Enjoying this format too.... a perfect amount of time to sit back with a cuppa and just enjoy your adventures. Keep on doing it this way Richard if you can.
Most enjoyable! I like this new format and love seeing the pretty villages and interesting architecture, well done Richard, I think you’re onto a winner!
Actually "labor saving" devices don't. We just use more stuff, which offsets the machines. Bedsused to be made with flat sheets. The bottom sheet was rotated to the top, and only the bottom sheet was clean. Now, we have fitted bottom sheets, and wash the entire set. That's how it goes.
Excellent broadcast.Amazing little treasures this land of ours throws up.People need to appreciate this more,in this ever advancing world.Good job Sir.
Great to see a return to the Sussex Borders, particularly in the new and more relaxed longer format...hope you don't let it make you feel trapped at any time though, because a shortie will still keep most of us more than happy when required!
ON THE BORDER (verse 70 of180) He'd Sussex to the east of him he'd Hampshire to his west.. Abundant seasonal energy and beauty to digest.. This slender wisp of no-man's land two county plots between.. Will thread its way to ancient Rye much trod though never seen. (JB21)
You have cracked it Richard this is absolutely brilliant. You have the format, time span, content and narration absolutely correct Looking forward to many more please Stay safe Roy & Jennifer Further Paradise Spain
The modern type :-) I can remember us getting a big upgrade, a Twin tub with an inbuilt mangle that used Electricity. The early sixties clean air act made hanging washing outside a feasible option for many. It had put an end to heating your house with coal. Previous to that soot particles could ruin your Whites wash, if it was foggy or it rained.
Fabulous. Loved it all. Remember the mangle very well indeed. Takes me back. The yew trees were magnificent. Julia would have loved these. Your drone work is great. Thank you for amazing vlog.
Must admit i always find it amazing how we have all these modern gadgets, washing machines, cars, vaccumn cleaners, mobile phones etc ,yet people don't have any time, despite these time saving gadgets! Imagine doing all the chores without any modern conveniences and then either walking or saddling up a horse,or preparing a horse and cart to go anywhere. We have all these devices yet time management seems to have escaped us.
The one factor that never changes and never can change is the stark fact that a single day consists of 24 hours, 16 of which are usable. While we may have a whole host of time saving devices, it is using them all that takes the time....
My memory of the mangle was getting my hand stuck in it, it was electric and sucked my hand in, bent the fingers permanently, another school friend did the same and was not so fortunate...... Crikey... you're a busy chap Richard, love it !
ON THE BORDER (verse 72 of 180) As Major Peake came racing home down through the empty night He had the glow of Chichester quite firmly in his sight He gasped with incredulity as Sussex grew in size It's fast expanding border shape unseen by human eyes. (JB21)
In think you may have hit the nail on the head with the format! Looking forward to the further flung edge of Sussex. Was totally unaware of the importance of the yew tree tunnel and that the edge of the churchyard is in fact the line of the county boundary. Loved it
I have been away for a few days so I halve some catching up to do and I am really looking forward to it. I do like the format. You are right that both Emsworth and Westbourne are worthy of a visit. The drone footage was a nice touch.
Notice the West Sussex crest on the Westbourne village sign. Normally towns and villages in the county don't have a crest unlike East Sussex, only when you go into the county (which appears to be as you enter the village in this case). One exception is Wiston. Also nice to see the new crests they are putting up instead of those empty circles where 2 or 3 signs are on the post. A good example at Shipley
Put them through again, I'd love a mangle..my great grandparents had one that I had the pleasure to use- I'm 52- I loved it and was gutted when it disappeared !
Nice surprise to find a new Sussex border exploration this morning after watching your video posted the previous evening. The longer format makes a lot of sense. With the shorter daylight hours and increase in travelling time from Worthing it is not worth the effort for a short 10 minute video. Now that you are exploring parts of Sussex that I am less familiar with, I am find them more interesting. Hope to meet you again for the next walk.
My Nan had huge wooden roller mangle with a 3 ft cogged wheel... she had it since married in 1919/20 sold to an antique dealer for 50 quid when she went into a home. Emsworth is superbearnt to sail there 50 years ago looks to have changed little..
Great video! Richard👍I love those beautiful big yew tree's💚💚💚 I wish we had some real yew tree's on this side of the pond 💙all we have over here are Canadian yew's which are really not more than a ground cover shrub!
ON THE BORDER (verse 71 of 180) St John the Baptist Westbourne felt the wrath of Pevsner's pen.. 'Unpleasant' wrote the architect of changes way back when.. An avenue of ancient yews the oldest in the land.. Mid-Tudor in its origin within the churchyard stands. (JB21)
Emsworth looks so lovely only last week I'm pretty sure I passed that station on the way to portsmouth, would love to look at those lovely buildings so historic, and again Westbourne absolutely lovely place. The church and buildings beautiful. Lovely cottages. Great video Richard thankyou glad the border walk is back :)
Nice Mangle Richard, maybe you could use it for making pastry instead of a rolling pin lol. I love the Yew trees, like humans they seem to show their age. Great video, love the new format.
Great video - 2 very pretty and elegant villages. Wonderfully filmed and narrated. I wasn’t really sure about the mangle but at the start, not that it wasn’t interesting, it didn’t flow in with the rest of the video?
well what a beautiful informative piece this is taking me out to parts i never seen before and enriching my spirits. Even though this was a solo adventure the van provided you with a mobile base and the drone shots seemed to work out fine. The voiceovers really add that something extra, its like your narrating your self with a hint of comedic effect. Very entertaining and i am sure a repeat watch for months to come.
Loving these longer formats, even if they're only five minutes or so longer than the previous ones! It really annoys me how the BBC and others have done nothing with your skills for so long. One thing that might help with the drone control screen "brightness" (or seemingly lack thereof) is to cutout a cardboard sheath that encloses the screen and you down into it to see the screen. That would eliminate or greatly reduce the amount of ambient light that makes it difficult to see while outside. If it's a tablet like you say then maybe enclose the whole thing with holes on the sides for your thumbs to go through. Just a thought.
Hi Richard, I dont know which quad copter ( I hate the word drone) you have, If its a one of the DJI quads then I would recomend you take a look at their Smart Controler. It has a VERY bright screen and you can see what the quad see's even in bright sunlight. Check if your quyad is compatable with it. It is expencive, but well worth the investmant. I bought one to go with my DJI Air2S and I love it.
My first guess was the ewe (sp?) trees looked at least 500 years old. I was right! Not a tree expert but somehow I guessed. Elmsworth reminds me a lot of scenes from early 70's British movies I'd seen. "That must be probably.." haha. I think you meant That must probably be... The ministry of tourism should be paying you for these videos.
ON THE BORDER (verse 69 of 180) Lord Emsworth did not live here the man never existed.. He stayed in Blandings Castle P.G. Wodehouse insisted.. There is no Blandings Castle but pigs might just have wings.. Why not embrace the Wodehouse mind? and all escape it brings. JB21

