Unless you are buying handbags made from natural fibres, leather is really one of the most environmentally friendly materials to get a bag in, as they have similar impacts on the environment as plastic leather or 'vegan' leather, but won't take a thousand years to decompose once you, or the person you pass it on to, are through with it. It is also much more hard wearing than natural fibres, as long as you look after it and buy good quality leather. If it is a moral thing, then you do you, but its a good thing to keep in mind
Yeah I always think this but I personally don’t like leather because of how we source it. We also breed far too many cows that produce harmful gases. But I really am changing I never thought about fabrics and now I do! Wool, silk, cottons! But hardly ever animals even though they are environmentally friendly ( too an extent. They wouldn’t if you killed off an animal that largely contributes to an eco system) because it doesn’t match my ethics and values. Plastic leather isn’t that great though... it’s plastic.

Plastic is made from oil, and plastic is usually produced in countries that are a long way away from Europe, so you've the effect of the transport on the earth too. Leather from local animals has a similar effect on the climate as plastic does, and it actually decomposes
Another thing to take in account is that cows are breed for meat, leather is the sub-product. If we do not use the leather the industry will either find another usage for it or it would be consider residue. The demand for meat is a lot higher than the one for leather, stop using leather will not reduce the cattle breeding. We would need a significant share of global population to stop eating meat in order to reach a scenario in which we would be killing animals for the leather.
If you do take handwritten notes I would recommend the Apple pencil. I love mine for taking notes in my lectures (so I use mine everyday since over a year). But when you get the pencil I highly recommend also buying a "paper like" Screenprotector, which makes the experience more pleasent :)

Just finished 'Becoming' on audible for my book group and the ladies and i who used audible absolutely loved it because it's michelle narrating but those that read it on prime or Apple found it hard to get into. Audible was definitely my best purchase of 2019!

I’m glad you touched on the interior design part, because it did irk me a little bit by how much you were ordering that you didn’t like, which to me equals more packaging and transportation that has stronger negative impact on the environment. But at the same time I completely understood the need to find the perfect fit. I’m just happy to hear that you feel more grounded and understand your tastes better. 😊
I’m also thorn between fake or real leather bags. This because plastic is so bad for the environment and leather is more sustainable.. plastic most of the time ends up in nature and the ocean which kills a thousand or more animals than the production of a designer handbag killes... so it’s choosing between two evils I guess.. still prefer leather a bit more because i keep my bags forever and it ends up being more sustainable and better for nature dan buying maybe 3 bags that don’t last as long. Hope the industry finds a way to make bags in a material that lasts as long and is cruelty free, vegan and recyclable or compostable in the very long run or something like that. I think in the future they might have labmade leather ( not from animals but human created if you understand what i’m saying) we’ll see!

Hi Lydia It’s definitely possible to upload your audibles into the iBooks app. You have to download the files from your audible library and then load then into the books app. Loved this video!
Hey Lydia! Right so. I’m a laptop and physical diary person. Always have been, had a small iPad just to read from and use as a commuter. I then invested in my iPad Pro with a pen and it’s honestly so helpful.i still use my laptop but heavily reduced. Definitely get yourself the pen and a digital planner. I have notability which is AMAZING. I loooove it. But I just bought a digital planner as I keep changing bags and forgetting my diary. I can customise it, and stickers, erase stuff, change pen styles and colours- everything. Then turn it into a pdf if needed and can keep it for however long I want a it’s undated. It’s always on me. I am very sure you can find one to connect to a calendar too. I’d suggest looking into it, I know having a physical one is great especially as it requires no electricity, but with the pen I still get the benefits of writing it out.
Thank you for being honest about the purchases that you made that you felt were a waste of money or did not suit your style. I learned about the quality, fit, fabrics, prices, style and styling from videos such as this and that is extremely helpful for planning future purchases. Also thank you for being transparent about whether or not to collaborate with Audible. I loved how you like the product/service but as a business partner, you had certain business goals that you did not settle on. I respect this so much. I learned quite a few lessons from my shopping during 2019 and it was wonderful hearing how open you were about how you would shop differently now.
Amazon has Kindle. The Kindle has a ton of options on books to download and or audible books! It’s also kept in on app to easily find the books you’ve purchased. Plus, there are a ton of free books including the audible!
I love your set up for your sitdown videos in your dressing room. It looks brighter and cleaner. There is a slight echo but if you put down some kind of temporary padding on the floor while you film your sitdowns it would be perfect!
I use a pillow bottom lap desk under my iPad when I lay on the couch . It keeps it stable plus is an extra protection form the EMFs cooking your internal organs. You can get them on Amazon.
Unsure if you’ll see this comment but can highly recommend getting the pencil for your iPad - and also a “PaperLike” screen protector which makes it feel more like you’re writing on paper. So good for notes/journaling etc.
I am over the moon to hear you speak about guilt over leather!!!! I am a vegan fashionista and it is impossible to completely cut it out when buying luxury fashion. Can you please use your platform and clout with the brands to influence them to use alternate materials. I know Chanel came out with some pineapple leather pieces. I want to see more of this. I’m in total agreement about the conundrum with leather - because I also don’t want a bag made of plastic, particularly PVC which is the most common and also very environmentally damaging. I have two small leather bags, one canvas & leather, and one faux leather - and I was on the hunt for a small backpack that could hopefully also become a tote (for work settings) and I bike a lot and wanted the backpack versatility and so I was researching leather and nonleather options, considered recycled nylon but wanted something that read as less sporty because I planned to use it for work too - and found this awesome Kickstarter company called bobobark which uses cork and I’m super excited for it to arrive

