  • In this video I am woodturning a dinner plate out of some thin Satine wood that I had lying around for years. These are actually the first wooden dinner plates of this type I have ever turned, although I have done many decorative platters over the years. The dimensions and proportions were loosely based off some nice dinnerware we have in our home. This is a great project for beginner and intermediate woodturners alike.

Great video, Frank! Was looking to turn down a set of plates sometime soon, and this gave me a fantastic place to start.

Amazing plates Frank, your shaping of these is amazing to watch and learn from. The Satine is such a beautiful wood and what shows through on these is that amazing grain and the natural beauty of Its colours that gives these such depth and smooth lines.
    Keep on turning.
    Cheers, Bluey 👍

What did you rub them with? Oil? Wax? Something foodsafe, I imagine? Thanks.
