Hey guys! Thanks for watching our round 1 of Iron Maiden vs Girlfriend! Side note, our website is really messing up, I'm going to probably redo it. So Drew's music theory is up there, but if you don't see his audio recording, I'm sorry!
Iron Maiden is a good start..the songs are all ways telling a story..the music helps carry you to/through the story..try just the music, and story..Iron Maiden is Maiden..lol..Up Irons!!!.. music only a carries the the story if there is not tale to be told then....
Live performance by Iron Maiden is always spectacular , you should try Hallowed by thy name . Great performance by Bruce Dickinson in this video ..... ua-cam.com/video/7vP2hFFV57E/v-deo.html
Just FYI - Iron Maiden was a leader of a wave of heavy metal called "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" (usually abbreviated NWOBHM), which was an early movement in metal, and predated both Thrash and Glam (hair metal). That said, Maiden was a huge influence on both of those sub-genres, as well as others such as speed metal and progressive metal. Other NWOBHM bands included Motorhead, Saxon, and Venom. Iron Maiden don't still wear skintight spandex, thankfully, but they do tour and are actually touring North America this summer. You should check 'em out! And there recent albums from the past decade are really good. Hair/Glam metal certainly took some cues from them musically, and, yes, from KISS as well with regard to the makeup and theatrics (though frankly more from David Bowie), but the real pioneer of that style was Motley Crue, who formed a bit later (early 80's), and who influenced countless bands that wore makeup and dressed in a more androgynous style. And as a huge metalhead who LOVES Iron Maiden and thinks of them as my favorite band of all time, I have no issue with you giving 2 Minutes to Midnight an 8. It's a good song, but not my favorite of theirs. You should maybe try "Wasted Years" - it's a great song with some awesome guitar parts, but also very catchy. "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is a fantastic song, but I wouldn't actually recommend it to someone who doesn't generally like metal and is unfamiliar with its conventions. Maybe something like "The Trooper" or "Run to the Hills" would be good.
Let's not forget hallowed be thy name although rime of the ancient Mariner is number one.and even in the Paul Di'Annio years as the first lead singer ,the first two albums were awesome as well
The vocalist you were watching, Bruce Dickinson, is still singing for the band now. And he is a certified pilot and historian. He pilots the Ed Force One, Iron Maiden's private jet for world tour. 2 Minutes 2 Midnight is a good starter for Pamela. Their more complex songs like the Seventh Son or Powerslave or Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner might be next.
To clarify, Motley Crue, Ratt, Poison and Warrant were examples of what became known, after the fact, as hair metal. Back in the day we called it glam metal. Iron Maiden, though not thrash metal themselves, certainly had an influence on the thrash metal scene, as did Judas Priest. Going further, Queen did not invent thrash metal. Their song Stone Cold Crazy, however is part of the DNA of thrash, as is Budgie's song Bread Fan.
I'm seeing that Stone Cold Crazy was the first thrash metal song, but Iron Maiden paved the way for it. I remember seeing they had one of the first songs that was viewed as thrash.
@@metalconvert2324 Hair Metal/Glam Metal was mainly influenced by bands like Sweet, T-Rex, Slade (known as Glam Rock in the 70s). Bands like Metallica, Slayer or Anthrax had clear affinity to the "hard corner" of NWOBHM (Motörhead, Diamond Head, Tank, Venom and of course Iron Maiden and Judas Priest). But also bands like Def Leppard, Praying Mantis, Saxon or Demon were a part of the NWOBHM scene. They can easily be named as influence from NWOBHM to later Hair Metal. It's always difficult to find out the ways of influence. It gets even more difficult, cause the media often uses terms for a band or a song just due to the fact, it came out during a certain period of time or out of a certain geographical area. Every band in the late 70s/early 80s, who came from England and used to make hard music, that couldn't be described as punk, was automatically part of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. So you can say Def Leppard and Venom make the same kind of music. And in the early days Iron Maiden were used to be described as punkrock. No one with musical knowledge in Heavy Metal would compare a band like Manowar with Poison for example. But you can find "documentaries" they are both named as members of the genre "Hair Metal".
@@Bentzel75 No, it's classic Heavy Metal, not Power, not Death, not Black, not Thrash, nor any of their subgenres. Just plain old Heavy Metal, like Black Sabbath or Judas Priest.

