- Part 2 • The Worlds Lightest On...
I've not modified a frame for a few years and this was a perfect opportunity to get my biggest tools out again! Operation "lightweight T-Rex" has officially started!
Cheers!

Thanks for carefully recording the weights. I wonder if you could remove the redundant tube walls visible through your head tube cutout. The welded top and downtubes effectively make them one large unified tube. The "seat tube" welded to the top of the BB could probably go as well.
No problem :) I did wonder about removing the excess but there's only so far my Dremel can reach :(
I just swapped maxxis hookworms to ikons and got my Planet X street trials bike under 30lbs😮. So Im far from an expert on light bikes.
That can of WD40 in the background makes excellent cutting fluid for aluminium if you're struggling to get through the bigger sections. Keep the cutting surface and the drill covered in it and you'll have a much easier time.
Loving the dentist jokes! Got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out today and definitely feel some compassion for that poor frame 😂😂😂 wonderful video as always Ali!
ouch! I hope you're not too sore today!
Only a little sore but the pain meds are going a good job!
Lard works well as a cutting fluid for aluminium, should make drilling easier and the holes come out neater. 👍
lol well I have neither, perhaps Santa can bring me some :)
I wrapped my bmx frame in the exact same wrap in 2015 and I also loved how it looked
That frame colour makes me think of pearls, so on that note you could go out for a "Pearl Jam"!
Pearl Jex
Thank goodness its another frame! 😎🤙 Looks light enough.
That looks awesome ! Keep up the cool builds !
Thank you, got quite a few lined up! :)
That was wrap is really awesome! I can no longer ride trials, but my new bike obsession is my brompton folding bike, which I take everywhere around the world to just enjoy a leisurely bikeride. Might take some inspiration from your wrap at some point!
Thank you! Shame you can’t ride trials but you’ve chosen a sweet bike if you like tinkering! I’m so jealous of all the upgrades and accessories available for bromptons!
Thanks @Ali_Clarkson ! Yeah there's a big modification scene for bromptons actually, it's pretty fun! Brompton also released a full titanium version that's under 8kg *drool*
Carbon's cool, but there's just something about titanium
@@KokoroKompass yeah titanium is super cool!
Oz's over safety... brave man!
Love the wrap!
But where I live London there are too many Magpies (thieves)and that is shiny! 👍👍
grams over sense!
look forward to find out if the cute thief found you some matching parts
me too!
That chainstay yoke will haunt my dreams tonight. The wrap looks insanely cool
Looks great!
Great work. Love the color
Thanks very much :)
The wrap looks a lot better than I expected, nice one Ali!
Very nice and accurate machine work! I like the Internal routing and agree, it would be cool to see this on more trials bikes! After all, the bikes get dropped a lot and it would offer a little extra protection for the hoses.
Ali, good work!!!
Thank you :)
BALLERS
gonna
Keep up the craziness ! 🙂
ok :)
Amazing Ali! Can't wait to see the full build! Can you make a video on how to wrap a bike frame? I have done cars but frames are certainly a complex object to wrap. Curious to see how you have done that. Looks amazing!
Thank you!
Even though this looks decent on camera, it’s actually more of a mess the closer you get, I’m not quite ready to do any detailed video on how to wrap a frame yet, maybe I’ll do a couple more, get my skills up a bit and then I might be more prepared to explain how to do it 👍🏻
@@Ali_Clarkson please do as this is really something I would like to be able to do to my bikes. You know how I raw all the bikes I have but being able to change their colour from time to time would truly be a bless!
As someone who struggled to wrap large flat car panels I can only imagine how hard that was to do!
Haha yeah I personally found it pretty hard but this was my first experience, I’m sure you’d do it much faster and better if you tried👍🏻
The holy disco rex
being one of the highest tension loads on the bike, im curious if you are concerned about the chainstay yoke drilling out probably 3/4 of its strength or if this is way over built and its not going to be a problem?
I have a 100% feeling that the chain stay yolk is mostly strong enough...mostly.
I concur with Ali 😂
The wrap looks amazing that would be awesome in the sunlight next weeks video is building a dungeon for these adult jokes Specially from 4:51 to 5:13 😂😂😂
I never said anything cheeky, I think you just heard what you wanted ;)
@@Ali_Clarkson that’s so funny 😂😂
I would clear coat the frame to stop it from scratching
Is Ali preparing for the Swiss trials championship?
An amazing project and an amazing video Ali! However I can't see those chainstay yokes lasting more than a couple of rides😅
I should have a comp where people guess how long it lasts and the closest wins the frame 😂
Bloody hell, mate! You are the hole master! =) But I think you fockup with color - should be yellow, like a maasdam cheese!
Any way - I can't wait to the final build!
Absolutely outrageous 🫡
haha thanks Alex!
Ali i felt sad when you sheer the onza logo on the toptube ): but bike looks cool :)
nah I'm glad...it annoyed me they put it "upside down"...I feel it should be seen from the right hand side of the bike, they put it so it's seen from the left, madness!
@@Ali_Clarkson if you love it it doesn’t matter man! I’m just extraordinarily love old school stuff, that’s why i upset a little :)
The wrap is for holding the frame together 😂
lol maybe!
I would have cut off the hedgehog thing and made a keychain with it!
I was trying to think how that would be possible...I think maybe if I had a jewellers saw you could neatly cut it out but there's no room on the other side of the plate for the saw to fit. I couldn't grind it out as there's no room...maybe a saw on a Dremel could work but the plates so thick it would take hours and hours to do and still maybe not be that neat.
Looks so disco, could still rideable, but no chance for 17st my torque twist frame or break frame 🤔
Don't worry about your weight lad let the frame worry about it
often the heaviest riders are the smoothest!
R.I.P little porcupine ⚰️
it's sacrifice won't be forgotten
Wondering at what point does drilling it become dangerous for riding.
Who needs cable mounts when you're gonna drill enough holes to internally route everything lol
At least 150g is from the paint I believe
Not sure whether you’ve created something really unique or an absolute death trap 🤔 I suppose we shall see😬
a unique death trap
Do you have extra trial bike that u didnt use? Can u pls give to me in philippines no one selling trial bike 😂
The lack of cutting oil disturbs me
You love drilling back doors don't you? 😂
I do!
2252g.... LOL.... Are you measuring this on Jupiter??!!!
lol, this thing creates it's own gravity
@@Ali_Clarkson HAHAHA!!! cause you created so many black holes lol....
The holes in the chainstays are worrying. And possibly the headtube. I'd expect fatigue fractures fairly quickly there. I wouldn't ride that thing too hard.
the head tube I'm honestly not worried about at all, there's still lots of meat left and more so than most modern comp bikes.
I maaaaaybe went too big a hole in the yolk but it's thicker than it looks on camera and with how thick and stiff the rest of the frame is, it's a pretty supported area
@@Ali_Clarkson i dont know man. Any vertical force on the dropouts will go straight through the remains of those chainstays.
Hopefully they were several times too strong :)
1st)
Did you have to use the "D" word 😲
Drill?
@@Ali_Clarkson Dentist 😬
Oh man , it’s painful to watch. Good luck 😂
Thumbnail clickbait… I clicked to watch you wrap it.
I mean I never said it was a tutorial, only that I wrapped it...which I did. I didn't film the wrapping process because quite simply I had no idea if it was going to work, I wanted to just concentrate on it and not have to worry about filming too. I was literally hunched over the frame on my workbench for 8+ hours and a camera would've been in the way
@@Ali_Clarkson no worries, perhaps next time
