Just wanted to say that I really enjoy that you are adding so many sample photos from some of the cameras now. Love seeing how all the different cameras render images.
I always am pleased when I see a lens work on the older cameras. My husband gave me a Fujifilm point and shoot camera for Christmas in 2013, and the lens got stuck after 4 years, it wasn't even 5 years old The pictures were at times were blurry. It sort of turned me off Fujifilm cameras. That was when I went out and bought the Canon ELPH 190 IS and that camera takes excellent pictures and has never let me down. I always look after my cameras so they are never just thrown around in a bag..
Thanks, and I am happy that you commented because I just clicked on your link and found you have a really sweet channel about vintage cams too, just subbed! Good stuff!
This new format with the inclusion of the photos, along with the already great running commentary is good. Hope it stays like this without being too much of a production burden, as it compels me (and hopefully others) to want to buy one of the cameras you're showing.
Thanks, I have gotten some good feedback about it as it was other viewers that were asking for it. It does add on quite a bit of time to editing and being able to get out and take pics, but hopefully it's worth it! Appreciate you watchin' !
Here in Massachusetts, I love shooting photos of the green chutes and especially the bright green skunk cabbage in the forest, as they push through the brown of last autumn.
I'm not much for cosmetics of items or even game characters but a white camera really does it for me, my EOS M is white and a keeper until it passes from over-use and wear and tear.. then I'll transplant a healthy EOS M into its body!

Nice! Those Samsung cameras with the Schneider lenses are very underrated. Especially the models like that 350 that goes down to f/2.4 They are similar to the Panasonics with the Leica lenses, just great image quality, much better than the more popular Powershot and CoolPix cameras IMO. Sucks about that ZS19 screen issue, I have the ZS15 and really like it. Some good cameras in this haul!
I had the solenoid issue with my Pentax K-S1. I tried all the same methods to try and release it without sucess. Apparently the reason this happens is if the camera isnt used for a long time. I did strip the entire camera ( not for the feint of heart ) and removed the faulty solinoid. I filed it down, put it back together and its worked perfectly ever since 😊 Oddly since I put such a lot of my heart & soul repairing it I'm reluctant to ever get rid of it even though I rarely ever use it.😋
The solenoid sanding method works, some people don't recommend it, because the solenoid tips can get rusty but if you keep the camera in a dry storage and keeping out of moisture, it should be fine. I fixed my K-500 that way about 6 months ago, and still going great.
I used a Kodak easy share with a portable printer dock that would print 4"x6" prints for years, took it coast to coast and loved it, I probably still have it somewhere. Kevin the Kodak King, I like the nickname. Thanks for the video!
I use a few depending on the Canon model, EOScount, shuttercount.com, and there are a few paid services I used to use that charged $.99 or $1.99 to check your shutter. There are some models that don't display the data.
As I may have mentioned here before, I have a 1J1 that came with a couple lenses, a 10mm (27mm) and an 18.5mm(49mm) both primes. Bought it at a thrift store for under $100. Fun little camera and very compact especially with the 10mm lens on it. Another fun and informative video, great work.
I'm looking forward to spring bird photography. I live in deep South Texas and javelina can be seen very often in nature parks down here munching on bird seed that birds drop from their feeders. I have quite a few images of them actually, all sizes and ages.
Hi Kevin. I am wondering if you would share how you find these camera lots.. I live in Denmark, and I have been trying to search for auctions but have not found anything so far that resembles these you show here. I am an amateur photographer myself, and to get to know more cameras and flipping some too I would appreciate a hint on where to start looking. Best regards. Bue.
Hi, well I would say about half of the auction items I buy are region specific local pickup only. As for the other half, there are estate sale auctions that often have camera equipment, eBay (of course), Charity shop Auctions, Government liquidation auctions (there are a number of those here in the US where surplus product is sold).
Thank you very much for the answer. I guess being such a small country is the main reason we don't have mutch in the way of estate sale and bulk auctions on used stuff. I have been fortunate to find some used cameras from thrift shops, about ½ og those in working order. That's actually where I started out the hobby with a collection of Takumar glass. However. Only something similar to Craigslist (I believe that's what it's called over there) is the only alternative to ebay if I want to shop somewhere locally. Regarding the pentax K50: wouldn't the lens be of "no value" because of the solenoid problem rather than the body because that's where that thing is? When it comes to solenoids, I'm reminded of the Sony Infrared magnet hack- see if you can work it by poking the lens around with a stacked magnet...
I just tested the lens on a Pentax KX that works fine, and the lens works well. Here's a video I found on replacing it and it's a part inside the body: ua-cam.com/video/DD5b2n_kq7g/v-deo.html
@@pricklypearcamera in this age of mirrorless lenses, I forgot that manual lenses has a body with solenoid actuator that physically pokes at the lens' aperture mechanism to get it working.
I also have a white Pentax K-r camera with the same white lens but it has shutter problems... it takes 2-3 pictures and then won't work for half an hour. The camera services here in Romania won't try to fix it because it's an old model... anyway, my first DSLR back in 2010 was a Pentax K-x and i took the most beautiful and meaningful pictures with it.. Great vid, congrats! 👍