I really feel you lydia - I also feel so conflicted for wearing leather all the time, but I just love designer handbags and feel sooo good while wearing. Plus all the time I wear a designer handbag it brings me right back to the moment I bought it and that time of my life and the accomplishment it was for. So what I tell myself: a designer bag is such a huge amount of money that goes toward it. And before spending I always think long and hard about it. Of course they are made out of beautiful leather, but while other people are buying new handbags very often and also trash them so fast, I rarely buy new handbags and never trash them. And even if you fall out of love with one style of bag, you can sell it on to a new home. So even tho the bags are made out of animals, my bags are never going to waste...

I don’t agree with shaming because you have or use leather items. It is a resource and sooooo many people use it or have it without even realizing it. That puts many cultures down such as Native Americans and most native and tribal people who use and depend on animal skins, furs and meat for food, clothing and warmth.

Fun fact: most of the leather (if not all), except rare ones, that's used in the fashion industry actually comes from food industry, so no "additional" animals are killed for it. As long as the meat industry is as big as it is, leather (and suede and nubuck...) are much more environmentally friendly than faux leather.
I loved hearing about your growth when you spoke about being more holistic when buying things. I have always thought that things that scream which LABELS it is aren't really that appealing...Tony Robbins talks about why people wear or carry bold labels, super interesting.
Leather as a by product of food is at least explainable as most humans do need meat and if you do stay with farm raised, cruelty free it can be a compromise. However fur for adornment has no meaning but vanity so takes a certain breed of human to indulge.

Faux leather is plastic, so what's more eco friendly? Leather taken from an animal that's going to get slaughtered anyways or incentivizing the production of more plastic?
Not all faux leather is plastic. Designers like Stella McCartney are making leather out of things like mushrooms. About real leather only comes from slaugtherhouses is also a misconception. Cows in eg India are often killed for leather and not for the meat, and if you don't support animals being killed for meat - why would you support them being killed for their skin?
I think the Gucci loafers would be perfect for Smartworks donation. Can you imagine the confidence of those sweet women going into interviews wearing Gucci loafers? I was wondering, what happens if you wear that Gucci blazer with a pair of nice trousers in the warm color of the blazer, probably dark brown or maybe leather brown and the pair of Gucci loafers (or the jimmy choos 😍 which I LOVE)? I believe that you thought about all the possible ways to wear it but I was thinking maybe is a nice way to wear it for a casual weekend out (in the golf course maybe😂) not for the girl boss moments 💪 If you have not, and you want to, you should try that idea to see how it fits you! ☺️
What has been your issue with pushing videos live from your phone? Is it the size / length of the videos? I set my videos up and then push them at the appropriate time from my phone and the process has been seamless ...

Buying second hand is maybe the best option! It may be a leather or a good quality plasatic item, but if it lasted long, it will too.

It’s definitely possible to upload your audibles into the iBooks app. You have to download the files from your audible library and then load then into the books app. Loved this video!

Right so. I’m a laptop and physical diary person. Always have been, had a small iPad just to read from and use as a commuter. I then invested in my iPad Pro with a pen and it’s honestly so helpful.i still use my laptop but heavily reduced. Definitely get yourself the pen and a digital planner. I have notability which is AMAZING. I loooove it. But I just bought a digital planner as I keep changing bags and forgetting my diary. I can customise it, and stickers, erase stuff, change pen styles and colours- everything. Then turn it into a pdf if needed and can keep it for however long I want a it’s undated. It’s always on me. I am very sure you can find one to connect to a calendar too.
I’d suggest looking into it, I know having a physical one is great especially as it requires no electricity, but with the pen I still get the benefits of writing it out.
FYI...Audible is part of Amazon. You can get Kindle ebooks (which are Amazon’s ebooks) that come with Audible.

