I also love both shoes for beginners. I also have a few advanced dancers with very strong feet but not very flexible arches that do well in the Ava's. Am thrilled that Capezio is now making the Ava in a harder shank - sure wish they would also make the Ava with a tapered box option as I have several dancers that would thrive in that shoe if it weren't for that rather square box.

Capezio bought Selva back in the day. I LOVED Selva when I was little. They fit perfect and I didn't have to fuss much. They also had suede on the tie, which Capezio had a long time ago, which they called Duro toe. The only brand I've found that has suede is the Russian. Though, Capezio is my go to for years, wish they had the Duro toe, I'm a lazy dancer!! Lol

Calling from a Pointe shoe? Gonna try that too 😂 Hang on there josephine ❤️💐 BTW I have a question: during quarantaine I tried out all my old shoes that didn't work for me. And it turned out that most of them works fine for me now. Should I save money and go through all of them till they all die? Or should just stick to my current pairs because I do need a few minutes at the barre to get used to a new model every time. Looking forward to the next video ❤️ thank you and wish you all the best 💐

I wear kylee’s (which I was fitted for by Josephine!). I like them a lot, but the heel is definitely very low and for me sits in an awkward spot. I never use to put tape on my heels but I do now to help grip the shoe and prevent heel blisters. Anyways, I also struggle getting on the box because I have flat feet and inflexible ankles and the kylees have helped me.

Hello and thank you for your most interesting videos. Are the boxes of some point shoes squishier than others when the dancers are on point? I was watching videos of Russian ballerinas and it looked like the tips of their point shoes were flattening out when they were on point. They looked ‘softer’ than other point shoes I have seen. Best wishes to you during this very tough time and stay healthy. ❤️

I have the Capezio Kylee and I have some questions about them.
    1. Everytime I go up onto pointe, the shoe sickles and it looks really weird. How do I fix that?
    2. When I go up onto pointe, my heel seems to sink backwards, which doesn't look very flattering. It makes my foot kind of look like it has no flexibility (my feet aren't too flexible, but they have some). Do you know why this is happening? My teacher said that I might need to get a shoe with a 3/4 shank. Do you agree?

It seems that people love them or hate them. As long as they don't say it's a cheat shoe, I don't mind. No pointe shoe is a cheat shoe and being confortable is something that pretty new, but it doesn't diminish the art, it's just better for our bodies. Anyway, my 2 cents.

I do have some questions about three quartering shanks, though - when would it be beneficial to do this? I've been playing around with one of my almost dead pairs and found that I had a lot more control in the shoe and could manipulate my foot more with the shank 3/4. When would be a good or a bad time to do this, what's the main purpose of 3/4 a shoe?

I tried the ultimo one time, the toe box was too wide and I ended up losing both big toenails and had to dance swan queen with no toenails. Hi Josephine, does the Ava run wider than the European Balance? I loved my Blochs (Serenade, Aspiration, European Balance, Eurostretch) but the problems I always had with them is that they weren't wide enough, their profiles were too low and their vamps too short (especially in the Serenade). I switched to RP Muse (and next time I'll have to go a width up) but I'd really would like to try GM and Capezio.

What are you thoughts on the Airess Josephine? I am looking for a change from the Grishko 2007 hard shanks and I have been breaking them after only a few classes and breaking both high in my arch and low just behind the ball of my foot!

    • @megankurtz6031
      @megankurtz6031 4 роки тому +2

I definitely am not as talented as Josephine, but I am a pointe shoe fitter who actually wore an Airess for a while so I’ll give you my thoughts!
      Pros:
Super strong shank, good for my strong and high arched feet.
      Pretty easy to balance on.
      Cons:
Very “bubbly” in shape so not particularly flattering.
Was far too deep for my foot. I have a wide bone structure, but a quite thin (as in no fat) foot. Would be much better on a thicker foot.
The platform was so poorly made that it would become thin enough to feel my big toe through. However, this would have been back in 2016-2017 so they may have changed. My dance store does not carry them.
This made my have to layer up padding which I don’t like to do.
So basically I was not a huge fan. If I had to describe the foot that would fit best in it, I would say a thicker foot with a very slight taper to it and a dancer who is either very very strong or possibly a bit heavier in order for those shanks to live up to their potential.

My Capezio shoes back in the Day we’re Pavlova 4A. When I got back into ballet as an adult buying canvas shoes I asked the fitter what people with feet like mine do with out Pavlova or Nicolini and she said girls with feet that small don’t go up ☹️

I loved my Capezios . It was really all we had but I have weird feet. I needed a low back. Im sure there were probably better shoes but the lady who fitted me said they were the shoes for me. I was ❤️❤️❤️❤️. They could have given me Wish and I would have been thrilled but it was 45 years ago. They were about $30 my mom was horrified at the price lol.

