      The days when they knew how to write comedy. Today most "comedy" is stupid sex related jokes/situations and they are old and worn out because they have been used so many times. The only "recent" sitcoms that didn't have to take that route were The Middle and Last Man Standing. They were so realistic.

    • @liz326522
      @liz326522 7 років тому +2

      RobMacKendrick Without sounding incredibly clueless, what exactly is blocking and what made it so perfect in this scene? Just curious.

    • @RobMacKendrick
      @RobMacKendrick 7 років тому +19

      Blocking is the way the shots are lined up (sequence and angle). If you watch the sequence from first to last, noting each frame change and the way the actors stand and move through the scene (note that the arrogant snob remains still while everyone else moves in relation to him), it tells the story as eloquently as the script. You could just lay out a series of stills without dialogue and people would laugh just as hard. The MTM crew were famous for minding all the details, and this scene demonstrates why they're still remembered as among the best.

    • @liz326522
      @liz326522 7 років тому +14

      RobMacKendrick Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that to me, I find that so interesting, especially when you think of how much had to go into even a simple scene, to make it the best it can be. That cast and crew really were the cream of the crop, weren't they? Lightning in a bottle they were.

      Not at all; I picked this stuff up "in the street" so to speak, just as an interested fan, and it really does heighten my appreciation of the movies and TV shows I love, to have a sketchy understanding of Cinematography 101. And I'm totally with you on the MTM team. They were so sharp on so many levels. I guess that's why we're still talking about them. (And watching them!)

    • @Tmanaz480

    The moment Betty White enters, you can see Gavin put his fist up to his mouth trying to contain his laughter. They’ve rehearsed this multiple times and know what’s coming. This is also one of those moments where, if it had gone wrong, they’d have to take a considerable amount of time to reset everything and do it again. It may not seem apparent, but, there’s a lot riding on that moment and it illustrates how good they all were.

    have to agree with that, Eric Braeden did a good job too, he played that snobby person well.

      And it is a great lesson in how to hold those who serve us---responsible. [Get it how you ordered and paid for it.] A similar lesson is taught by Nicholson to Quaid in -The Last Detail- over a cheeseburger where the cheese is not melted.
      Hard to possess that trait, but an admirable trait it is.

    I miss Ed Asner. He recently passed. He looked so much like my Dad, my Dad would get yelled at from cars, "Hey Ed Asner!"

      Awe! My Dad looked just like Archie Bunker and ppl would come up to him in the grocery store and tell him so.He hated that! I couldn't watch the show for several years after my Dad passed because I would cry each time I watched All in the Family.Now several years later it is a comfort to see Carol O'Connor on All in the Family.

    Loved him as narrator of “The Super Friends” as a kid and considered him a truly heroic character. Am sorry to hear he got hurtful press by being ID’d by public as bad guy. He deserved nice fan letters.

    HA!,HA! That was a totally priceless, scene, by Ted. That show was so great, well written great talented actors. Glad there on UTUBE, they are great to rewatch. There was another one with Mary, Phyllis, and Rhoda and the old fashioned home hair dryer. It was a scream, I laughed so hard. Wish they would have it on UTUBE. That Show is priceless. 😻❤