I wouldn't say Iron Maiden was thrash metal exactly. They are usually included as one of the biggest bands, if not the biggest, in the "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" (NOWBHM), which immediately preceded the rise of thrash metal. I think Iron Maiden's music is more melodic and even operatic than most thrash bands like Megadeth and Anthrax. So it's more like they helped pave the way for the creation of thrash metal. Really enjoying this series!
Glad you liked my favourite band. Btw they are HEAVY metal. And after all these years they are still going. I saw them live last year and it was the best concert ever. Such great story tellers Can't wait to see other two songs

Bruce Dickinson, also known as The Siren that warns of the air raid, dude is one of the best metal singers, great singing voice, great enunciation, fantastic range, and dude's still kicking it nowadays.
They started in 1975, they were a part of The New Wave of English Metal, never played any thrash. They are NO WHERE NEAR Hair Metal. Poison, Motley Crue, Dokken these are Hair Metal. Just FYI. Check out Newer stuff like Blood Brothers or The Clansman live. Anything from Rock n Rio live is awesome and more recent performance. Bruce Dickinson has been back with the band since 1999. Iron Maiden was formed in the 70`s but they didn't release their first album until 1980. And they had a completely different singer. Maiden has been considered in the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal). Though, I think Maiden is now generally classified as one of the archetypal examples of Heavy Metal.

Glam metal (also known pejoratively as hair metal and often used synonymously with pop metal) is a subgenre of heavy metal, which features pop-influenced hooks and guitar riffs, and borrows from the fashion of 1970s glam rock. Glam metal is performed by music acts like Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, Kiss, the New York Dolls, and Van Halen. It arose in the late 1970s and early 1980s in the United States, particularly on the Los Angeles Sunset Strip music scene, pioneered by bands such as Mötley Crüe, Ratt, Quiet Riot, Stryper, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, and Dokken. It is popularity has risen since the early 2010s with bands like Steel Panther and was also popular throughout the mid-late 1980s , early 1990s bringing to prominence bands including Poison, Skid Row, Cinderella, and Warrant . Glam metal is associated with flashy clothing, makeup and notable for an overall androgynous aesthetic. Poison, for example, have long shaggy or backcombed hair, accessories, metal studs, leather, and make-up during their live performances.
Bruce was singer on this and left band after 92 Fear of the Dark and returned as singer in 2000 on album Brave New Order and is still with and recording and touring till this day
Another band she might like would be Kamelot, which is a American Power Metal band. The singer Roy Knan has had operatic training and it shows. Pick a song from the One Cold Winter's Night live show before it gets taken down again.
"Hair Metal" comes from the fact that these bands (in the day) used MOUNTAINS of hair spray to give that big hair effect .. Check out Stryper and how they evolved best from that era .. In fact, a good video to have fun with is "Radio" by Michael Sweet .. I think she would get a kick out of that ..
Great choice for a Maiden song. Everybody usually goes for "The Number of the Beast" so it's refreshing to choose something different. Not a huge Maiden fan anymore but I still go back to the classics, particularly the "Powerslave" record and I always find great joy in the listening experience.
Iron Maiden are considered New Wave Of British Heavy Metal... A lot of thrash bands are influenced by them though... Do Metallica Halo On Fire, I bet she'll love it!!

Your girlfriend is absolutely stunning. Iron Maiden is not a thrash metal band, there a genuine heavy metal band. You need to listen to Hallowed be thy Name.
There's a very good reason why the 2 biggest metal labels nowadays are Nuclear Blast and Napalm Records, they come from an era where nuclear paranoia was very real, and political commentary was at the top of it's popularity in songs.
Despite the image Twisted Sister ain't hair metal. Their lyrics are about evil, rebellion and revolution. Even Bon Jovi never sang about parties and chicks. But maybe you could consider them hair metal because of the cheesy love songs yes.
@@staalhard666 yes , Twisted I agree I been fan since 83 and idk why I threw that name as Hair band , but yes indeed Bon Jovi I considered hair because of cheesy love songs
Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple are mostly considerd the founding fathers (so to speak) for metal and rock or at least as most influencing with what came after that.
Jordan, I'm also more instrumental. There are many songs that I was listening for years but I didn't know more than couple lines of lyrics and did not even try to find out because instrumental part is so great. The riff is great. For example, I belive that 90% of people who like "Smoke on the water" do not know what is song about, do not know all the lyrics. But 101% of people know the riff. :) That gives oppotunity to listen songs in any language because if you like instrumental you do not care about lyrics, don't care what they are singing about.
