Great inspiration, I have a Grundig Yacht Boy 210 which I have yet to restore, you have sparked my interest, I'm just going into the loft now to retrieve it!
Oh God... Grundig Satellit is one of my long unfulfilled dreams. I need one right NOW :) I'm waiting with unearthly impatience for the next episodes. I hope that there will be many and will be long. Also I am waiting for a detailed presentation of the construction and diagrams ;) Thank You.
I shall be following this restoration very closely, and find the formula to change the frog to the princess as I know you will.Thank you for all the Videos as entertaining and knowledgeable as they are I appreciate them thank you
Ive got one of these in working condition although its got a aftermarket aerial after i broke the original one as a baby, oops lol. The story of how we got our one, this was back in the early/mid 70's a Turkish immigrant man from Germany had arrived to Australia and began working with my dad (he was a Turkish man who lived and worked in Germany before migrating to Australia), my parents went over to his home for a visit one day and he showed off this radio to my dad, he also showed off that the radio was powerful enough to pick up faint radio signals from Turkey which was what made my dad interested in purchasing the radio off the immigrant man, eventually they made a deal and my dad purchased it and if i recall correctly the price my dad bought it for he could have bought a brand new small car for that price (my dad unfortunately was a kind of person who'd pay ridiculous amounts of money for unique or quirky items) and so thats how my parents ended up with our Grundig Sattelit 2100
This renovation is going to be awesome! I recently bought and freshened up a '67 Panasonic portable AM/FM after watching Shango066's channel. He restores and resurrects old tube and solid state TVs and mostly solid state radios. Can't wait for your next video!
Hi Manuel. I seem to have missed this particular series for some reason so just catching up now. I repaired one of these about 2 years ago and it sounded great when I had finished. It had all sorts of issues so I will be interested to see what you find. Thanks for the mention btw and you have my full permission to delve into as many transistor radios as you like. Maybe a Nordmende next time. Cheers Graham
As for the mention, I feel that there is a group in here that’s almost like a sort of team, and I like to do the mention thing. No one has minded so far, because all my mentions are nice 😃
Looks like it spent some time in a greasy spoon kitchen or maybe a gas station workshop. You can almost see the personalities of the people it sang songs to in its long life. Really like the fact that the whole HF band is continuously tunable and that there are numerous jacks for external antennas. Will be nice to see it shiny and new again.
Brings back memories of my grandads Grundig Yacht Boy. As a kid I used to play with that radio for hours and leave it on some FM pop music station, much to his annoyance 😂😂
Hello. That looks like an interesting project. Almost anything with a Grundig badge on it is worth restoring in my opinion. Look forward to seeing the next episode. Chris.
That really looks like a workshop radio.... Looking forward to seeing what you can do with this one. It would be great to see it back to at least partially its former glory.
The top switch on the front next to the LW-SW2 dial is an IF bandwidth switch (wide and narrow). The round antenna connector at the bottom of the back side is an old-style car radio antenna connector (I think it's marked with AUTO and CAR). SW3-10 each have 2 bands you can tune: either the full band (for example 5-6.5) or just the broadcast band (49m from 5.8 to 6.3) It would be nice if you could rebuild the optional SSB unit (if you can't get an original). The Grundig SAT2000 series has an optional SSB unit, in the SAT3000 series (even bigger) it is built in and there is even a digital frequency counter and digital clock in these
Thanks for that clarification. I actually have the schematic for the bfo this thing used, but I’m not sure the inductors can be found, unfortunately. I’ll probably build a simple one and try it out though.
Enjoyed the video much! I always find your videos interesting and informative. My only "complaint" is that I was hoping for a longer video. Eager to see the insides of this one and the magic that you perform on it.
you probably dont give a shit but does anybody know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost my account password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me
Wow! I'm looking forward to how this will turn out. I also have a Grundig Satellit 2100 but probably a later unit as the grille looks more modern, otherwise everything is the same. I got it as a present when I was around 10 and it's in a pristine condition exterior-wise... I'm not that sure about the internals though. It would probably need some kind of restoration, recapping, God knows what. The thinner portion of the antenna is gone on mine however, I'd probably need to replace the whole antenna. I've got a big clunky internal battery in there that is recharged when the unit is plugged in. Maybe that was the drainage you experienced when the unit was off. Also, I have some kind of an external box that you connect to the SSB connector on the back and you can slide it on a metal thing that you extend from the bottom of the unit. Some kind of tuning aid, decoding thing... never new how to use it really.... I'll be watching the rest of your series with great excitement :D Cheers.
@@electronicsoldandnew It was a very nice one indeed!! I don't think I would ever be capable to dive into mine this deep, but I'll see for the recapping and such. Also, I'm missing 2 of the left-side adjustment knobs. Mine are all black rubbery with a chrome ring on the top edge. Any idea where I could get something similar? I've checked, the shaft diameter looks to be 4mm and wherever I look, I see 6mm diameter knobs... the few for 4mm shafts are not d-shafts and they're pretty ugly :))) Congrats for the restoration, that was hell of a work!!!
The Grundig Satellite was a legend. Wish i had one. The back connector is a auto car antenna. In the 70s there were connectors to cars. Therefor the DC-Input is useful. Good luck with this dirtswinger. For this thing you need a mask and some latex gloves.:-)

Quite a daunting project but I’m sure it will all gleam in the end, and the stations will roll in. Good luck. I look forward to your next video. I have a Grundig Yacht boy 210. If I use it every day it is all fine. If I leave for a week or so then only FM works. However if I lightly touch (not prod or poke) anywhere on the circuit board with an insulated screwdriver it comes to life! Cannot for the life of me find the fault! Want to swap radios? LOL Lynton
I have a Grundig Satellit Transistor 6100 with a vinyl case and an SSB device, all in working condition. These radios are a nightmare when it comes to repair them. Not so much electronically, but mainly mechanically. You can hardly find a technician who dares to open them. Their weak point are the SW selector drums. As I only listen to FM stations I am quite satisfied with the performance of the speaker. You can buy this type of radio on the net for anything between 120€ and 200€ depending on the condition.

Must come from a kitchen at McDonalds when so discusting. Switches are for bandwith and spread/normal chooses the upper lower dial on the drum... one scale is a magnified piece of the band, very nice made. Had a 2000 once. Very similar. BFO was an add-on wich was a box you screwed onto the bottom of the radio and connected with a cable to the jack on the back... not a very elegant soultion in my opinion. Worked very well else.
