Wow! What a fast progression! Dude, your city is super dope, seems like it was built for skateboarders from the get go! It's just a dream to have such huge smooth surfaces to ride on! Plus all the lights, colors and just that style man.... It.s a surfer paradise!
Man you damn brave so fast pump track liao! U should definitely check out the other boards like the Slides & YOWs guarantee a different experience. I bought the decathlon out of curiosity, but I also have a YOW, man the difference is stark! The tilt is deeper so the surf feel is even more flowly, pronounced and even tighter carves! Less chance of jacknifing as I saw in your video. U can go to therideside and try out their boards even if you're not thinking of buying yet!
Dude I have to say, your editing skills are outstanding. Dynamic shots, interesting camera angles, extremely chill and positive music, and not to mention you DO look cool on the board! Awesome stuff. Greetings from South Africa!
Amazing compilation of surfskate learning, various beautiful environments and most important fun. Noob 55 year old downhill skateboarder and one of my comments (from sub) was to try surfskate to work on carving. Can’t even stand on the board, but will start training tomorrow (I have my own boards and bought 2 sets Carver C-7 that i put on today). Congrats on 4 week accelerated progression. Inspiring. 🙏🙇🏻♂️
Well done, mate! I stumbled across surf skating when my youngest child (12) asked for a longboard last year. Found that surf skating was sure more interesting than longboards and we decided to go for it. Neither of us could skate. I was 52 and she was 12. So, exactly 1 year ago today (13 Aug 2020) we bought the same board you did, the Decathlon Oxelo 540 Carve Bird. It was the birds and the price that attracted us too! It became a great papa and daughter bonding activity. Took us a month to get into it without having prior experience with boards but it then started to click and we are now carving the paths together. Love not having to put my foot down at all. Like 8km of carving with no foot down except on steep slopes and steps. I sure ain't gonna do ollies, flips n stuff. Too old for that shit! Just digging carving. Skate surfing is sick, man! Didn't know about the park in cashew. Gotta check it out! Tks for sharing! Keep on keepin' on, mate!👍🏽😀
Inspiring story, thanks for this. I’m next haha. I’ll be 49 next month, and just bought a longboard last week. Never been on one, but wanting to try for a while now. This pandemic is just adding another (welcomed) delay as I’m scared to death, haha. Been learning the basic this past week and enjoyed it so much. Never knew about surfskate but sounds like what I’ve been wanting to do in the first place; cruising for 8KM without putting my foot down, sounds exciting. Will give it a try next for sure.
It's addicting isn't it? When you realize each board is going to feel different. next thing you know, where did this collection of boards and parts come from?
Fantastic to see people my age taking up various things that usually younger people do. I’ve received got myself a mountain bike and just cruising around atm enjoying it a lot and I’ve thought about getting a cruiser board. Great to see someone my age trying new things. I don’t feeel as bad now
Just ordered my first longboard and watching videos to pass the time. Great video showing your development - looking great for just a few weeks! Also Singapore looks beautiful. Dedinitely want to go someday.
Brilliant video, man. I'm 37 and just started on boards a couple years back. I thought my cruiser was fun but this looks awesome! Totally getting one now!
I love that you didn’t give up, man. Also love how honest you were about how scary it is to go that fast! Very inspiring to see you get more and more comfortable too. Great work, keep it up
I'm 42 and I have the same board but I changed the wheels to a 70mm 78A for better grip. Barely a month of learning as I don't ride everyday and haven't skated before bin my life. I'm enjoying it alot though. You are brave I would not want to try a pump track, yet. 😁
I love to see how people all age start something new🤩 I'm 37 and ordered my first Skateboard some days ago. Was good at rollerskating when I was younger but didnt really try skateboarding but now I'm so excited😁 And this Surfskateboard is totally new to me but also pretty cool🤗
Nice video I got the same board for my 39th birthday a year ago. Then just switched out the wheels, bushings and bearings this year as a treat for 40th. its a nice fun board and to be fair great for the money
I also just bought my first surf skate a few weeks ago! I started surfing and wanted something for those off days!! I had no prior experience and skateboard before so it’s nice to see I’m not the only one, and inspiring to see you go! Going on a cruise now :)
Unfortunately at my age my back can't deal with hard boards anymore due to spine compression during hard carving sessions. Neverthless I'm a mechanical design engineer so I experimented. I found that if I move my carving trucks to flexible fiberglass/bamboo boards that the shock absorbing properties has allowed me to pump for a few hours where before just 30 minutes to 1 hour caused too much soreness and pain in my lower back. Now surf skating and even longboarding is doable again!!!
