Bloch Jason Samuels are fabulous shoes. awesome sound especially for the more light weight dancer. Available for the ladies in Matt black, patent black and white leather. Best decision ever to change over from Capezio (no disrespect meant to Capezio) which are perfect for the younger dancer and one that has feet still growing. They just can't compete when it comes to the more advanced older tappers out there .
I'm thinking about signing up for an adult tap class so I was searching for tips on shoes. Now I'm scrolling through your videos and see you are a huge Harry Potter fan, and I immediately subscribed! Love finding new people on UA-cam that I can relate to! Thanks for the video 😊
Perhaps an unpopular opinion but I had the block JSams for 3 years and found them very difficult to use. Didn’t help that they were to big on me but they were very heavy and felt too chunky for function. Also the heel taps were very quiet. My miller and Ben jazz-tap-masters arrived yesterday and they already feel a lot easier to use
Thanks for sharing this! I am interested more about the sound than the look of the shoe...my experience regards only Capezio tele tone taps and I was wandering if you can describe me the difference between Capezio and Bloch . Witch sounds better in your opinion? Thank you very much!
Hi Dana! I would say that the Bloch has a louder and fatter sound compared to the Capezio. However, both shoes that I own have a double build up underneath the tap. When you have a double build up it will give you a strong, loud, and well rounded sound when you dance. If you buy a standard Capezio tap shoe without a build up the sounds quality with be higher and more of a ping sound. I would say that in this case you can go with either Bloch Jason Samuel Smith Shoe or the Capezio K360 and get the same sound quality. Hope that helps!
Thanks for sharing this!! What would you recommend for young competition dancers? I want to recommend a good shoe to my classes while also being mindful that most of them are not finished growing. Thanks!
I have been tap dancing for a couple years so I’m not quite a begginer but I’m not a pro I’m only 12 years old so I don’t rlly have my own money I wear cg19s
I have a couple questions about your LaDucas: 1. The red and white heels look like Angeliques. Are they? I happen to think that's the best-looking LaDuca hard sole/tap style. 2. Why do you think LaDuca has the only heeled tap shoes that are worth it, as opposed to a pair of custom-made Capezios? Does a custom pair of Capezios cost more or not have anything different you feel justifies the price? 3. Have you ever bought (or are you currently looking into) a custom-made pair of flat LaDucas? Also, you mention the "wood" on the soles of the shoes, but they're actually hard leather. I would think a professional dancer of all people would know that! (No offense, it's just a common mistake that irritates me.) :)
Hi ! Great questions The red and white high heeled shoes are the Angelique's from LaDuca. They are custom built because I added a double build of wood to the bottom of the shoe to attach the taps onto. I agree that I prefer that style over the Roxie LaDuca tap shoe. In my experience searching for heeled tap shoes, LaDuca is the only company I could find that makes a tap shoe at a reasonable price. You can most definitely order a custom heel tap shoe from Capezio, but that can get very pricy. I have not purchased a custom pair of flat tap shoes from LaDuca. I know that you can schedule a meeting and have them create any shoe you want! They love to do custom orders. Sometimes they also have custom shoes during the annual LaDuca Summer Sale. The tap shoe is mostly made of leather, however the very bottom of Capezio K360's, Milller and Ben, and Laduca taps have a wood shank to attach the actual tap. Thanks for commenting!
@@EmilyJeanne OK, so hard leather soles with a wood shank to attach the taps? I'd just like to add that while I think the Angeliques are prettier, I don't think the Roxies are a bad-looking shoe. It kind of surprises me that you find custom-made LaDuca heels to be cheaper than custom-made Capezio heels, since LaDuca's premade styles are generally more expensive than Capezio's. (I'm kinda partial to Capezio because of the history behind the company, but then again I'm not a dancer, just a shoe guy. :) ) If you haven't custom ordered any flat tap/character shoes from LaDuca, do you know any other female dancers who have? I'm just curious, because all of the premade LaDucas on the website are heels but they said when I emailed them about this that they could custom make a flat women's shoe.
@@EmilyJeanne Also, couldn't you (at least) theoretically get a custom pair of Capezio heels with a toe more like a LaDuca? I know Capezio has a premade pair of character and tap shoes (the Manhattan) with a more pointed toe and that they can modify some of these styles for a custom shoe.
@@hotwax9376 I agree that both the Angelique and the Roxie both have a great look. The Angelique is a little narrower on the foot and ankle which I prefer. The Roxie is a little wide for my particular foot. But I have danced in the Roxie for years. I personally haven’t order a custom capezio high heel shoe but I’m sure you can completely customize a shoe at capezio. The same goes for LaDuca. You can create a customized female flat tap! I just have never tried a custom flat tap LaDuca yet ! Hope that helps !
My daughter asked for the bloch tap shoes for xmas. She is an MT major and was just cast in 42nd street for second semester. The bloch are out of stock in her size, and I was going to buy her the Miller Ben. After watching this I think I will order her the K360. I know she loves you and when I say Emily suggested these she will be all in. Question though - it says to order a size or size in a half smaller than street shoe. Does that sound correct?
Hi ! Congratulations on your daughter being cast in 42nd street! Yes, I would definitely recommend the K360's over the miller and bens. My best advice is to give the Capezio store in NYC a call to ask about sizing and their exchange policy in case the shoes that you buy are the incorrect size. I would also ask your daughter if she thinks they will be tap dancing in high heels for 42nd street. If that is the case I would recommend the tan Laduca Rozy tap shoes!
@@EmilyJeanne She has tap class next semester so she is needing both heel and flat. I did email Laduca about the Roxy tap shoe and they said they did not think it would fit based on her size in the Annie and Teresa. What would be your next option for a heel?
@@mroberts4811 Okay so you could go with the Miller and Ben high heel tap shoes. Another option that Laduca does is you can purchase the soft soled character shoes that they sell and ask them to make them into tap shoes. For example some of my students purchased the elizabeths and had laduca put a wooden shank and taps on the bottom.
@@EmilyJeanne I looked at the website again, you have to call the theatrical department to get a custom build. Thank you for making me take another look. :)

Tap and Harry Potter! The two best things!
I’m getting a shiny blue pair of Bloch Jason Samuels for Christmas this year, actually cannot wait
Nice tap shoes Emily!
Many thanks, sound advice.
I vote for the red ones
miller and ben are the best no question

I really dont know what to buy. I’v tryed the Jsams and they Are so wide on me 🙃 i guess i have to go with the k360s
Yeah, sometimes the Jsams are wide. The nice thing about Capezio K360 is you can ask for a specific width size when you order!
Thanks for sharing this!! What would you recommend for young competition dancers? I want to recommend a good shoe to my classes while also being mindful that most of them are not finished growing. Thanks!
Hi Janelle, you can look into anything by capezio or bloch for young dancers who's feet are still growing. The tap tap shoes aren't too expensive.
Do you recommend the Laduca Roxy over the Miller & Ben T Strap High Heel Shoe?
Yes I do. The Miller & Ben are very thick shoes and take a very long time to break in. You could also get a custom Sapezio high heel tap shoe.
I was wondering if you would recommend split-sole versus solid sole tap shoes? I'm in a college musical theatre program and am looking for new taps!
I prefer solid sole tap shoes!!!

Where/ how do you store all of your dance shoes? I have maybe 1/10 of the amount you have and it’s still tricky for me.
