Hi larry great 1968 list my favorite albums from this year are : the beatles White album, the kinks village green, the moody blues in search of the lost chord, the rolling stones beggars banquet, Pink Floyd saucerful of secrets, the doors waiting for the sun, golden earrings miracle mirror 👍✌️
Friends, The BEATLES, and Randy Newman are my top three. Happy you gave Stack-O-Tracks a listen. I didn't realize how much the backing track for "Salt Lake City" rocked until I heard that
I agree with most of your ranking. I'd personally have both Electric Ladyland and Odessey and Oracle in S tier, but I will always respect your opinions 👍xxxx.
I love my music, but I'm constantly stunned by how many albums you're familiar with. I know Bookends, Lost Chord, Saucerful, Friends and The White Album. The rest are just titles I've heard of.
The Spirit debut I would absolutely place in S. Probably the most proto-prog (rock) album out there that no progsters ever acknowledge. ‘A Saucerful Of Secrets’ is a worthy follow up to ‘Piper’ and definitely in A tier. Only real thing holding it back would be the 11 minute title track, which is still pretty cool. ‘Electric Ladyland’ is not the most immediate thing on first listen, but it grows on you the more you hear it. I prefer the first 2 albums, but I would still put it in A. If you like ‘Sticky Fingers’, I feel like you can grow to really appreciate ‘Beggars Banquet’. It may take time to fully familiarize yourself with it, but it’s totally worth it. I would recommend the first 2 Blood, Sweat & Tears albums. Same year, but both very different. The first one (Child Is Father To The Man) reminds me a bit of Three Dog Night. With Al Kooper leading, it’s more rock oriented than their other stuff. Good album, but I prefer the David Clayton Thomas fronted 2nd album (self-titled). Sonically, there really is no other album from that time that was as well recorded and produced as this album. Now produced by Buckinghams and Chicago producer, James William Guercio, the band goes in a different, more jazz-leaning direction. Some of the finest musicianship heard on a ‘60s record. Good record to hear during winter. The other recommendation is the 2nd Traffic album (self-titled). A step-up from the debut (Mr. Fantasy). One of my go-to albums when I want a feel-good album. I would also remind you of ‘Truth’ by Jeff Beck, which I’m sure you’ve heard before but forgot.
You need to hear "Electric Ladyland" some more. I think it's a brilliant album, "S" tier. But, I can see why some might lose patience with the longer songs.
@@c.s.mcleod7383 If you remove the two very lengthy tracks on "Electric Ladyland", you're left with one heck of a good singular album. Take track 2 and 3 from Side One, Track 2, 3, 4 and 5 from Side Two. Track 1 from Side Three, And track 1, 2, 3 and 4 from Side Four, and that's an amazing singular album. But, Jimi Hendrix wanted those experimental and lengthier tracks on the album.
The only albums I owned from this list Larry are the Beatles White Album and Electric Lady Land by Jimi Hendrix and I don't think any band got more out of one song then Iron Butterfly did with In A Gada Da Vida,it's the only thing they ever did of consequence but they milked it for all it's worth, good for them. Bob
Larry.. You built this channel on rock and roll :D I am not to fond of most things on side A of Electric Ladyland. Most of the other three parts is terrific. I didn't quite get Beggars Banquet until I heard it with really good headphones. The album did rise plenty for me with the right sound quality. S-Tier for me would be Simon & Garfunkel, The Rolling Stones and The Band. Maybe Jimi Hendrix as well.
44 is a lot more than I know but the ones I do know are excellent. The ones from your list that I would put in S tier are: Electric Ladyland Beggars Banquet Odessey and Oracle Waiting for the Sun The White Album White Light/ White Heat Friends…. was that on your list? I would add the two Tyrannosaur Rex albums - My People Were Fair…. and Prophets, Seers and Sages…. I would also add Cream’s Wheels of Fire. Nazz’s debut is also excellent but I only heard that for the first time about a year ago so that would be A tier for now. You must have been a cool little 10 year old listening to The Grateful Dead back in the day 😎 I tried listening to that Kinks album again recently and I couldn’t get through it.
Mannnn, that Dr John album is one of my favorite albums ever! I connect with it more because I have cajun heritage in my family. I completely understand why you and other people won’t get into tho very much like Trout Mask Replicia that I can’t get into
@@LarryGravesCanadianStudmuffinWith all due respect Mr. Graves, if there’s one Cream album to hear, it’s that one. It’s Cream breaking out of their bluesy comfort zone and making some really interesting pieces of music. I like their first two, but ‘Wheels Of Fire’ is what really made me appreciate them, not just as musicians, but as composers. Just my two cents.
@@LarryGravesCanadianStudmuffinBut I bet not in a really long time. Come next month, Larry, you might get it as a patreon request. As someone who has never supported patreon, I would be willing to do so, if it meant that Cream gets a re-evaluation. Think of it this way, you’d be getting my hard earned money, just to rethink Cream. Even if you hate it, I wouldn’t regret my loss of money.
John made the best album and worst album that year! The list is good however I would put Beggar's Banquet in S tier with only the Fab Four being ahead of them.
Hi Larry I think with the Hendrix album it being a double it gets boring because its so long what I used to do 99 percent of the time i played side 1 and 4 its excellent that way. if you still want more play 2 and 3 you would probably like it better that way

Ranking rock Albums from 1985.thanks.its an interesting year.

Born in 68 and rocking the white album, yeah that's me
Totally agree with you on Beggar's Banquet. A few great songs. Together with too many so-so songs on it.
IMO 1968 and 1971 were absolutely the pinnacle lists of the best of classic rock!
Yes! Astral Weeks is S.
I love the band one of my favourite Canadian rock bands
I love my music, but I'm constantly stunned by how many albums you're familiar with.

More high quality entertainment! 😊😊😊😊😊
Elvis 1968 comeback special was a great album.
White Album #1.

I'd have The Rolling Stones' and The Zombies' albums in "S" tier. Those are two of my favorite albums from the '60's. Both are in my all time Top 40.

I have to agree. There are a handful of great songs. But less than great fill out the album.

Time to expand your classic rock education
@@tdunph4250Seriously.
You're a bit harsh on John and Yoko..."Two Minutes Silence" is not that bad...
It's so relaxing!!
I like to crank it up LOUD so the neighbours can't hear it.

Im just wondering where you would rank Wild Honey by The Beach Boys @LarryGravesCanadianStudmuffin ?
Let's hope he does a 1967 episode :) that album came out in December just before '68
A tier for sure.

Procol Harum's Shine on Brightly is also a good album.
I'd add Nirvana - the story of Simon simopath and put it in S tier
These albums make me want to protest against the Vietnam War.
It's never too late!
Larry, you and I clash, but overall we have very similar tastes. I guess my issue is you give Sparks too much adoration.
Why can't I give them adoration if I love them? We all like what we like... thanks.
@LarryGravesCanadianStudmuffin My focus would be on David Lindley. We are all unique!
Larry, Roll over Beethoven that happened to be her favorite song
Not a knock, but no Wheels of Fire by Cream? Just curious.
There are always going to be some bands missing from these tier lists. I was never a big fan of Cream.

Most of these were a little before my time, but glad that the White album is at the top. Interesting that John Lennon has the best and the worst!
