Pretty sure they can be installed up to the wall as the mechanism pulls the seat cushion out and let’s the back cushion come down. This particular couch was custom made for a bus conversion so we had other nuances to deal with. Sofa was purchased from RecPro and I’m sure they have diagrams on their website.
like what you did! I am purchasing a jack knife for my skoolie and wanting to add seat belts to it. If I made storage compartments under the couch should I bolt the seat belts into the ground or into the wood?
Thanks for the feedback and stoked you are diving into your own project! Definitely try to attach seatbelts to the metal structure of the bus. Wood is strong but doesn’t have the shear strength of metal.
awesome. I retired too early and sadly sold ALL tools. I now live on a Motoryacht and need to make custom furniture with storage drawers. What is the best type of wood to use that you can suggest? I simply was going to purchase a Walmart type sofa, then place it on the base or have custom cut foam cushion made for the seat and back, (or futon)
Stay away from any of the particle boards or fiberboards for your sheet goods and if you can swing it, a mahogany or tight grain cedar would be a great wood choice.
I just purchased a new jackknife sofa for my RV and would really love to use this design. I sent email requesting a kit or anything to help in the project, please advise.
Thanks!! We can definitely consult with you on a set of plans given the sofa you are using, hardware and woodworking capabilities. forayconcept@gmail.com will get you in my email and we can go from there. Cheers!
It could be. This was a one-off project but with a little info from you we could put together a kit that works for ya. Just send us an email through our website and we will get you hooked up!!
Love this idea! Except I'm thinking about just putting a mattress or cushion on top instead of the jackknife
That thing is badass
Thanks!!
Is it a kit, and where can I get one?
You do great work!
Thank you!
I sent you an email a couple days ago. Hoping I could get the plans for this base.
Can these be installed right against the wall or do u need space in the back? If so, how much do u recommend?
Wondering the same

Excellent job! I am looking to do something similar. Are you willing to share or sell a copy of your plans?