Your video it’s very encouraging and it inspire me to keep going on, I just started find it difficult want to give up but after watching your video I shall continue to work it out! And I love your video content! 👍🏻
Your video quality is amazing and I absolutely love your content! I'm 22 this year and your vids are definitely keeping me excited to grow up and learn more new things - especially with riding new boards and trying new hobbies!😁 Can I know what camera you're using currently - like your edit tools?
I feel your happiness and it makes me happy too! How long is that specific one you have? Keep up the great surfskating and good job you atw doing amazing 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
I've got an Oxelo Yamba big, pretty much stolen from my sister actually. And I think the board is a bit too flexy, or I'm too fat. So I was considering to see if I can find a deck which could go on those trucks as a "replacement". Is this similar to the Yamba or does it ride completely different?
Hi! I watched your video and I think it's great that you got a taste for a surf skate! I bought a Yow board last year and since then I've only been riding a surf skate! By the way, I made my first attempts at the age of 48! You're never too old to try something new!
I think surf skates are the best thing to happen to skating in a long time. You don't need a skatepark or a huge hill to have fun and when you're on the hills you can control your speed without sliding or dragging a foot. Good on you for wearing pads too, we've got to make them cool again, it's way easier to get hurt than people think. Skate on!
Keep at it man!! That was a pretty tough track to start out on and so I was happy to see you continue learning after that :) also the videography is beautiful, Singapore looks wonderful!
Really loved the video man! I really loved the music choices and all the shots and the storytelling. This made me wanna visit Singapore really man.. And yeah I am gonna buy the penny board prototype from decathlon for real now and start my skateboarding journey.
Keen on starting a new hobby!!!😍😍😍😍 I’m researching about it and came across your video! Great video!!! Didn’t know Decathlon have one!! Hopefully there’s still stock!
Great video man. I have family in Singapore and Malaysia but I'm living overseas at the moment. and the first 10 seconds of the video are just so nostalgic 😅
You will fine, my 1st surfskate at 40 years old and my 1st teacher broad also Oxelo Carve 540 Bird Longboard, Thanks him and now my 2nd one is YOW Chiba model
i picked up a surfskate earlier this year and i finally got a chance to try it today. omg it's so fun, def cant wait to see my progress, thanks for sharing your experience!
Oh man this video really hit home, and the production quality is incredible! At 35 I just bought the exact same board from Decathlon 2 weeks ago. 3 sessions in and I fell off in a concrete bowl and broke my foot. The fun and fear in this video is so relatable and entertaining!
I am in my late thirties and am learning long board tricks, I really appreciate your information about spraining your ankle and the fear. I'm going to be a bit more careful.
cool video shawn! got my decathlon board a year ago. as a beginner like myself, the board sure is stable and love it. really like seeing you ride the pump track. try bending and straighten your knees when you reach the hill and back down,as it creates thrust and speed. btw,wet surfaces are nasty. the board surface, cause i use it everyday, through time, the sand that acts as a grip to your feet will fall off slowly. so what i did, was scrape off all the sand, and replace it with grip tape, like on a traditional skateboard.(feet sticks real good). really love to use this board on pump tracks, bowl/pools, and going downhill on mellow hills. keep it up man!! - fariz, K.L.
Godamnit, Singapore has some beautiful, smooth, long skate paths! Meanwhile I'm over here in the UK with our crummy roads, rain and coldness. I'll have to book a ticket someday!