Amazon has Kindle. The Kindle has a ton of options on books to download and or audible books! It’s also kept in on app to easily find the books you’ve purchased. Plus, there are a ton of free books including the audible!
Audible is owned by Amazon. You can download the Kindle app onto your iPad and read it there.
I love your set up for your sitdown videos in your dressing room. It looks brighter and cleaner. There is a slight echo but if you put down some kind of temporary padding on the floor while you film your sitdowns it would be perfect!
I use a pillow bottom lap desk under my iPad when I lay on the couch . It keeps it stable plus is an extra protection form the EMFs cooking your internal organs. You can get them on Amazon.

Unsure if you’ll see this comment but can highly recommend getting the pencil for your iPad - and also a “PaperLike” screen protector which makes it feel more like you’re writing on paper. So good for notes/journaling etc.
I am over the moon to hear you speak about guilt over leather!!!! I am a vegan fashionista and it is impossible to completely cut it out when buying luxury fashion. Can you please use your platform and clout with the brands to influence them to use alternate materials. I know Chanel came out with some pineapple leather pieces. I want to see more of this. They are also working on growing leather in a factory from stem cells!! Push that too!! I would be ever so grateful to you for doing this!!! Please and thank you!!

I’m in total agreement about the conundrum with leather - because I also don’t want a bag made of plastic, particularly PVC which is the most common and also very environmentally damaging. I have two small leather bags, one canvas & leather, and one faux leather - and I was on the hunt for a small backpack that could hopefully also become a tote (for work settings) and I bike a lot and wanted the backpack versatility and so I was researching leather and nonleather options, considered recycled nylon but wanted something that read as less sporty because I planned to use it for work too - and found this awesome Kickstarter company called bobobark which uses cork and I’m super excited for it to arrive

I really feel you lydia - I also feel so conflicted for wearing leather all the time, but I just love designer handbags and feel sooo good while wearing. Plus all the time I wear a designer handbag it brings me right back to the moment I bought it and that time of my life and the accomplishment it was for. So what I tell myself: a designer bag is such a huge amount of money that goes toward it. And before spending I always think long and hard about it. Of course they are made out of beautiful leather, but while other people are buying new handbags very often and also trash them so fast, I rarely buy new handbags and never trash them. And even if you fall out of love with one style of bag, you can sell it on to a new home. So even tho the bags are made out of animals, my bags are never going to waste...

I don’t agree with shaming because you have or use leather items. It is a resource and sooooo many people use it or have it without even realizing it. That puts many cultures down such as Native Americans and most native and tribal people who use and depend on animal skins, furs and meat for food, clothing and warmth.
there is a difference between using leather/meat/fur for survival and using it just because it looks good/feels good.

Fun fact: most of the leather (if not all), except rare ones, that's used in the fashion industry actually comes from food industry, so no "additional" animals are killed for it. As long as the meat industry is as big as it is, leather (and suede and nubuck...) are much more environmentally friendly than faux leather.

I loved hearing about your growth when you spoke about being more holistic when buying things. I have always thought that things that scream which LABELS it is aren't really that appealing...Tony Robbins talks about why people wear or carry bold labels, super interesting.
Leather as a by product of food is at least explainable as most humans do need meat and if you do stay with farm raised, cruelty free it can be a compromise. However fur for adornment has no meaning but vanity so takes a certain breed of human to indulge.

Faux leather is plastic, so what's more eco friendly? Leather taken from an animal that's going to get slaughtered anyways or incentivizing the production of more plastic?

Not all faux leather is plastic. Designers like Stella McCartney are making leather out of things like mushrooms. About real leather only comes from slaugtherhouses is also a misconception. Cows in eg India are often killed for leather and not for the meat, and if you don't support animals being killed for meat - why would you support them being killed for their skin?
I think the Gucci loafers would be perfect for Smartworks donation. Can you imagine the confidence of those sweet women going into interviews wearing Gucci loafers? Just a tip for wearing the gucci loafers pair them with ankle grazer pants that are on the high waist side. You will look taller and they would look so chic on you
I was wondering, what happens if you wear that Gucci blazer with a pair of nice trousers in the warm color of the blazer, probably dark brown or maybe leather brown and the pair of Gucci loafers (or the jimmy choos 😍 which I LOVE)? I believe that you thought about all the possible ways to wear it but I was thinking maybe is a nice way to wear it for a casual weekend out (in the golf course maybe😂) not for the girl boss moments 💪 If you have not, and you want to, you should try that idea to see how it fits you! ☺️
What has been your issue with pushing videos live from your phone? Is it the size / length of the videos? I set my videos up and then push them at the appropriate time from my phone and the process has been seamless ...

Just a little heads up! Leather is a waste product so actually very good. Faux leather is plastic and we all know the issues with plastic! But of course, everyone has their own opinions!
