How they ruined the lighting in the game? How the really bad models (e.g Eggman, Perfect Chaos) still look bad? It’s a rushed port. The “HD” rereleases make it worse by locking it to 4:3 rather than widescreen.

Another fact it's all about speed, sonic in 1998 could not accelerate hard enough, because of what it was necessary to turn into a super but already in 2011, he could fully use boost as a good acceleration physics lol
I think the whole point of the song being more emotionally dead is that Sonic knows this fight is said and done. He likes soaking in the nostalgia of the moment, so that's why the song still plays. But there's no fear anymore, just snarky confidence and warm memories.
Sonic could probably have subdued Perfect Chaos without the emeralds already, if his fights against Chaos 0, 4, and 6 were any indicator. The problem is that he would just keep coming back, and it was the positive energy from the Chaos Emeralds that was in Super Sonic that neutralized his negative emotions and allowed him to find peace. Sonic in Generations defeated Perfect Chaos, but only temporarily, compared to helping Chaos find peace as in Adventure. At least, this is my educated speculation. Sonic lore is pretty deep when you look under the hood.

I prefer to look at it this way: Chaos is just as powerful as he used to be. Sonic has just taken enough levels in badass that he can defeat Chaos without going super. "Boost to Win" as some would say.

I know its been 6 years but I will like to add something. I think that reason why there's more power on the vocals and gutair is because while sonic knows he can beat chaos, being back at that destroyed city where many people died doesn't bring good memories. The song feels a bit like its in the background or muted in a sense like he's trying to not focus on that part.

This was honest to god the best part of Generations for me. Hell, the entire Adventure level segment was awesome. Though I will admit, it makes me wish they gave the Adventure formula another shot. Sure, 06 was a flop but that was because SEGA rushed it. Look at Adventure 1 and 2, they were solid games. Shadow the Hedgehog, despite the multiple ending thing, was still fun to play. And Heroes is... Kinda meh personally. So why not give the formula another shot?

This is still my favorite version of Open your heart and my favorite Crush 40 song. I’ve memorized the lyrics and still singing this after over 12 years.
I recently played through Generations in its entirety for the first time in over eight years and while it is very apparent looking back how it continued the downward trend in the series’ writing and characterization, I have to give it massive props for nailing these climactic moments. The introduction to this fight alone is so satisfying in the way the music and action move together. The song kicking in the second the camera pans from Sonic over to Chaos, the iconic shot of the reptile eye, and the lyrics starting the second you take control. Classic Sonic may have had his issues but it’s still a great celebration overall.
sonic generations wasn't perfect, but it was way better than other games (black knight) unfortunately people liked it so much that sega only took the bad aspects of sonic generations moving forward (sonic forces)

I love how in Sonic Adventure 1, Perfect Chaos was pretty much a god that could only be defeated by the god-like super sonic. In Sonic Generations he can just be taken down my regular sonic.

This version is pretty good. It sounds more serious like if you lose, there will be dire consequences but it also lacks some of the energetic punches you’d get from the original. Conclusion: this is a better boss song but the original is a better work of art imo

I recently beat Perfect Chaos in SA1, a game I've been wanting to play for years, and it was a fun boss fight, like really fun, but the thing about bosses is that you tend to not pay attention to the music. Especially in Generations, when I played it, beating the boss way too quick for most of the lyrics to even play. So glad people like this exist.
People appear to not like this song as much as the og but i like it for the sole reason that its just smoother in tone. Its just really sounds relaxing while keeping the hype in check.

This mix feels darker than the original and it does a good job of it. The parts when it describes shit going down are my favorite. *"Thunder, Rain and Lightning,* *Danger, Water rising,* *Clamour, Sirens wailing,* *It's such a bad sign.."* It's more ominous in this version as if it's on a radio or television. It makes me imagine what Perfect Chaos is doing to the innocents, the city in shambles and having no way to counter the beast other than using radios to call for help. All the while, Sonic makes his way through it all to be their salvation. There's an alternate picture in my head that's... Relatively the same thing, though Perfect Chaos isn't the threat and Sonic may not be in the fight.
I never played Sonic Adventure but I watched the Grumps playthrough, and none of it interested me at all except for the Perfect Chaos fight, so I was super excited when I got Generations and it turned out to be the second boss fight :D

I think it's meant to show how far he's come. Back then, if Sonic touched water, he died. By Generations, not only can he run on water, but he has far more powerful attacks as well as the boost (which kills normal enemies) Although now that I think about it, I've never tried fighting Generations!Perfect Chaos in super form. I know its been 6 years but I will like to add something. I think that reason why there's more power on the vocals and gutair is because while sonic knows he can beat chaos, being back at that destroyed city where many people died doesn't bring good memories. The song feels a bit like its in the background or muted in a sense like he's trying to not focus on that part.

This was honest to god the best part of Generations for me. Hell, the entire Adventure level segment was awesome. Though I will admit, it makes me wish they gave the Adventure formula another shot. Sure, 06 was a flop but that was because SEGA rushed it. Look at Adventure 1 and 2, they were solid games. Shadow the Hedgehog, despite the multiple ending thing, was still fun to play. And Heroes is... Kinda meh personally. So why not give the formula another shot?

I recently played through Generations in its entirety for the first time in over eight years and while it is very apparent looking back how it continued the downward trend in the series’ writing and characterization, I have to give it massive props for nailing these climactic moments. The introduction to this fight alone is so satisfying in the way the music and action move together. The song kicking in the second the camera pans from Sonic over to Chaos, the iconic shot of the reptile eye, and the lyrics starting the second you take control. Classic Sonic may have had his issues but it’s still a great celebration overall.

sonic generations wasn't perfect, but it was way better than other games (black knight) unfortunately people liked it so much that sega only took the bad aspects of sonic generations moving forward (sonic forces)

This version is pretty good. It sounds more serious like if you lose, there will be dire consequences but it also lacks some of the energetic punches you’d get from the original.

I recently beat Perfect Chaos in SA1, a game I've been wanting to play for years, and it was a fun boss fight, like really fun, but the thing about bosses is that you tend to not pay attention to the music. Especially in Generations, when I played it, beating the boss way too quick for most of the lyrics to even play. So glad people like this exist.
People appear to not like this song as much as the og but i like it for the sole reason that its just smoother in tone. Its just really sounds relaxing while keeping the hype in check.
This remix is solid: it's just a shame I don't get to hear much of this song in the game due to how it really doesn't take long to get to the 2nd phase

It's more ominous in this version as if it's on a radio or television.
It makes me imagine what Perfect Chaos is doing to the innocents, the city in shambles and having no way to counter the beast other than using radios to call for help. All the while, Sonic makes his way through it all to be their salvation.
There's an alternate picture in my head that's... Relatively the same thing, though Perfect Chaos isn't the threat and Sonic may not be in the fight.

I never played Sonic Adventure but I watched the Grumps playthrough, and none of it interested me at all except for the Perfect Chaos fight, so I was super excited when I got Generations and it turned out to be the second boss fight :D

I think it's meant to show how far he's come. Back then, if Sonic touched water, he died. By Generations, not only can he run on water, but he has far more powerful attacks as well as the boost (which kills normal enemies)
Although now that I think about it, I've never tried fighting Generations!Perfect Chaos in super form. I'd like to try that out now....