Do you usually replace light sealing on old film cameras if it's really bad or just sell them AS IS and point it out in the description? To me it seems to be a real ordeal to do it every time?
I don't replace light sealing, and yes, labor intensive- I sell almost all film bodies AS IS, I just don't do huge volume in film and am not nearly as familiar as digital! :)
I used to do primarily auctions on eBay as a way of selling up until about 4 or 5 years ago when I went exclusively buy now- which requires payment prior to confirming purchase. So that's really helped out. Honestly, what you ask is why I stopped running auctions in the first place-so many non paying bidders! I use a large variety of sources-garage sales, estate sales, local auctions, gov. auctions, thrift stores, B2B, pawn shops, and a few more. I do also buy occasionally on eBay.
They were pricey, and had a limited lens selection. Though I think what really killed them was their adoption of h.265, which was not really supported by anyone yet. We were all downloading sketchy conversion programs just to get the files in a usable format.
Sure do! From untested lots, I've got a Panasonic GX85 that I shoot with pretty regularly. Lovely little M4/3 camera. Possibly my most recent favorite is the Nikon D750 DSLR body that I pulled out of a lot pretty recently. Was going to list it, but have been using it too much!

Great video as always, Kevin. One note, though - the camera jitter from having someone hold your camera is a bit distracting.
I love my K-50, a VERY nice DSLR, but mine is in sensible black.
Oxidation is an euphemism for rust.
Thanks genius. Btw blm and Zelinsky are scams
If not eBay, where are you buying the cameras?
I use a large variety of sources-garage sales, estate sales, local auctions, gov. auctions, thrift stores, B2B, pawn shops, and a few more. I do also buy occasionally on eBay.
Which one is the holy grail?
Depends on the eye of the beholder I suppose! For me it was the A850 as I just so rarely see it and it's a really cool camera to shoot with.
such a shame that Samsung left the camera market,. their cameras and lenses were excellent, and the design was streets ahead of the competition
Quite right! They had a good run of about 6-8 years of innovative cameras before they stopped production
Agree! I have an extremely tiny Samsung that I got used for a song. It shoots beautiful photos
They were pricey, and had a limited lens selection. Though I think what really killed them was their adoption of h.265, which was not really supported by anyone yet. We were all downloading sketchy conversion programs just to get the files in a usable format.
😀
Do you ever come across a camera in a lot that you like so much you end up keeping it for yourself? If so, which ones!
Your tripod grew legs
It did indeed, my son helped film the intro! His hands were a bit shaky, but I appreciate the help whenever I get it haha!
@@pricklypearcamera he was just going for the documentary/cinema verite feel 📹
The use of these cattle shoes goes back to prohibition here in the U.S. it is nothing new.
I am working on a film photography project taking photos at baseball games over the spring and summer. Hoping to make a photobook at the end of the season. Going to use a variety of film cameras.
Awesome, sounds like a really cool project!
I might be interested in that Sony A850
Hope to have it listed in the next few weeks!