For those looking for more advice: if you wanna skate and train skate regularly, happy cruising, Seems like you also might like a Long wheel based oldskool skateboard with wider trucks, maybe slappy 10s, with some 60mm 93a dragon wheels, every skater finds their niche, penny is close to polarizer skating, flat deck 42 dance/boardwalk skating is very niche due to the hyper dexterity and alertness it requires, usually it takes over 300 hours to perfect a single trick, similarly to Popsicle skateboarding aka freestyle. What i always recommend when exploring skating, which... same age, ive been skating since i was 6... 1. Play with different niches, but explore the high quality products, if you choose to go cheap, that is fine, usually you can get away with slowly upgrading part by part, a bearing set for instance can be swapped so you can always have nice bearings. 2. what are your experiences you think translate to skateboarding, standing on a low beam and walking around balancing on it is a good start, slack lining is another. 3. Exerciser routine, can you afford to swap essentially to stretching constantly, if no routine and finding for exercise, can you add daily stretching and cardio in? 4.types of skateboarding for beginner friendliness in my personal opinion. a. freestyle , massive community base, wide range of board mods and options, backpacks and other designs exist to ease carry. b. oldskool , low impact friendly, can be fast can be slow, can be rough, can be soft, you can kinda design your own board around what your doing. c.streetsurfer/carver longer board, the one in the video matches thais roughly, they often use wide truck bases, smaller "longboard aestetics", these are often bought for introduction to downhill sliding, the cheap starter wheels, and bushings usually crap out but the wheels often are ok and bearings will be lower abec for more resistance (slower) in the start d. boardwalk/42 (i think it now ranges from like 39"length (popsicle is often 31-32") to 52 now. highly opinion driven community, mixing parts from different sports is common, trucks from here, wheels from this, i want this, its a creative blend of everything in a very low impact friend way of rding, i personally have a 39, with slappy 9" and some 93a spitfire 58mms e. longboard high speed, downhill, heavy boards, lots of opinions, lots of idks, i just know that your gonna want be well rounded in how boards react before jumping into longboarding, especially drop decks and high speed sliding. once i have my collection all realized one day ill cover all these indepth.
Another inspired latecomer to skateboarding here. Must have watched this video multiple times before deciding to buy the bird 540 which wasnt available for postage in the UK. As it happens I managed to get a new yow c hawk for a touch more before I could get to decathlon! Could you please tell me the song that's playing when you first try the board on the roof?
good on you man for trying new things, pumping is all in the legs. try to focus on bending on your knees and keeping your upper half level. As you come up with a bump let your knees absorb it then push back down on the other side. it's all about timing and feel. keep it up.
you should try working on finding that center balance and stance. i remember being at this stage, but i picked this up at 40+ during covid. look up kota watanabe and carver, watching his style made it so much more fun for me... GG
your content is legit as always! Love that you tried something that I'm not familiar with. Makes me want to give it a try! Got a longboard that I haven't touched in awhile, but watching you skate through SG- I think it's time to bring the board back out! And maybe try out surf skating too (especially since I love the carving feeling on the longboard!) Keep it up!
Just posted my own vlog on day one of playing around with my SurfSkate! Had to give you credit so hope you don't mind that I mentioned you in my vlog! ua-cam.com/video/HPOUOC6Mffo/v-deo.html
There are trucks that you can put on a longboard called shark surf skate, idk if you still want to ride longboard. I haven’t got them yet but they look fun
Dude I loved your video so much that’s a like and subscribe. I just ordered a long board.. I hope the board isn’t too heavy lol I might have to pick one of these up too.. my only concern? I’m a kinda of a big guy! (6’2”, 250lbs) I like that you found multiple boards. I’ve always wanted to own a board so knowing that they have different uses makes me want to look for one of these too.
I love surfskating. (not in the wet) speed on a pumptrack is key. That decathlon board is ok, but if you want to progress more, try a YOW, Carver CX or Smoothstar. Waterborne are ok too.
