    This is why I don't think the Indian Challenger stands a chance against the Harley Davidson Road Glide. I still think the Challenger looks like an awesome bike though! Till next time y'all, keep it weird #shadetreearmy

    Agreed with everything you said Shadetree and I do love how you say it. Rode the Challenger at an Indian Demo event last weekend. Damn nice bike, couldn't get over how comfortable it was and let me tell ya it will go. Personally I don't care what Matt Laidlaw has to say about it I think the Challenger fairing looks better than the Road Glide. If I had to pick between the two it'd be Challenger all the way. The biggest compliment I can give it is that it had me wondering just how much they'd give me on trade for my 2018 Street Glide Special.

I think the Challenger frame and suspension is more similar to the Softail line. I've had both the Road Glide and the Ultra Glide for long distance highway/ interstate touring, and I loved them for that. I rode the Tail of the Dragon on my Ultra and hated it. I rode it on my wife's Sportster and had a blast. I guess I've never ridden a "performance" tourer, so I guess I should just shut up. "Old Bald Fat Guy w/Cane" keeping it weird!

    Hey ShadeTree! Agree with your analysis but this IS a bike I'd buy. My own words:
    "The Challenger is a bridge product: those who have some nostalgia, and US home-bias, and want an American V-Twin but not enough to go get an air cooled machine. They also want performance and technology, but not enough to go get a BMW or a GoldWing. They want reliability, not the promise that “If you break down there’s Harley dealers everywhere!”
    This motorcycle is a bridge for all those who want technology and dial-tone reliability, gas mileage and turn by turn directions, but who also have to admit that an American muscle machine is just plain cooler than a GoldWing. People who appreciate the engineering of a turbocharged Subaru but who might buy a Dodge Challenger or a Mustang instead for the exhaust sound and the body style."

    I love being able to work on my Harley (I don’t always love how much that costs me but it is what it is). During the harsh Canadian winter working on my bike is what gets me through until the next riding season. It’s fun to take a bike and make it better than it was when you bought it.

    When I saw that photo released I thought, "Come on Indian! You're going to come out with another massive expensive bagger to cater to an ever shrinking market only in North America?" Coming out with small capacity bikes like a 500 CC FTR would have been interesting and most of the world rides smaller bikes if Indian really wants sales volume.
    Nah, they seem to want to just nip at HDs heels.

    Bikes with frame mounted fairings remind me of my old walleyed gym coach. You're going left and the fairing is pointed in another direction. They freak me out. Not a fan.

    • @SurmaSampo
      @SurmaSampo 4 роки тому

      The advantage is the mirrors are useful while in a turn instead of pointing at the ground and the sky. Once I got a fixed fairing bike I have no interest in going back to handlebar mounted mirrors.

    • @SurmaSampo
      @SurmaSampo 4 роки тому

      @Mod Zozer That seems stupid. Ehh, yank tanks.

    • @jimnielsen4076
      @jimnielsen4076 4 роки тому

      Advantage of a frame mounted fairing is less weight on the front suspension. They corner harder easier. Difference between the cornering ability of a Vic Vision & a Cross Country. The Vision easily out corners it.

    • @SurmaSampo
      @SurmaSampo 4 роки тому

      @Mod Zozer I stated that that I much prefer frame mounted mirrors and when you said that the challenger and road glide have handlebar mounted mirror i replied that it was a stupid decision to do so. What exactly is confusing you about my position on mirror placement.

    Honestly I love my harley and the culture not only around motorcycle's but, the culture around the bar and shield also. If I were going to dump that much money into any kind of bagger I'd get the Cadillac of them and purchase a Honda Goldwing but, I love my fxdc and I don't plan on changing anytime soon. Let's face it, I couldn't afford a bike like the Harley Roadglide, Indian Charger or a Honda Goldwing right now anyways so who am I to say anything about those bikes I can only dream about.

      GW is a great bike. I've owned 2. Very uncomfortable for the rider(especially as my knees get older) and seems very cramped. Xlnt for the passenger though. Besides, your comparing a horizontally opposed 6 cylinder to a V-Twin. 2 really different rides.

    What I like best about the Challenger is that it shows that Indian is working hard to bring something to the table for everyone. It couldn't be more different from the retro Chieftain platform. The PowerPlus motor was designed and patented by Victory several years back to replace the Freedom motor, which good as it was, did not meet the upcoming EU pollution standards. Victory was always about power coupled with extreme durability so I am more than glad to see Indian moving in that direction, so much so, in fact, that I expect the Challenger to be my next new Victory. Good chat.

HD will always have its place in the motorcycle world, because its positioning and strategy have always been very clear. You know what you buy when you buy a HD and you know that it will retain its value. I've subscribed to your channel.
