My farm had a fw30 from 1988 till 2008. Was the only Steiger we had pre case-Steiger merge. It was used to pull 40ft of Morris deep tillage cultivator for nh3, 40ft of Bourgault cultivator, 40ft of bourgault air seeder, 22.5ft of ford tandem disc (made by sunflower), occasionally pulled 60ft of flexi coil harrow packer and 60ft of flexi coil harrow, 36ft of double disc press drill, and a 9 yard scraper. The fw30 we had was heavily loved and was turned up to 295hp (I believe was fw40 spec). It only had 20.8-34 duals all around full of fluid, it desperately needed 20.8-38 rubber to get the draw bar up, more road speed, and more traction and flotation. Today I run a 9150 and 2870.
I had FW 30 here in the UK Ford sold the 30 and 60 here the 30 was actually a FW 40 as you say at 295 hp why Ford badged these as a 30 and not a FW 40 I don't know great tractors though and great memories
This is one of the Best Steiger videos i have seen. I love to see the Green Steigers. Wish they would go back to Green. There is a Local Farmer in the area that had one like that a few yrs ago.
Ran a 2213 with spring trip with are FW40 . Plugging was a problem until we installed new cutting discs. Great machine, I believe the Frame was filled with sand from factory for weight.
That's an awesome looking team right there! In fact, all of them were.👍👍 I'd love to see a combo like that in person some time in a field here somewhere. I enjoyed listening to the young man driving the tractor.
This farm has three Steiger’s in the field. A Panther ST-310 had Sunflower mulch ripper. You could really see the difference in how a modern ripper handles residue. This was a great opportunity to share Steiger history.
AWESOME classic outfits! What a great find BTP. Brings me back to the 80s as boy seeing these new at farm shows and fairs. I still remember sitting in those big green duals at Ontario County Fair...maybe Finger Lakes Tractor brought it (if my memory is correct on name of dealer)?? Nice young, hard-working guy operating it too.
You knew you were really farming in the 1980s if you had a green Steiger sitting in the farm yard. The digger-disk brochure shown in this video in the specifications section is from Finger Lakes tractor. 😁👍
HA! That’s so awesome. Glad I mentioned their name. I’ve been told the owner of FLT was very angry back in the day when Steiger was taken away from him bc of buy-out by case ih and everything went by way of Monroe Tractor corp.
Love the sound love this tractor old horsepower from steiger in Alsace in France i use a steiger 5500 v12 detroit diesel and 270 and 280 and a steiger tillage disc and chisel plow
@@NorthEastSaskFarmerit’s definitely farming simulator because I remember seeing a video of that mod pop into my feed. There actually is 2 2200s with 12V71 repowers, and tiger cabs and axles.
I ran this same model tractor in Montana wheat fields back in the early 80’s. Caterpillar motor is stock, but apparently they replaced with a Detroit? Never saw any Steiger tillage tools. I totally understand wanting to run the machine all the time. Those green Steiger Series III were a dream. Wish I had one.
I also live in Montana and we owned a st250 and st270 over the years. They both had the 3306 Cat. Detroit wasn't an option. Also the badging on the side of the hood is not factory. Very heavy and good pulling tractors. The biggest con was that the AC systems were barely adequate in the 3 series.
The ST-270 came from the factory with a Caterpillar 3306 engine. This Cougar was re-powered 2 years after it was new to a Detriot. It was purchased new by a custom NH3 applicator who wanted more power. The dealer re-powered the Cougar and upgraded the axles and transmission to make it a high horse power application machine. The Series III Steigers are nice and dominated market in the early 80’s. What implements did you run in Montana.
I had a 13 shank stiger chisel plow back in the early 90’s. Did a decent job, but the shafts for the front disc gangs always broke. Eventually rather than always replacing/repairing the shafts I just took them off and it worked just fine with out them. Didn’t think I’d see another one around. Great find!
8 days ago I assembled two Agri Fab 39” discs in tandem. With no sleeve hitch on my Toro 522xi garden tractor I rigged up a hitch using a Reese tow bar. Yesterday just as I have it out for its first test run a 325hp Case IH 4wd tractor comes up the driveway pulling a disc to disc the 3 acre field next to the barn I store my garden tractors in. What a contrast. Hopefully I can still disc the garden and bumpy lawn after the rain and before the ground freezes. I’m east of Saint Paul Minnesota.
@@bigtractorpower No, I rent storage in some pole barns on a former farm. To some area farmer they rent out a 3 acre field next to the barns along with a 12 acre field 1000 feet south. My family had a large dairy farm for its time sold in 1981. It was 4.5 miles north of Grand Meadow Mn. My dad was on the Minnesota Dairy Promotion board through the 1970’s.
The ST270 came from the factory with a 3306. Good tractor. This one was purchased new by a custom anhydrous ammonia applicator and two years after they bought it they had the engine replaced with a Detroit and the axles upgraded so it could run 500 hp and cover more ground at a faster pace.
BTP; Jason, thanks for another excellent video. Man that is going to be a lot of passes back and forth with the chisel/disk not much wider than the Cougar to get that field done.
We recently acquired a 33’ Steiger trail-r-disc. I noticed you featured them shortly in this video, would you be able to do a full feature on them sometime?
It was a great day with a Panther ST325, Cougar ST-270 and Cougar 1000. This video was focusing on the digger-disk. I will have another video that focuses on all three tractors running side-by-side.
This was a great opportunity to feature Steiger History. I would like to feature Hesston tillage equipment in the future. Sperry New Holland offered a line of disks that would be great for a video too.
@bigtractorpower thank you for your reply. Couldn't quite make out the exact tractor model, since the focus was mainly on the disc. Looks like a well engineered piece of kit.
I understand the whole repower thing but dang, as good as they pull and work those detroits are just too loud for any tractor I'd be on all day, my cousin has a Oliver 1955 with the detroit, and it mostly sits cause nobody cares for how loud it is, so it's relegated to running the manure pit pump twice a year
This was a great opportunity to share that history. Someday I hope to get to feature Sperry New Hollands disk and Hesston’s tillage line which are lesser known.
This was filmed after a morning rain and the wind came out and allowed them to run. This was 7 hours from my home. Had the sun not come out this video would not exist. It had not rained for a month so the ground absorbed the moisture well. This was the Farms last field for the year and had they not gone out to work the ground. It would still be sitting there. This was filmed two weeks ago and it has rained a bunch since then. It all worked out in my view.
Having another fun day with our STEIGER tractors !

Awesome video! Great view from the cab and no auto-steer, which takes the fun out of running a tractor!

I didnt know Steiger made implements. I have always liked the tractors.
It is an interesting part of their history. The trail-r-disk ended up being made by Case IH for two years.
There is only one way to describe Steiger tractors------PERFECT!
I could watch tillage all day. 👍🏻👍🏻😊
Me too 😁👍
I like it when tractor manufacturers also make their implements. That means they optimized every detail for tractor and implement to work efficiently.
Both Steiger and Versatile were 4wd manufacturers that offered tillage lines. They made a great pairing.
What a well kept tillage team😁👍 steiger equipment is always nice to see at work👍👍

Very cool that you had a 2213. I would imagine it would be a strong straight up chisel plow. That is too bad the gangs did not function well.
As my late grandpa use to say: That's what you call big farmin' boy.
If you had a green Steiger in the late 1970s or early 1980s, it definitely a sign of big-time farming.