Omg,I so want to lecture you both on both Iron Maiden and metal in general. But I'm not gonna just yet. But you just got yourself a sub just because I'm a metal geek and I want to see where this goes ;) Now I'm gonna watch The Dirt that dropped on Netflix today, cheers from Norway

For someone who doesn’t like metal an 8 is a high score and that’s respectable. This was a fantastic video I really enjoyed it. Thank you. P.S. Iron Maiden’s newest album which was released in 2015 still features the same singer in this song.
Iron maiden along with Judas Priest were at the forefront of a movement called the new wave of British heavy metal. This was just a single off of the pom album. I would have done run to the hills first.
Umm, no... YOU said, "let me give you a little bit of history of Iron Maiden, they started in 1981" @ 2:33 Where was the almighty Google when you made that error? You may wanna proof your videos before posting. ;-) As for 1975 vs 1976, I was close. Call me a liar by one lousy year (I am probably thinking of one of their demo tapes circulating in 1976). Since they hadn't actually been signed to any labels or released anything yet, it's a much more acceptable error to err on the year they formed. It's still closer than 1981, which is a year later than their debut album, when the sophomore effort (Killers) came out. I did not dispute anything to do with the Powerslave album. I know very well it came out in 1984. Best year ever, punctuated by one of the best albums ever from one of the best bands ever. :-)
Seriously, you could walk into a metal bar and state that you dislike every band whose t-shirts are being worn there, but say you like maiden and still be accepted. You've met the gold standard there, so you are now cool forever. Melody wise: eluveitie and their song rebirth (heavy metal flutes. And violas. And a hurdy gurdy. Theres like 9 of them. Wild melodies) Also, rotting christ, the raven. There's another more recent 'single' but most of the lyrics are in arabic so not the best introduction to the band. But groove, melody, and there's something really sexy-warm to their sound. Usually something profanely religious to their sound too, but not so much on the raven.
Don't pay attention to the negative comments, you two. Some people here don't get the concept that you're trying to pull a total newbie out of her comfort zone. Count your blessings that she's openminded enough to participate in this. Yes, we have to sit through her cringy remarks, but that's what makes this charming and it's part of the learning process. Heavy metal is an acquired taste and asks for a trained ear. Nobody started out with ultimate level stuff like Cirith Ungol or Manilla Road.

I think she would get a kick out of that ..
want metal with a great singer?
Dio - Rainbow In The Dark, Holy Diver and Last In Line,
Also any Queensryche song from the operation Mindcrime album
It's no hair Metal, and it's no Trash Metal. It is Heavy Metal at its best.
This song is included in the best heavy metal album of all times.......
they are still on tour and sound awesome as ever, seeing them this coming august again
I only subscribed because this guy is a saint working towards a worthwhile (but probably impossible) goal.
William Bors hahaha!
For newer stuff
Paschendale
Same singer
He got back
And crushing it in 2000s
Best song from reunion era Maiden IMO!
I have come to think that Paschendale is their most epic song
Unleash The Archers - Awakening
They are power metal with amazing musicianship and Brittney Slayes is amazing.
Aaron Nicholson that band stinks.
lucifer lavey Nope.
Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Early Scorpions, Pink Floyd, and Black Sabbath paved the way for harder stuff later.
Uriah Heep
Great choice for a Maiden song. Everybody usually goes for "The Number of the Beast" so it's refreshing to choose something different. Not a huge Maiden fan anymore but I still go back to the classics, particularly the "Powerslave" record and I always find great joy in the listening experience.
Iron Maiden are considered New Wave Of British Heavy Metal... A lot of thrash bands are influenced by them though... Do Metallica Halo On Fire, I bet she'll love it!!
try Galneryus -" time has come" or Symphony X -" kiss of fire" for an eye opening experience
you guys should react to Tarja Turunen the original mezo- soprano vocalist for nightwish. her vocal skills will mesmerize you.....caution :SHE IS VERY ADDICTIVE!
We did nightwish :)
Greetings from Thailand. Good luck with that. 😎
awesome!!
Bruce has been back as singer since 1999, 20 years....and the albums they've made in the last 20 years have included 3 guitarists.
Great song great reaction you guys rock 😎🌟🤘
Hair metal= Poison, La guns, Faster Pussycat, Cinderella, Warrant...…...
