Biggest con for me (as someone who lives in Denton) is that I-35 has just horrific construction. The biggest pro is that if you love art and music and great beer, then the extremely chill night life is for you. I love it here and I love being at the square and Fry Street because everyone is so nice to each other.
Thanks for tuning in! Yeah, the I-35 construction can be rough. But it’s great that you’re making the most of the vibrant art and music scene and the welcoming community in Denton.
Denton is an awesome little town that reminds me of Tucson. Very artsy vibes with nice restaurants and bars. I wish it wasn’t so far because it’s a great spot.
45 - 60 minutes here in the DFW metro is pretty much nothing in getting from one place to another. LOTS of people live here and commute to downtown Dallas or Ft. Worth. Denton is awesome. It's like living in a small college town that is within the massive DFW metroplex. You can pretty much fly anywhere nonstop from DFW Airport. The schools here are great. There is a huge art, music scene and there is a diverse population with all different kinds of folks! I hated living in Dallas.....the endless concrete subdivisions with all of the tan/beige/brown square brick houses......so Denton is "anti" that! Our house is teal with white trim and was built in 2020. Our neighborhood is full of colorful homes with great people. I'm less than 10 minutes from 50 restaurants. The gas station is about a mile from the house. Mall, pharmacy, great doctors, all right here.....less than 10 minutes away.
Major CON: Denton in my opinion is like San Francisco with street crime, hyper aggressive panhandling, yards being used as public restrooms, etc. Just saying as a former resident ...
Hey there! I’m an incoming freshman to UNT and I’m coming from Kansas City. I know Texas is very obsessed with car culture, but do you think I could get by with taking the train to Dallas if I ever wanted to? Great video!
@Aurora 51 pre-2020 it used to be free on the A-Train from Medpark to Downtown Denton and back. They were trying to solve the really awful UNT parking problem with public transit. Not sure about that whole deal now. A-Train dumps you at Trinity Mills Station, you have to buy a more expensive ticket to connect DCTA with the DART at that point (which is way less taken care of than the A-Train). It's possible to do, but a bit of a pain, have to keep tabs on if the bus or the train is running late but they've got apps. Some people commute like that on the daily, I'd only put up with it once in a while for a really good band.
Denton was once a hub for the backyard music scene, not so much anymore, the hipsters are all business owners these days so the grass root hippie vibe kind of dried up years ago.
@@Jacqueline-77 just be sure not to vote texas into another California PLEASE. No bore stables in the city but there are PLEANTY less than 15 mins from Denton. Grew up in Denton and started working at the stables nearby at 14.
Are you a realtor, or do you find people apartments too? I grew up in the DFW area. I'm fixing my dad's home in Little Elm up to sell. I guess I would call myself a "young" professional (I'm 32 lol). I'm wondering if I'm becoming too old for that college scene. I felt that way in Lubbock when I went to Texas Tech from 2018-21. I'm looking to live in an artsy, walkable area. I like to be around artists and musicians because I was once one at one time. So far, I've been looking at somewhere in the east Dallas region and Denton. Are there other areas to look for? Not really looking to buy a place. I would rather have the ability to move when the time is right.
Great small , city , not a sleeper town, colleges, lots of arts, music , I can get to Dallas much fast and ft worth , freeways gotten much better, Denton has been growing, now has 4 high school not that small,
Yes. There is a homeless issue here. The police will run you off of private property and some public areas (the square and downtown where the tourists are). Dallas County sends homeless people up here to get rid of them....they come in a bus and are dropped off in the WalMart parking lot. Denton has limited services for homeless folks. No free medical care in Denton County like there is in Dallas County (Dallas) at Parkland or Tarrant County (Ft. Worth) at John Peter Smith Medical Center. And I'll just point out that it's been over 100 degrees every day for a month here in Denton. It was 104 today.
Denton is boring. If you have kids, there will be hardly anything to do. I still have to look all the way in Dallas, Lewisville or Grapevine just to find something to do. Denton is only good for adult activities like Drinking, night parties and other things.
