Neil Innes deserves more recognition. I hope Eric Idle gets his act together and brings out RWT on DVD... And the BBC releases The Innes Book of Records. Super stuff. PS: I absolutely adore this track - thanks for uploading it!

...Tomorrow belongs to me? Wasn't that last week? NO! WAIT? WHAT!! Ah Neil, you've given me so much musical pleasure since 1967! I'll never forget that time I met you at the 9:30 Club in Washington,D.C. back in 1985! RAW MEAT! Say hello to Mr. Apollo for me!

Neil Innes, a genius. Wonderful use of the English language on par with 10cc

Love Terrence Baylor falling at the beginning! lol
Plus Eric looks rather dashing! You get to notice all this when you stop paying attention to Neil's genius! ;)

The more I see of Neil Innes, the more I LOVE him. Funny to see Eric Idle and Terrence Baylor in this one too.

As good a song as Monkberry Moon Delight, and Neil is not masquerading as somebody else like Billy. This level of debauchery is seldom attained.

How the hell did I get to run this guy's appreciation society and never knew this was the origin of Nick Cabaret???!!! Brilliant stuff!

Wow I never knew he did this song for RWT! Awesome. Also awesome to see Eric and Terence Baylor in it. I heart this song and call me a nut, but I love how Neil looks here. :P

Not as obvious in this version but Neil's studio recording has such a strong Leon Russell sound, if it wasn't for Neil's voice I'd assume I found a lost Shelter People track.
This is a great version though.
I don't know if there's a musician I'd admire that Neil Innes can't effortlessly capture.
Truly an underappreciated genius. Sorely missed.

This is so much better than the studio version. Better backing vocals. Neil's singing sounds less rushed. Even the instrumentation sounds fuller or better. Everything's just better.

I agree entirely. Are there two separate bands that play each version? Fatso here and Grimms on the studio version?

Must be different people. The production here is different and better. I since found a different studio version, I think. There's an album cover with Neil and some guys and an upload I'm referring to in the 2 year old comment where it was a cover that had I think a toy duck.

Great tune with quite serious lyrics, Neil's writing is great, check out "Lie Down and Be Counted". In some way, with all this decadence, it reminds me of David Bowie.

^^right what you said about Eric in this! Something about him and that cigar and all. He's pretty good looking.

He acts just like Joel Grey's Cabaret MC. It's uncanny how well he mimics the character. The only thing keeping him from being a creepy is his voice lol.

I think you've got it quite the reverse, my friend. The EU is the great, secular post-war dream that he's singing about.

The character is called Nick Cabaret, because Neil "nicked" him from Cabaret! And hear-hear for boys in makeup!

I picture this as some sort of...musical song, don't know why.
Also, is it odd that when I see this video, I think of my interpretation of old Roman orgies? The sexless ones, I mean -- the ones that were just dirty and despicable and prehistorically brutish. Ceilings covered with smoke and people gorging themselves on wine and grease, keeping themselves encrusted in filth...
    ...
Yeah, that might be odd. It's a wonderful song, though.
