I don’t think he knows anything about wrestling or top game. Straight ankle locks are just super easy. And at the end of the day there are only a few dudes that size who aren’t playing football or basketball.

Andrew took Big Dan into deep waters and drowned him there. I must say, I find the jiu-jitsu of both Tackett brothers so easy to watch. Would be great if they decided to cross-train with B-team and Craig especially.

It's easy to criticize his strategy to pull guard in hindsight, but there's a real possibility he wasn't confident he could take Tackett down despite the size. As a wrestler, I've seen 200+ guys with no wrestling experience get destroyed by lightweights, and Tackett actually has good wrestling

Dan was way too kick back in this match. I was surprised when he immediately pulled guard. It seemed like he was just rolling in a class just getting to know a new person. Was he maybe dealing with an injury?
honestly I think he greatly underestimated Tackett's ability to submit him based on the size disparity. When Tackett has him in side control there is zero sense of urgency, same with him taking mount.

Nah, if you watch the whole series of Who’s Next, you’ll see from his interviews that he was priding himself on being a ‘big guy who plays a little guy’s game,’ I.e., open guard and leg locks. He used it to finish his first opponent on Who’s Next in under 60 seconds I think. Doesn’t seem like he was training much else, tactically, at the time

he always plays bottom, or sits. My guess is he is conscious of the fact his center of gravity is much higher no matter how much he tries to be short, he’s a guy that high level wrestler/ judo through focused fighters can throw and take down. So he just eliminates the opportunity purely out of strategy.

@@Jiujitswho I don’t know if he is lazy, I think he does do a very good job conserving energy. Realistically if you were 6’7” 260 -275 whatever, wouldn’t it be smart to drop to the bottom anyway, like if he is going against someone with good takedowns and throws, that size just makes you look extra foolish flying through the air, and hurts worse when you land. So why not drop to guard and master all the sweeps you can learn, seems like it avoids a takedown, it sets him up for a reversal, its the logical fight plan every time…. unless he matches size with a guy, and he feels he is faster. I would like to roll with Big Dan, but I found out he can’t swim, and if you can’t swim you can’t roll with a shark. (pre white belt shark)

It kinda seemed like after he realized Tackett wasn’t gonna tap to those leg locks without doing damage, he just tried riding out the match. Kinda weird really

I don't know who is the better grappler (and Dan's recent success would indicate the answer is not clear cut), but it looks like from about 4:40, he just gave up on the match. He stopped trying to prevent the passes, and only half heartedly worked the escapes. I know he had a bad knee injury going into the show, so maybe he aggravated it or something?

dan went easy on him. he couldve easily played a pressure game with his size and smothered tackett. he allowed the fight to equalize. good sportsmanship from dan- arrogance from tackett.