Hi, I‘m an adult beginner and started pointe a while ago. My teacher recommended Bloch Triumph and said it’s a great shoe for beginners, what would you say? I‘m not happy with it. I used to be a rhythmic gymnast and we were on high demi point all day bare feet, so I thought my feet are quite strong. But I feel so wobbly on point shoes and I‘m really frustrated 😩 Unfortunately, there is no point shoe shop near my home. No chance for a fitting, because of corona I can‘t go anywhere..
do you think I should go to a fitting first before I do some footwork? I‘m about to order just a couple of point shoes and try... because I don‘t want to wait for months.
Thank you so much for your videos!! ❤️

Hi I am a ballet teacher I hope you do not mind me answering. Firstly I always have a issue when teachers recommend pointe shoes it then starts a unhealthy president for getting new shoes. Best thing to do is be fitted and listen to the fitter and how you feel in the shoe. T
here are so many things to consider and brands differ so much .I would advise doing some strengthening there are many videos on you tube for this. You are probably wobbly because you say your a beginner and when you say you started pointe a while ago its not ideal really you should ideally have 2-3 years of ballet classes before pointe work. The reason is although as adults our bones have ossified we still need the strength to lift up on pointe, the shoe should not do the work for you it relies on so many muscles to be engaged and the shoe is merely a support for that not a crutch so to speak to hoist ourselves up on. I would advise not buying shoes as it is such a gamble.
Virtual fittings like the Pointe shop has said and I think that would be a great for you. Josephine is in my opinion the Queen of Pointe shoe fittings even I am tempted to request a virtual fitting with her. It will not be month either before we are back visiting ballet shops. I work in the field of science also so take my word for it and all the very best.
Again hope you did not mind me replying to you. I am also happy to help. x

The Pointe Shop Hello dear Josephine, thank you so much for your kind reply! I would love ❤️ to have a fitting with you!! I‘m from a small town in Germany. Hopefully I can come to California at the end of the year and visit your shop 😁
My post was a few weeks ago, and in the meantime I had a virtual fitting with a shop. They send me a big box of pointe shoes to try on, and I now have very narrow Russian Pointes Rubin with a medium shank, and I‘m really happy with them. It was so so cool, I just put them on and bourred through the apartment 😂 With Blochs and Gaynors I can hardly take my hand off the bar, couldn‘t be more different!!
My feet are really narrow and long (US street size 11 1/2), and therefore the choice of shoes was a bit limited. I am also going to try Siberian Swan, appearently they are also a good choice for narrow feet and they offer to customize them for no extra money, that sounds interesting.
Love you 😘, thank you so much for your support!!

Debbie Carter de Bois Thank you so much for your answer! As written above, I have found pointes now that I‘m really happy with, my only problem is that they feel a bit slippery and I already had a fall on a turn. We are not allowed to use colophonium at our studio 😢 Is there any solution to this problem?
You are right, maybe it’s to early for me to do pointe, but I love it. I‘ve had many years of ballet lessons when I was young, but that was very much adapted for Rhythmic Gymnastics and it was ages ago, so I would still consider myself as a beginner. But because I can balance and turn and jump on relevé, my teacher thought it was okay to give it a try. Our studio opened up again last week, and thanks to my new shoes I was now put in the intermediate pointe class for those who can already do center work. I feel like the grandmother there at 46, but the girls are really sweet 😅 In my small town there are very few classes for adults.
Many ballet 🩰 teachers in Germany are not very helpful when it comes to finding the right pointe shoes. We don’t have many dance shops here, and those shops we have only sell two or three different brands. The teachers at my school are lovely, but they are from Russia. Where they were trained, they only had one brand of pointe shoes, and they just had to cope with it. They think that we are all a bit whiney and spoilt and fussy when we complain about our shoes 😂 But my teacher admitted that she didn‘t realize how bad my Blochs fitted me.
When she saw me after two months, she was full of praise how hard I had worked during lockdown because I was suddenly able to walk on pointe. When I said that I hadn‘t really practiced at all and it was all due to my new shoes, she didn‘t believe me at first 😅

Think my first and second pair were capezio’s cause that’s all they had in my area. The first one was awful with a suede tip and were just so narrow for my big fat foot. My second pair were contempra’s I think? But they were so much better. That was decades and decades ago though. I couldn’t wait to try different brands.

I have a bias love towards capezios.
Lemme explain: I was fit in the wrong shoes for my very first pair. My old studio told me nothing about pointe. I was shoved into a pre pointe class for two years and then was told I was ready. I was not.
I went to get fitted that summer, and just like my old coaches my fitter told me nothing. Nothing about how it should feel, what to look for, etc. I went into pointe completely blind. My fitter finally chose shoes from Bloch, which fit me fine, but did not define my arch at all. I didn’t know, so I went home with those.
I recently transferred studios and my first pair of shoes died. I got fitted a few weeks ago for a new pair, expecting to get a similar shoe. They had none of the same brand in my size, so we tried different ones. And thank god I did. They feel much more supported and do justice to my feet. My new pair are capezios. So thank you to that amazing fitter who walked me through what I should look for in my shoes, and thanks to capezio for my perfect pair

i have avas and in my opinion the “plush” inside is super annoying and it doesn’t grip my skin or tights like it is meant to. it honestly makes the heels slip off easier than another brand without that type of material inside. but other than that i love them

This is going to sound incredibly stupid but, I haven't danced since my childhood ballet classes and I never danced en pointe. Always wanted to but, then, as children do, I lost interest and moved on to horses. I done know what drew me to your videos but, now, at age 60, I seriously am just wanting a pair of pointe shoes to play in. There's no way my body could dance now. I just want to know what it feels like. Is that ridiculous?
