Solent Ships is operated from Town Quay, the Old Town quarter of Southampton, where the Mayflower departed 400 years ago.
Utilising various cameras our small crew are dedicated in providing a window onto our historic waterfront in the Solent region. The ‘Captain’ of our crew is a licenced drone pilot and day skipper, with an added passion for photography.
This channel has a large library of drone footage, documenting (with commentary) the various vessels that sail by one of the busiest Ports in the UK. At Solent Ships, you can also access 24 hour live streaming video of the day-to-day movements of all shapes and sizes of marine traffic, an ever-changing view that is enjoyed by cruise ship enthusiasts and water watchers worldwide.
The channel is expanding with new camera locations and with regular live commentary and millions of views a month, Solent Ships is the most interactive shipping-based channel on UA-cam. TA Artillery for me early 80’s we we’re supposed to be training in crowd control in a hostile environment. We had the Colonel and BSM acting as a tv film crew. Our Lt “caught them filming sensitive areas and called out to us to stop them filming, so my mate lobbed a smoke grenade suddenly the BSM wasn’t a civvi anymore went mad trying to find out who did I it😂😂

Thank you for sharing. That brings back a lot of memories, especially of St Giles Church where I used to work. I'd forgotten just how far Imber Village was on the plains!

That's interesting shipmate. Were you there full time, or just on the special open days?
I making a film of the Imber, just thought the bus ride was interesting enough in the first place to upload as a separate film

@@SolentShips Posted for 2 years. I loved our time there. Watching the 6 week 'schemes' as the tanks, jets, choppers etc worked from one end of the plains to the other. I still hear the tanks rumbling and squealing their way up that hill and onto the plain going on exercises. Jets flew so low over the flats you could hand the pilots a cuppa lol. I used to watch the chinooks load up on the field at the back of St Giles church with the padre and fly off up to the plain. It's like time has flown by, yet stood still. My eldest son knew Imber very well as he served too and he knew all the tunnels . We have laughed at his stories of his time there.

Ahem, "Village of Warminster!" excuse me, a small town compared to Southampton may be? But not a village by any chance. We used to go shopping there in the 70s and 80s for 'Kwick Save' in town from Gillingham in Dorset. There was also a cheap indoor market there as well. Anyway, love the front of the bus ride, I keep saying I will do the Imber trip, but I never do.

@@SolentShips I used to work for BR/SWT, so I had no excuse for not going for cheap or free train travel from Southampton, but of course I was too busy working. This video reminded me that there were buses once a year, so thanks. Have you been to that village down on the Bovington tank range yet with a similar close off village with a church and school?

Thanks shipmate. I have no idea about buses, Route Master was the only one I knew, and I did see a few of those. Bu thanks very much, as I did see a small glass window the size of a book on the other seat, in the horizontal position, and no idea what it was for. Now I know, a drivers Periscope. Wish I had taken a look at it now. Sounds brilliant.
