good video with a beautiful plane the 787 !:) sometimes i can see with flightradar 24 a787 's Virgin Atlantic passing above Le Havre( from Heathrow to Johannesburg) usually the evennig :)
Anyone realize how slow 80kts seems when pilots are taking off in large aircraft like the 787? In the Cessna 152 I feel like I'm zipping down the runway at 50 kts
All depending on atmospheric conditions, loaded weight and length of runway. It can go low as 50% or dad lower. All to preserve airline operating costs, efficiency, maintenance and longevity.
De-rated engine thrust results in a longer roll, no need to max out the power if you have the runway length. Saves wear and tear on engines reducing maintenance costs and intervals and reduces fuel burn and noise.
Its not like it matters the plane basically controls itself. Pilots are just a redundant backup system nowadays. They don't even guide the plane in to land anymore, they just control the throttles and pull it back when the wheels touch.
@@STDrepository Oh no no, they DO have automatic landing systems which can be used on a runway only if it's fitted with an ILS and only during reasonably light wind conditions. We'll use that in the case of fog when we can't see where we are flying. More than 99% of the time the landing is manually flown, and if the wind is up it HAS to be manually flown as the autoland isn't certified/capable for use in high wind conditions. Believe it or not the autoland feels kind of temperamental and monitoring it is a bit of a pain. Forgive me if I'm wrong but your point was that the plane guides itself and the pilots are redundant waiting simply to take over in the case of a failure. That's definitely not the case. Even if the landing is automatic that doesn't mean the pilots don't use the autopilot modes to fly the plane onto the approach, which is a skill that needs to be highly developed in and of itself (think of it like programming the aircraft to fly what you'd like it to rather than being tactiley connected to the controls). And if there's no ILS available, you can forget an automatic landing as there would be nothing on the runway to which the plane can reference its position. The plane would not take you from a to b without constant pilot input, be it via a yoke, a sidestick, or by twidling dials on the dashboard which tell the automation exactly what you want from it.
@@STDrepositoryonly the lazy fsx/p3d/xplane arm chair pilots uses cat 3 autoland everytimes with a clear day because they dont know how to fly and they dont want to know, otherwise you dont have to compare these people with real pilots this is not the same ,computer is computer, real life is real life
That cockpit looks awesome. But the bang-bang-bang of the nose-gear on the runway's central lights are really annoying to watch. I can imagine as a pilot they must be really annoying too. Or perhaps they've got more important things on your mind during take-off, and so don't really notice them. So this is a question to pilots, proper pilots, that is, and not to the many Walter Mittys out there!!! Do any of you deliberately avoid the lights and steer slightly off-centre for a smoother ride? Or is that a major no-no? I know I would!
sounds like they have a few flat tires. Id abort the flight for that sound would make me scream !!!! Somebody stop this plane were all going to crash!!!!
BollocksUtwat you gave to keep in mind that London has one of the busiest airspaces. They probably had to talk to ATC, monitor other aircraft etc. Not much room to handfly
Nonsense. There is nothing special about departing or arriving into any London airport. There is no special terrain, very rarely any significant weather and the controllers are extremely efficient. Hand flying should never be an issue for a pilot. Any pilot worth the paper his licence is printed on should be able to hand fly raw-data without breaking a sweat into any airport.
Douglas Nisbet, Of course Pilots can handfly, but the point of our job is to take the aircraft as safely as possible from A to B, so on certain departures in certain conditions it’s best to keep your situational awareness as high as possible, which means using the automation to take a load off. We call it capacity, hand flying uses capacity which leaves less capacity for everything else. The London TMA is the busiest airspace in the world and they’re very strict about adhering to exact prescribed the flight path. Even with the autopilot engaged the pilot flying is still busy programming the aircraft, and the pilot monitoring is very busy on the radio and doing their after take off scans. All in all it’s not a place you want to be trying to prove that you’re a god pilot.
You never feel that you're going fast enough, then the plane just tips, and up you go. Love this.
I always get pushed back into my seat during take off 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
after stabilization, amazing how quickly those two engines get up to takeoff thrust. virtually no delay with the pilot's increase in power
marvelous engineering.
There Is a lot of delay
What a gorgeous glass cockpit!!!
Lovely isnt it...
Such a beautiful cockpit, boeing has come such a long way. Just 4 enormous windows
Congratulations, didn't miss any single centerline lights.. nice plane tought
Why do they deliberately drive over the lights, why not a bit to the side? Its noisy, bumpy and can't do the front tyres any favours.

Are these new larger turbofan engines using the 80% to 90% range for takeoff thrust, or lower ??

i doubt 50% is ever used for t/o
just keep it slightly to the left or right of the centre line guys to avoid going over the centre lights and the thumping sound!
ALMOST THOUGHT I WAS ON THE SANTA ANA CALIFORNIA FREEWAY WITH THAT DARN "WASHBOARD" SOUND ON THE RUNWAY!!!:o)
What's the noises
The centre line 🤦♂️
Ben, thanks great video! May I ask what the 'lenses' are in front of the windscreen they are looking thru, sort of rose' colored?
TommyT those are HUDs, or Heads Up Displays, which have useful info on them so that the pilots can look forward when flying the plane
But how does he get the acess to the cockpit in flight time
MA Hussain He's a trolley dolly
That was one long take-off roll
De-rated engine thrust results in a longer roll, no need to max out the power if you have the runway length. Saves wear and tear on engines reducing maintenance costs and intervals and reduces fuel burn and noise.
No doubt about that, just mentioning.
Looks like they use both fixed de-rate and assumed temp.
The 787 defaults on improved climb so it really uses the whole runway if it can :)
Yeah I have noticed a few times now that it really uses a lot of runway
And also pisses off the passengers on the aircraft lined up behind you waiting for you to get da fuq outa da way.
One heavy take off there...
What's that unsettling clunking noise I heard?
Stuff on the runway like lights
Its 787-9 not -900. They got rid of that on the 787.
why it vibrates at time of running on runway ??
hi five there are little light on the runway
I find it awesome and then your moaning....why lol
