5:43 overall color adjustment would save the headache of having to redo each frame. Just wondering out loudly: With that said, it might be helpful if the color dropper, or added function, could show color names etc. Maybe know them from the palette saved? Can't recall if Procreate Dreams lets you save palettes or color swatches. If not, maybe save single/ or frame or object to being up as a reference image? Save them in a folder for swatches and colorspace in use or as ideas. Maybe save to quicknote or Note, a frame or swatch, include colorspace, etc and which animation or drawing it is reference for. Or if you have another program or web page color picker or identifier tool where there's a one on one march to art that is intended to appear online, etc. // Sure would be more useful if it was a function built into Procreate Dreams or partnered into symbiotic via Procreate app. I appreciate the benefit of lean and re-coded Dreams but I hope that interaction of some sort is in future upgrades. Hearing out animators and illustrators about their real-life wishlist is a must. // Good point: it's just a toddler. Maturity comes with time. // While Desktop would give the impression of a wider base for company surviving longterm, I think I would prefer to see Cuda and team focus on fine-tuning the iPad versions.
I'm pretty disappointed in the slow development of the program. I expected a lot more functionality to be available by now considering how long it has been available.
@@davidpikedesigns it's downright shameful! haha they made such a big deal about it when it released, and it instantly felt like they were missing features. But everyone had faither because of how far procreate had come. Now all that good faith has been squandered.
Agreed. I've lost my faith, and I've gone back to working with Blender Grease Pencil and Toon Boom Harmony. As much as I love drawing on the iPad, I won't be using it much for animation moving forward.
im also having some issues trying to export videos in blender to Dreams. Dreams cant identify transparent alpha backgrounds. it shows in black. At best, I can only download individual PNG frames and paste all of them
It could be a Dreams problems, but I have some settings you can try for exporting your Blender video. You may use these already, but I'll add them here in case others have similar issues. Under the Output properties, set the File Format as FFmpeg Video. Currently, this does not offer an alpha option, but changing some other settings will make that option available. Next, open the Encoding section and choose Quicktime as your container. Under the Video section, change the Video Codec setting to OT rle/QT Animation. Go back to the top and under File Format, you should be able to choose RGBA as your Color option. Hopefully, this will work. If not, it could be a Dreams issue. Let me know if that helps. Thanks for watching!
Sorry, I didn't check into that. You are right. It doesn't support QuickTime. Someone mentioned that Procreate doesn't either and ended their statement with "it's stupid," so I think that covers it. I learned something new today. :)
If you are focused mainly on drawing and creating simple animations, I agree that Dreams might be overkill and Procreate would be simpler to use. Thanks for watching!
@@davidpikedesigns no disrespect to procreate dreams, but it seem there are too many missing features, and it is all work arounds with a great deal of steps. Bummer. I hope they simplify it so that it is amazing as procreate.
Thank you so much for the video. But I have one HUGE issue which may be very simple to fix but I have no clue how to. How do I maintain the quality from procreate to procrear dreams? My quality drops substantially upon transfer esizing. I’ll be forever grateful if you can give a tip on this.
Thanks for watching! Glad it was helpful! Concerning the quality issue, if you create your Dreams file as 4K, do you do the same in Procreate? In the Procreate gallery, if you click the plus button to create a new file, you can select the New Canvas size. Are you choosing 4K there as well? Hope that helps!
@@davidpikedesigns subscribed to you as well David, insanely appreciate it. Ahhhh I hadn’t, so I need to click 4K on both. I’ll give that a try for my drawings going forward. Have the ones I done so far unable to become 4K? I.e do I need to redraw everything? Or just change in the settings? (Don’t feel like u need to reply to this, u already helped so much). Would you mind if I reference your channel on what helped me improve?
I don't know for certain, but I'm just guessing that might be the issue. I would create a test drawing in Procreate at 4K and then drag it into Dreams with it set to 4K and see if you have the same issue. Since Procreate isn't a vector program, you won't be able to increase the resolution of existing drawings if they weren't created in 4K. An alternative is to set the Dreams file to match your Procreate file, such as at HD/1080p. 4K might not even be necessary for what you are doing. Hope that helps! Sure, you can reference the channel. Thanks for subscribing!
@@davidpikedesigns done a quick trial just now and it’s massively improved. It’s because I put in so much time and detail in procreate (it was like 2000x2000, 300dpi) and even on procreate itself, once I reduced the size it was almost unrecognisable (I need to fit a few things in the screen so had to reduce the size of drawings) and when I want to move the lips or eyes it was very bad quality pixels to the point I can barely make out the mouth when zoomed in fully. On dreams itself I only have “HD widescreen, HD social” etc and Can only edit the frames per second. But thanks again for your time and patience. Awesome David I will do then!
hi help me decide, I am about to buy Ipad just for this, so kindly tell me your advice I am about to use it like it is in the Adobe After Effects, just for the 2D animated explainer video and motion graphics, I am about to switch to dream if possible as the mobile and portability is what I need now as a father of two. I have check your video that we have the keyframe similar to AE we can even rig character like in AE that was helpful video, but how is your overall thought on my decision? Kindly thank you for your time.
I can't say for certain what is right for your situation, but I think they are two very different programs. If you are going to be creating a lot of puppet/rigged animation like I see in explainer videos, I don't think Dreams is the right program at this time. I think simple rigs are possible, but not like you would find in more developed programs. So, it might work, but you might run into some roadblocks.
I bought procreate dreams too many missing features. It is too young of the program, and I don't want to wait a year before I can do a animation there are other programs that have more features if you wonta make an animation today but I do love procreate
It is missing a lot of features at the moment. I thought updates would be coming more frequently, but they have been stalled for a while now. If I was working on something complex and didn't want to wait for future updates, I would probably look elsewhere.
I'm hoping selection tools are being included in the next release. Finger crossed. Also, I'd like to see the ability to manipulate grouped layers. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. It was interesting. For me, it’s remarkable there’s not a lot of content being produced by users of Dreams. I’ve barely seen any since it launched. I wonder if this thing will flop. I bought the app in November and I’m embarrassed to say I still haven’t really used it. I found the gap between what I hoped I would do with it, and the learning curve to get there to be too great
I haven't seen a lot of content on UA-cam, but I haven't actually been looking for it. I am a member of several Procreate Dreams Facebook groups, and there seems to be people using it quite a bit in those groups, but I don't know how those numbers of users compare to other iPad animation programs. I personally don't think the learning curve is too bad; however, if you are coming from another program that has more features, you will probably quickly run into roadblocks when trying to apply your existing workflow to Dreams. My biggest issue is trying to animate on an iPad. I'm so used to working on a computer, I feel much slower and more confined on the iPad. Thanks for watching!
For drawing or painting, Procreate. If you want to use advanced animation tools (Procreate can create basic animations), Procreate Dreams. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