Great job man! Im 30 too and recently got back into skating. Got a 2nd hand landyachtz dinghy and loving it. I might try surfskate soon. Would recommend a good helmet though. Keep it up!🏄🏼♂️
Cool video and nice atittude bro. Keep pushing, and you will achieve your goal in no time, passion, fun and dedication are the keys to get into the skateboarding (Surfskate,longboard...) and you sure have those. Btw, how beautiful is Singapore, insane places.
I really enjoyed your video !!! I first watched your cruiser one with the Yamba Penny and it gives me want to try both !! Keep filming and sharing, really inspiring 🙏🏼 Peace from France
love the video bro.,.. can relate, just came back to SG after almost 6 years, got a mini cruiser and started learning to do manual skates.. i've been doing esk8 back in Dubai... stay safe bro
You're definitely an inspiration - can't tell that you're 30 by how easy you picked up surfskating! 🔥
Some experience from the previous boards and binging on surfskate tutorials helped. Hahah thanks for being a part of this journey 🙌🏻!
30 aint that old cmon bruh
@@heuksalman hahaha I was thinking the same thing with 29 .. I actually have a surfskate and learn like in a week! the tutorial do help Tho
Yo i got the same board in the vid just to say it has done me well. i love it.
Yeah I’m 33 and this video has me pumped!
Wow! What a fast progression! Dude, your city is super dope, seems like it was built for skateboarders from the get go! It's just a dream to have such huge smooth surfaces to ride on! Plus all the lights, colors and just that style man.... It.s a surfer paradise!
NEVER let age define what you can or cannot do. This was crazy fun and I’m definitely not gonna stop here!

love this comment!! Age should never stop people from pursuing dreams :)
She's underage? NEVER let age define what you can do!
Dude I have to say, your editing skills are outstanding. Dynamic shots, interesting camera angles, extremely chill and positive music, and not to mention you DO look cool on the board! Awesome stuff. Greetings from South Africa!

Same story here, 9 / 47 - but just bought our boards, this is day 1 :)
Just started at 32, intermediate skater and surfer my whole life and absolutely hooked!
It's addicting isn't it? When you realize each board is going to feel different. next thing you know, where did this collection of boards and parts come from?
Every single time, I'm on my 4th longboard now. 😂😂😂
yup!!! its a bit expensive for my income, but its so much fun!
About to be me with 4 boards lol
That’s where I’m at. Haha #muffafuzza
So true, I Started with 1 now I have 9 different setups😂😂
I'm 36 and I've just bought the exact same one a week ago in Barcelona ! I'll try to progress as fast as you did ! You make it look so easy !

The production quality is insane bro. I was hypnotized. What a beautiful city you live in.

Your honesty in the video makes it so enjoyable to watch!
I love that you didn’t give up, man. Also love how honest you were about how scary it is to go that fast! Very inspiring to see you get more and more comfortable too. Great work, keep it up
Hi I m 56 , beginning to skate soon.
I thought this is too late to start in 35) never skating, never surfing, so let’s surfskating))
You’re inspiring!!!
How’s it going ?
Dude that looks so much fun! Wow, I'm packing my bags for Singapore! What a city - so much smooth concrete!
Really admire the fact that your trying ur best to learn and is not afraid to try new things and not be shy about it
So nice to see you trying new things again. The pump track looks so hard!! Admire your courage! Great video!
I was way ahead of myself at the pump tracks. Hahah thank you!
surfskates have imo the best aesthetic. just ordered my first one at 33 after not skating for like 16 years. can't wait to try it out.
dude this is so cool, i started to learn how to skate in my mid 20's. kinda inspires me on buying another cruiser board
That was so much fun to watch, both your journey as well as the video itself. Love your attitude and sense of humor. Keep it up!
it rained. poor guy 😅. thanks for your sacrifice and review bro. I'm 37 and just went for surfskate classes. i'm so getting this board
Hi, your longboards design is pretty nice. Where can i buy it? Thanks for your response!
