are things Japanese fans like, and there things American fans don't like. There are things Japanese fans don't like, and there are things American fans like. While I don't think the initial Japanese concept would be a good way to present the series, I'd say the final concept for the series that was laid out in the manuals was a perfect series that should have been properly localized for the Western audiences. I'd also mention that there are a few Western-created things that I can stomach. For example, giving Dr. Eggman a proper name of Dr. Robotnik is a change I can get behind. I think it's just silly to be named "Eggman" in real life. (I mean, there are two people known as Susan Eggman and Michael Eggman.) It's just that I would go with the idea of Robotnik being his real last name and "Eggman" being a nickname he adopted, kind of like how fans see Dr. Robotnik in the sequel to the _Sonic Movie._ I also like the worldbuilding for levels such as Casino Park and White Park that was presented in the Archie Comics and IDW Comics, because that gives context for the existence of those levels.
At this point, I'm thinking about reimagining the series, sort of like a reboot. I want to incorporate things from Japanese _Sonic_ media such as details from the manuals, while also incorporating things from American _Sonic_ media, such as the worldbuilding from the Archie and IDW comics. I like the idea of combining concepts from different forms of media to create something bigger. That's one of reasons why I like Paramount Pictures' take on _Sonic the Hedgehog;_ while they follow the Japanese canon by having the movie take place before the events of the first game, (the first game stated that it wasn't the first time Sonic and Eggman met,) they still borrowed ideas and concepts from American _Sonic_ media, such as the rings being used like the warp rings in the Archie comics, or an owl taking care of Sonic, which harkens back to a story called _Stay Sonic._
Our mixing of cultures is crucial to our survival. We rely on other people's creations to survive, yet we must be willing to share our creations for them to survive as well. This is applicable to _Sonic the Hedgehog,_ as well as real life.

Yeah their are so many sonic cannons that’s it’s a complete nightmare…I love the Japanese continuity, and some bits of the English ones, but after the absolute nightmare that was the 2010s of writing sonic in English, I just started to completely ignore the English continuity…I know I shouldn’t as there is some absolute great stuff their, but when sonic is basically completely two different characters depending on if it’s English or Japanese I just gotta draw the line. In Sonic Adventure, this plays during the first phase of perfect chaos. Honestly, this should've looped for the 2nd phase. Thats one thing no one can deny, the final boss themes in Sonic games are incredible.

It was the early 2000s. I loved Sonic since as far back as I could remember, but since my first game con. was a ps2, I had no idea about some other games I couldn't get. One day, I went to my older cousin's house. He had a game cube with SA2 and when I was introduced to Shadow, my small 7 year old mind was blown. ANOTHER HEDGEHOG?! This was unheard of to me. So, when I went to my other cousin's house (who was much closer in age to me), I of course told him about it. The next weekend I went back, and in his hand was a copy of SA1 DX for their pc. He asked if chaos was shadow and I of course said no. But little did we know...that game would shape both of our childhoods forever. I'm in college now, and I still look back at those days pretending to be the characters and playing together. My cousin (the one that got SA1) aren't as close as we once were unfortunately. Times change I guess. I miss him incredibly and wish we could still have the bond we had when we were kids.

Loved this game as a kid! The game and soundtrack is truly amazing! I played this everyday I could. I Wish there was a port of both 1 and 2 on the Nintendo switch or the PS4. This game needs to be discovered by current gen gamers.

Remember seeing the trailer for this game and SA2 in the Sonic Mega Collection. Once I heard the music, 7 year old me fell in love and got both games on my 8th birthday.

As someone who was in the most affected part of hurricane Ian, I can confirm that this was playing during the hurricane.
This song happened to come on during work, during a sudden violent thunderstorm.
The day had been fairly hot and dry prior, and as the rain came crashing down, a cold, humid wind blew through, keeping the rain at a constant 30 degree tilt. There was lightning all around, keeping the sky alight, and to top it off, when this song came on, there were police sirens in the distance. Was f*cking epic.