Thanks, Michael. I will do my best.
I totally agree Michael. This could go straight onto the telly. Such a good blend of facts and entertainment. Well done Richard.
Excellent video Richard, I think this is the perfect style. A nice mix of story telling, voice overs, and the added drone shots.
An outrageously enjoyable video....
I am so pleased you liked it. Thanks, John.
Most enjoyable! I like this new format and love seeing the pretty villages and interesting architecture, well done Richard, I think you’re onto a winner!
Like the new format, makes more sense and a better use of your time and ability to cover ongoing and new subjects.
Glad you like it!
Really love the mangle!
Great presentation. Much improved being longer. Looking forward to the next
Great format, enjoyed it very much.

Loved Emsworth and the current format. Cheers.
I live in Emsworth Richard and I along the Sussex border path to Westbourne most mornings. Lovely video, thank you!
How lovely - both are wonderful places. Thanks for watching.
This is your best format and much
Appreciated. I thank you.
Another honest video, you really do deserve far more viewers. Enjoyed this one very much.

Your poor hand!
Fabulous video. Loving this new style.
Thanks so much - much appreciated.

Thoroughly enjoyed this longer format Richard, it’s all so professional and joyful to watch , thankyou x

Well done! You squeezed a lot into that, without draining the enjoyment...
Phew, that's a relief!
A great video, the drone shots give us a good perspective of where you were. We like the format.

I am trying to incorporate all my themes together rather than as separate series. It got too confusing.
I disagree Matthew as I though it worked well. It was a reference to the old days & also linked to Richard getting ready to go out on his travels
Lovely trees.....talking of trees whatever happened to the acorns you planted a while back?
They are in pots in Julia's garden.
Very enjoyable, loving the new look video

Have you got a wringer and a scrubbing board or just taken them down the river and beat them with a rock. If you gonna do them properly. 😊

Love this.

It is fimi 8 something or other.

The mangle might not do buttons much good?
Hadn't thought of that!
Very good point, today's buttons don't need to be mangle-proof....
Didn't get to the famous Westbourne bakery then?
Not heard of it.
When I was a child......I got my arm stuck in a mangle. It did hurt.
I bet it did!