I wouldn't pigeonholed Cinderella as hair metal Maybe by name only but musically they have a lot of Blues undertones
Motley Crue
Iron Maiden political? History in a Metal form
Empire of the Clouds from Iron Maiden unique song written mainly by Mr Dickinson the singer
Play Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Skid Row I Remember You, Wasted Time
Dokken Dream Warriors, Unchain the Night
Whitesnake Slow an Easy, Still of the Night
Helloween Halloween
Queensryche I Don't Believe in Love
Scorpions Lovedrive, No One Like You, Rhythm of Love
Firehouse All She Wrote, Overnight Sensation
Dethmuerte Can start with the edit around 5 min lol
Your girlfriend is absolutely stunning. Iron Maiden is not a thrash metal band, there a genuine heavy metal band. You need to listen to Hallowed be thy Name.
Hallowed Be Thy Name or Fear of the Dark
dont worry toomuch about the comments , just do your thing.
There's a very good reason why the 2 biggest metal labels nowadays are Nuclear Blast and Napalm Records, they come from an era where nuclear paranoia was very real, and political commentary was at the top of it's popularity in songs.
It's not hair metal , hair metal is Poison , Bon Jovi , Enuff Znuff , Twisted Sister ect
Iron Maiden have NEVER been a thrash metal band. And neither have Queen.
That gives oppotunity to listen songs in any language because if you like instrumental you do not care about lyrics, don't care what they are singing about.
exactly, and you can just listen to instrumentals too
Omg,I so want to lecture you both on both Iron Maiden and metal in general. But I'm not gonna just yet. But you just got yourself a sub just because I'm a metal geek and I want to see where this goes ;) Now I'm gonna watch The Dirt that dropped on Netflix today, cheers from Norway
Check out Drew's music theory on our reactions. Our website is messed up so things may be out of place, but the content should be there.
I checked it out. Been a musician for almost 30 years so....,sorry. I'm talking about how you've got it all messed up in this video about IM lol ;)
Jinjer - Pices (Live Session)
Unleash The Archers - Awakening (Live Band Playthrough)
Infected Rain - Mold
plus 1 on "JINJER - Pisces (Live Session). Napalm Records"
JINJER is a great one for metal heads unfamiliar with the band and female reactors alike. The live video is a must see.
Aephanemer would be better. Jinjers frontwoman is like Arch Enemys frontwoman, just looking hot af to be recognized, lol.
In the approach of Nicko the drummer Iron Maiden are an hard rock band heavely influenced by progressive of the 60's-70's
Hey next round, you guys should check out Iron Maiden Killers. It's with the original singer. Can't for the life of me remember his name cause I'm an asshole. But I think you two would enjoy it
Nice reaction. I had fun watching you trying to figure it all out 😀
Definitely start with Blood Brothers - Iron Maiden. That will be a great next step!
Hi glad u are trying to show music...but i wish u had a better undetstanding of the subject band. Its kind like asking your dad to help with your math homework andhe has to figure it out to. Anyways. If you are gonna intruduce them to the bandin the order of the albums came out. Just a suggestion. And IRON MAIDEN IS Not thrash metal. Its epic history music
Thanks
Mick
WELL ITS ALWAYS A GOOD START WHEN YOU LISTEN TO THE FATHERS OF METAL
😂 I’ve been a metal head for about 35 years and I also do not have leather anything.
It's always been a pet peeve of mine since i was a kid. The music is more important than the look.
You guys are accomplishing what I may never be able to. I have tried to get my gf to at least listen to metal and give it a chance. She couldnt get past 30 seconds of Megadeth-Holy Wars. ( I actually used your reaction video to show her the song... I thought maybe she could maybe identify with Pamela....but nope lol) I made the mistake of taking her to a Rage concert last year ( with really shitty sound at a shitty venue) and since then she hates the sound of metal music.I managed to agree to go see Frog Leap with me as well as Nightwish. Maybe having the live experience with good sound and show will make the difference. BTW....if you are not familiar with Frog Leap, it might help your cause :) I wont tell you what its all about....You can see for yourself ;)
Oh no! Well show her this one :). Pamela didn't like megadeth.
@@metalconvert2324 however she does love Ghost. Totally fell in love with the song Ghost Hammer by them. If that one worked for me....might work for you!
Omg maiden has many great songs going back to the early 80's if you start anywhere start from the beginning. They are heavy metal, thrash is metallica. Iron Maiden and Judas Priest are the godfathers of heavy metal.
