I agree - it's always about price. How much to pay - he's now a veteran minimum player. I see no reason why the Vikings should avoid him if he's available for the veteran minimum.
Worst contract in NFL history belongs to Deshaun Watson (Nice call Cleveland)...Daniel Jones as a Backup is a great idea for the Vikes now and next year unless they go after Fields for next year
agreed on both fronts. i do think Fields would be a higher price tag than Jones, though, as he’s proven already to be competent for a couple games. Jones feels like a total project, so not as many teams will be willing to give him 5-10 million, which i think could be reasonable to expect for Fields, especially from a team like Las Vegas or a franchise looking for a bridge qb to buffer for rookie tbd qb
If Darnold returns in 2025, it would be Sam Darnold QB1 (3rd overall), JJ McCarthy QB2 (10th overall), and Daniel Jones QB3 (6th overall). That's a stud QB room all first rounders 😮😮😮
I guess the people saying yes to grab Jones, are expecting Darnold to leave the Vikings after this season. JJ is not ready to be a starter next year, so basically you’d create a QB 1 situation from the jump. I’d much rather pursue Justin Fields. He’d thrive with KOC as a mentor.
I could sign up for this as a back-up. I'd prefer Sam, but unless he / we implode over the final 6 games then I think Sam will realize a nice contract somewhere else.
I have to admit I'm growing attached to Slingin' Sam Darnold. At this point he's a known quantity versus unknown, and I could see us menacing the rest of the NFC for several years with him. He has the kind of arm talent and ability to throw dimes all over the place that you don't see very often. I know JJ is waiting in the wings, but man I hate to let Sam go. As far as Danny Dimes? I think he would be a fantastic backup to either Sam or JJ.
Not disagreeing. Just saying that maybe the culture was a big factor for DJ too. Look at the changes in Sam, for example. Not all the wrinkles are ironed out, but he's still playing some damned good football despite the hiccups. And DJ would be an upgrade over Mullens.
I think Jones would love the culture in Minnesota after being in NY....and get to learn from KOC. Jones should be on the phone with KAM the minute he got his release.
I was just saying this to my wife! He’s got a similar skill set to JJ and if KOC can rehabilitate Darnold why not Jones? Like you said though as a back up
Never understood not taking chances on players with high reward/ low risk. Kinda like flipping houses. Buy low fix them up sell high. I'm hoping we might be able to do this with Darnold for draft picks.
I posted on Bleacher this idea before he got cut. Be good backup. Could teach JJ alot of the mental things he went through that were tough. Seems like decent person. Could help win a game if needed. Very similar Sam Darnold situation. He may want to start but no one is signing him to be starter. Is a mama I can fix him candidate.
High-quality backup QB is Jones's floor. Middling starter is his ceiling. Don't expect those "wow" throws from Jones, but he could be a competent game manager. Same physicality as Brock Purdy, but not the same processing. It would be interesting to see if KOC can improve this one. Also, I wonder if some of the people crying 'NO!' to Jones are the same ones that saw no upside to Sam Darnold...
Lot of people are throwing this idea around because it makes sense. Mullens has never proven himself to be a reliable back up. Daniel Jones is a major upgrade for a more productive QB2, only thing that sucks is he gets paid like a QB1. Best thing the Vikes can hope for is Darnold becomes a consistent game manager that doesn't make mistakes, but let's face it he does. We need another viable option if he goes awry. I'm in on this.
Simple question: since we will absolutely not, under any circumstances play either Mullens or Rypen, would we play Jones as a relief QB is our starter is having a bad night? Also: it’s treacherous to just assume JJ will be the heir apparent and do better than Darnold.
For a back up project, at a minimum price, sure. I think every QB in the league can be good, if you have the right pieces around them. Offensive line, coaching, receivers. Hey, Vikings have that. Let's go!! But first things first .
With what KOC has done for Sammy D, here could squeeze some production out of Danny dimes and let JJ sit a few games next year and ease him in. JJ will still only be 22 next year.
He was QB3, not QB 2, and they were not going to risk playing him as they would have to pay the injury settlement, so, he had no chance to play anymore. As a real QB2 he has a chance to play.
All of you in these comments are insane. His contract is omg and this team finally has money because they DON'T have to pay QB and Jones may not be a bad QB but the numbers are what they are
I would take him over any quarterback the Vikings have on their roster asides from McCarthy obviously. This guy was set up to fail just like every New York qb since Eli Manning and yet he was set up fit failure throughout some point of his career. I’m on board with this
Better than Mullens! It is super cringe to have kept him on the roster after his disastrous 1-5 record last year 😬 It is incredible to me that we won a game with a single field goal 😳
I like Mullins he’s a true gunslinger and he’s no better than Sam. Sam’s playing has dropped off since the first five games. We don’t need another contract for a quarterback especially a very bad quarterback. He’ll no
What wrong with all this qb to the vikings we have qb for right now sam darnold then jj McCarthy that why then drafted him that what there plans is cheaper so then can bulid around him far Jones he's terrible so
Only makes sense that it comes full circle after the Vikings are the ones that got him paid in the first place
Nailed it😂
Id take him as a back up over Mullens
Facts , mullens becomes 3rd
I kinda like Mullens
@@bmr5groupvideos420 I'll continue to say this, Nick mullens is a fairly decent back up and a lot of teams would be happy to have him
I agree - it's always about price. How much to pay - he's now a veteran minimum player. I see no reason why the Vikings should avoid him if he's available for the veteran minimum.
Jones is not garbage. This is exactly who we need backing up JJ from here on out. Jones has good upside!
Worst contract in NFL history belongs to Deshaun Watson (Nice call Cleveland)...Daniel Jones as a Backup is a great idea for the Vikes now and next year unless they go after Fields for next year

