IRS violates natural law in that they steal the money that people have earned. It is a modern slave system with no moral authority.

The last thing the IRS wants to do is go to trial. They will almost always settle for a lower number. If this guy really has hundreds of millions of dollars I'm shocked that he's not willing to pay at least some of the taxes. Or, perhaps, the DOJ wants to make an example out of a famous person.
I think it is because they are losing control of the narrative. The narrative is bitcoin and crypto in general is an asset. They don't want a stronger narrative that bitcoin and crypto is money. @@EdDunkle

I've got to say that Ver had a real autistic moment with the big block fork war but that doesn't mean I wish the application of government violence upon him to steal his property.
So your ok to hafto pay 300 bucks to move 3000? Bitcoin is not only a store of value you know. Some us actually buy things with it on a daily basis. And don't talk to me about lightning, that was not Satoshi's original vision.

People forget that USA federal income tax is unconstitutional. That taxation was supposed to be temporary amendment to save the USA during World War 2. I think most agree WW2 has been over for a while. The corrupt modern USA govt is stealing from all.

I'm sure he's not going to the regular prison. He's going to be going to the white collar prison, which is more like a resort . The only real difference being that you can't leave anytime you want.

There are significant issues with this pursuit. If they accepted the renunciation of his citizenship, then they have no legal case or merit. The process of renouncing your citizenship should be more clear and robust. I cannot simply renounce my US citizenship and still have companies operating in the US. There is a lack of process here that allows for tribalism to exist in the US government. This is a failure of the justice system and there needs to be a more formal process. Otherwise, renouncing your citizenship can criminalize leaving the USA which is corruption in the highest degree and erodes the power of the freedom of speech. I will be watching this closely now because there is a significant problem as if I don't want to have any dealings with the US due to their actions or elections, I should have the right to withdraw everything through a clear and available process.

Roger Ver should have an easy defense tho. All he has to do is make the Justice Dept cite the tax regulations he violated back in 2015 and then the case is dismissed bc there were none.

Yep they are going to squeeze every last drop from any citizen or ex-citizen. So any loop hole they can use they will use it. Bitcoin is going to be an easy target for them with capital gains etc. They know it is going to go up. So adjust your plans accordingly.

There is no code in the IRS code book that requires an individual to file or pay income tax!
You mean no man or woman is compelled to pay tax so they make you a PERSON or an individual via government identification.
The Internal Revenue laws were repealed in 1939 at 53 Stat 1 The IRS is a scam. In addition, the income tax is immoral. If a man works or invests his money and makes a profit, then that money should be his to use.

What I don't understand is why the MSM is saying he personally still has to do a US tax return every year due to his ex-pat status. That makes no sense, they don't mention his companies.
2014 I prepared a tax 2013 tax return for a Computer Engineer that sold a server and got paid with Bitcoin. The Bitcoin chunk $ Invoice of the Server was Gross Sales (even paid Sales Tax on collected from the sale). When he sold the Bitcoin later, the amount he had already paid tax on was his “basis” and the difference Capital Gain. He did this as a side gig to make extra $.

Have posted this a few times in different comment sections but...the US had no jurisdiction over CZ. He's not an American citizen and, as far as I know, he doesn't reside in the US, so how is it the US managed to try him for anything? Anyone?

Liquidity on bitcoin exchanges at the time he renounced his citizenship was extremely low. If he had sold his entire stash, the price would have dropped below a dollar. Lack of liquidity is still a huge problem with some of the lesser known coins. You might think you have a million dollars worth of some sh*tcoin, but as soon as you try to sell more than a couple hundred dollars worth, the current price drops to nothing due to lack of buyers.

I don't know why the CZ verdict was shocking to anyone. The charges were very weak if you look into it and he crossed his t's and dotted his i's the best that anyone could have done in the wild west days of crypto. Breaking AML/KYC regulatory laws that allowed citizens of US sanctioned countries to use the exchange and conduct trade is not nearly as bad as SBF defrauding his clients. CZ ran a solvent exchange and everyone got their money.

For those who relinquished US Citizenship, they should be aware of many possible ways the IRS will come to you. Among the less common ones are or they will be: 1.- Profits, or profits on coins or tokens, directly related to the US. 2.- Profits accumulated while a US citizen. 3.- Constructed receipt of income. If those 3 points ring a bell, having a good lawyer handy is not a bad idea.

Dan Held's comment was harsh but Roger Ver was by no means an even keeled spokesperson. He was at war with bitcoin proponents and was vigorously pushing his version of bitcoin (BCH). I'm not saying he was not instrumental in pushing forward the benefits of bitcoin but he was definitely a VERY polarizing individual who probably burnt alot of bridges in his pursuits which did not align with BTC.
Let's not forget Bitcoin Judas is a convicted fellon who served 10 months in prison for endangering postal workers live. Never forgetting him posting a clip endorsing MtGox even after it was obvious they had treasury issues...
He was the biggest proponent for bitcoin... Once he saw they didn't want to scale is when he sided with BCH.

When you get a very…advantageous sentence from the US Government…sometimes is bc you give them other people that will serve the time you were likely to end up serving (the first one to talk gets the best deal - but it could just be good attorneys and/or weak case). I think BC Jesus “unpaid tax” is so low (for him - he should just pay it) that there has to be more to it. They want him in custody to add more charges.