Wrong!! I got one word, LEMMY!!! Technically Black Sabbath are the OG godfather's, but LEMMY took it to a whole new level!!
Volbeat, Battle Beast, 5 FDP, Amaranthe, my Wife isn`t a Metalhead but thats the Metal Bands she Like .
I would recommend Fear of the Dark (either Live in Rio or from Flight 666), Hallowed Be Thy Name (either Live at Hammersmith or the studio version), and Paschendale (studio version).
Gwar any song works...just don't let her see any videos right away haha
Hahahaha i think she'd actually get a kick out of the videos bc they'reso absurd. 🤣🤣🤣
You should play her the song Gor Gor the video is pretty good haha
2 minutes to midnight equates to the doomsday clock we lived with in the 80s. Almost the end due to nuclear war
I was gonna bitch and rant about the hair metal cheesy stuff you said about the band but thats not a Maidens fan type of response,or a metalheads response.we respect everyone and their opinions ..So i welcome you to the maiden family, hope you like it...UP THE IRONS FROM GREECE!!
Avantasia - Avantasia. So epic! Please do it!
Oh H. Yes! I'm teaching myself this on guitar now. Relatively straight forward, but pure molten heat! So many great comments,...as you go, you'll find out that those of us brought up on Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and other early metal bands, often don't like a lot of glam or hair metal. LMAO...Maiden is hard core...no glam/hair just hell raising bad asses!
For someone who doesn’t like metal an 8 is a high score and that’s respectable. This was a fantastic video I really enjoyed it. Thank you.
P.S. Iron Maiden’s newest album which was released in 2015 still features the same singer in this song.
Iron Maiden's newest album still features the same whole BAND (plus Janick Gers 3rd guitar).
LONELINESS OF THE LONG DISTANCE RUNNER!!!
Iron Maiden belong to the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) btw being Pioneers in Metal
Two minutes to midnight might not have been the first song I would let my woman here. Mine was wasted years and she loved it
Opposite of hair metal💪 UP THE IRONS
You don’t need any others- just Maiden. UP THE IRONS!!
Hair Metal in one word... POISON! Listen to anything they ever did and that is Hair Metal!
Unleash the archers-awakening, pantera, I’m broken or walk, Black Sabbath - heaven and hell
Iron maiden along with Judas Priest were at the forefront of a movement called the new wave of British heavy metal. This was just a single off of the pom album. I would have done run to the hills first.
You should react to "Hallowed be thy name", or "Seventh son of a Seventh son", or "Rime of the ancient mariner" or... you're welcome from Italy!
100% agree
Iron Maiden actually started as early as 1976, and their first album was released in 1980.
Hand in your Metalhead Card, son. :-P
Google disagrees. I said formed 1975 and album in 1984
Umm, no... YOU said, "let me give you a little bit of history of Iron Maiden, they started in 1981" @ 2:33
Where was the almighty Google when you made that error?
You may wanna proof your videos before posting. ;-)
As for 1975 vs 1976, I was close.
They start in 1975 and is a heavy metal band, not trash metal band
Seriously, you could walk into a metal bar and state that you dislike every band whose t-shirts are being worn there, but say you like maiden and still be accepted. You've met the gold standard there, so you are now cool forever.
Melody wise: eluveitie and their song rebirth (heavy metal flutes. And violas. And a hurdy gurdy. Theres like 9 of them. Wild melodies)
Also, rotting christ, the raven. There's another more recent 'single' but most of the lyrics are in arabic so not the best introduction to the band. But groove, melody, and there's something really sexy-warm to their sound. Usually something profanely religious to their sound too, but not so much on the raven.
matthew godding thank you!🙏🏼
Just been voted best metal band of all time!!!! #UPTHEIRONS
Hey beautiful couple. I'm so pleased "Girlfriend " is sort of a Nightwish fan. I'm 57 and my two Favourite bands live are without doubt Iron Maiden and Nightwish. Please just do as much as you can of either band. I really believe you will enjoy it. (Especially "Girlfriend "). 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Gonna have to play her some Queensryche. If she wants an opera singer.
First thrash song?
Probably "Symptom of the Universe" -- Black Sabbath ..
Check it out and see what you think ..
Please react to unleash the archers awakening she will love this band it's a female singer and
Iron maiden is not thrash metal it influence thrash but not creat it Metallica and Slayer deserve the credit for thrash iron maiden is classic Heavy Metal
I think she is ready to next level.
Band: JINJER
Song: PISCES ( Live Session )