I'm turning 30 this Sept. Always wanted to cruise and skate. Looking at my first board, thanks for this 🧡 All the best.
Exciting!!! I just started and cant wait to skate all the places you went!
I'm 42 and I have the same board but I changed the wheels to a 70mm 78A for better grip. Barely a month of learning as I don't ride everyday and haven't skated before bin my life. I'm enjoying it alot though. You are brave I would not want to try a pump track, yet. 😁
Hi buddy, I am 43 and thinking of taking it up. Any specs or boards for beginners?
I love to see how people all age start something new🤩 I'm 37 and ordered my first Skateboard some days ago. Was good at rollerskating when I was younger but didnt really try skateboarding but now I'm so excited😁 And this Surfskateboard is totally new to me but also pretty cool🤗
The stadium looks like such an amazing place to skate 🥰 Great progress
I am 44 years old and waiting for my delivery. It will come in two days and I can't wait. Nice video.
Nice video I got the same board for my 39th birthday a year ago. Then just switched out the wheels, bushings and bearings this year as a treat for 40th.
its a nice fun board and to be fair great for the money
Haha, this was awesome, SUBSCRIBED! I'm 66 just bought a surf skate a couple of months ago & loving it! You are killing it! YEEEWWW!! :)
No kidding 66?! You’re a champ sir
Love how you guys warm up! Smart!!!
I also just bought my first surf skate a few weeks ago! I started surfing and wanted something for those off days!! I had no prior experience and skateboard before so it’s nice to see I’m not the only one, and inspiring to see you go!
Going on a cruise now :)
Wow I'm 48 and just got me a long board, my wife thought I was crazy lol. I love it
You're not crazy. Go for it!
Unfortunately at my age my back can't deal with hard boards anymore due to spine compression during hard carving sessions. Neverthless I'm a mechanical design engineer so I experimented. Amazing locations!! And you did great!
Your video it’s very encouraging and it inspire me to keep going on, I just started find it difficult want to give up but after watching your video I shall continue to work it out! And I love your video content! 👍🏻
Keep going on man. Go for classes to help speed up the process (therideside conducts surfskating classes in Singapore)
something about the ambient audio at 02:23 to 02:30 sound so soothing, it tears me up.
The way you edit the video is so cinematic! Nice!
Your video quality is amazing and I absolutely love your content! I'm 22 this year and your vids are definitely keeping me excited to grow up and learn more new things - especially with riding new boards and trying new hobbies!😁 Can I know what camera you're using currently - like your edit tools?
Thanks man, you’ve got time to experience so much! I’m using the Sony a7siii and editing with Premiere Pro
I’m a thirty year old and just bought a triton board to learn how to surf skate too! Thanks for the inspiration!
All the best man 🤙🏻
I feel your happiness and it makes me happy too! How long is that specific one you have? Keep up the great surfskating and good job you atw doing amazing 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
Glad you felt that way :) I think this board is 32 or 33. Been neglecting my surfskate unfortunately though
I might be wrong, but it kinda looks like you're accelerating like on a waveboard. Is this true or just a delusion?
I knew it was Singapore.... I was there last feb 2023.... It was a unique place.... And today i have just bought that carving skateboard!.
Can't wait to see more progression of your surf skating journey, you made me want to take up this as my hobby as well!!
Awesome, really enjoyed watching you have so much fun
Great to see more folks surfskating! Thanks for sharing the joy of surfskating!
Hi! I watched your video and I think it's great that you got a taste for a surf skate! I bought a Yow board last year and since then I've only been riding a surf skate! By the way, I made my first attempts at the age of 48! You're never too old to try something new!
That’s sweet man 🤙🏻
Man! This is inspiring. Just picked my pintail longboard, im psyched! Plus, i miss SG so much, cheers man
I’m definitely getting that surfscateboard.
Super montage...Singapour est une magnifique ville !
Would love to meet you one day for surfskating..I just bought a board from waterborne skatebord

Keen on starting a new hobby!!!😍😍😍😍
I’m researching about it and came across your video!
Great video!!!
Didn’t know Decathlon have one!!
Hopefully there’s still stock!
Nice! Might give this surf skate a try someday. Right now all i have is a 38” dropcruiser longboard.
Love this!!! Ordered a surf skate for my 40th Birthday! I would love to see you hit up that pump track again after all that practice!
Great video man. I have family in Singapore and Malaysia but I'm living overseas at the moment. and the first 10 seconds of the video are just so nostalgic 😅
Thanks for this amazing video I really enjoy it, and Singapore looks so incredible! you made me want to try surfskating
Awesome to see ur progress bro! I only saw the end result but glad u documented the beginnings!
Your first ride was 10x better than mine. Thanks for the SICK shots!
Hey what's the name of that dancing board you've got at 1:27? It looks pretty cool
Now i am going to buy one. It looks so much fun. Thanks for the great video
You will fine, my 1st surfskate at 40 years old and my 1st teacher broad also Oxelo Carve 540 Bird Longboard, Thanks him and now my 2nd one is YOW Chiba model

I wound like to see you try a Esk8 .I already have 6 of them to much fun.
I LOVE that deck. Is it available anywhere?
Am also a 27 year old boy who picked up skateboarding the past month. You are not alone and awesome work there !!!
Sweeet 👌🏻
thanks for the nice city walk ,j hope to come and ride one day 😜👍🤙

Naise. Thanks for the tips 👌🏻 I was using too much of my upper body for the pumping tracks. Kind wished decathlon didn’t use the sand as a grip
thanks for your experience
Godamnit, Singapore has some beautiful, smooth, long skate paths!
Meanwhile I'm over here in the UK with our crummy roads, rain and coldness.
I'll have to book a ticket someday!
😂 yeah we do have really smooth pathways in the city!
That stadium and bridge looks like a surf skater's heaven
I got a Surfskate board, first board, and the flexibility is taking a bit of getting used to! You're doing good man! Where's the pump track?
The production value of this video is off the charts. Wow, literally wow.

b. oldskool , low impact friendly, can be fast can be slow, can be rough, can be soft, you can kinda design your own board around what your doing.
c.streetsurfer/carver longer board, the one in the video matches thais roughly, they often use wide truck bases, smaller "longboard aestetics", these are often bought for introduction to downhill sliding, the cheap starter wheels, and bushings usually crap out but the wheels often are ok and bearings will be lower abec for more resistance (slower) in the start
d. boardwalk/42 (i think it now ranges from like 39"length (popsicle is often 31-32") to 52 now.
highly opinion driven community, mixing parts from different sports is common, trucks from here, wheels from this, i want this, its a creative blend of everything in a very low impact friend way of rding, i personally have a 39, with slappy 9" and some 93a spitfire 58mms
e. longboard high speed, downhill, heavy boards, lots of opinions, lots of idks, i just know that your gonna want be well rounded in how boards react before jumping into longboarding, especially drop decks and high speed sliding.
once i have my collection all realized one day ill cover all these indepth.
Learned how to use it by watching your videos great job man
This looks so fun. Thanks for beautiful footage. Where is that tunnel??
Recommended. Great. Ive never heard of this before. Surfskate. Nice
quite cool leh, this one no need to kick? just twist and it keeps going?
And maybe try out surf skating too (especially since I love the carving feeling on the longboard!)
Keep it up!
Thanks! Time to take that longboard out and ride 🤙🏻
I've never tried a surfskate, but I'm really tempted to set up a cruiser with surfskate trucks
I love surfskating. (not in the wet) speed on a pumptrack is key.
That decathlon board is ok, but if you want to progress more, try a YOW, Carver CX or Smoothstar. Waterborne are ok too.
I use the Carver C-7 and the CX trucks and they both are great. Just gotta re-adapt whenvever I switch between the two.
what a beutiful city! Singapore? I'm 35 and new to surfskate as well. found it really really fun too.
Love your determination! Keep it up!
33 and just started longboarding! 30s the new 20s!
all of these camera angles are amazing !