Andy dropped an absolute GEM in this video, KOC and the vikings is rehab for wayward QBs.
Alternate plan: let’s not bring in players that suck.
No, no, no....hell no! Unless he plays for free, even then no!
Oh my lordy. The comment I made in the last podcast comes-up in the next video. Andy, you have completely influenced me. 🤣
Nope. I’m not interested in a “what if” Minnesota needs to move forward and Jones isn’t that. Not saying just saying
If Darnold returns in 2025, it would be Sam Darnold QB1 (3rd overall), JJ McCarthy QB2 (10th overall), and Daniel Jones QB3 (6th overall). That's a stud QB room all first rounders 😮😮😮

Actually a very sound idea for both sides.
One project at a time please.
I could sign up for this as a back-up. I'd prefer Sam, but unless he / we implode over the final 6 games then I think Sam will realize a nice contract somewhere else.

Jones has zero drive in his body, he's been horrible for 4 years
Not disagreeing. Just saying that maybe the culture was a big factor for DJ too. Look at the changes in Sam, for example. Not all the wrinkles are ironed out, but he's still playing some damned good football despite the hiccups. And DJ would be an upgrade over Mullens.

I think so as well as soon as I saw his presser pre release I was like yeah just in case this is as money ball all in as we can be rn
No
No
No
No
Hell mofo NO
We should welcome with open arms another banished young QB, once he knows the offense he'd be a solid BACKUP for JJ.
Oh for God sakes no
I was just saying this to my wife! He’s got a similar skill set to JJ and if KOC can rehabilitate Darnold why not Jones? Like you said though as a back up
Hes better than Mullens.
... is he?
@LemonInYourEyes yes
Never understood not taking chances on players with high reward/ low risk. Kinda like flipping houses. Buy low fix them up sell high. I'm hoping we might be able to do this with Darnold for draft picks.
I'd prefer him to Mullens but I still think Tannehill would be cheaper and fits in this offense better.
This year TNF game against the Rams, defense gave me Ed Donatello vibes
I'm sure his name is spelt differently than the Ninja Turtle but voice to chat and don't really care to fix it
I posted on Bleacher this idea before he got cut. Be good backup. Could teach JJ alot of the mental things he went through that were tough. Seems like decent person. Could help win a game if needed. If we can get Mullens out of here then I’m for it. In my opinion we should’ve kept Hall instead.
100000% need him as the backup
High-quality backup QB is Jones's floor. Middling starter is his ceiling. Don't expect those "wow" throws from Jones, but he could be a competent game manager. Same physicality as Brock Purdy, but not the same processing. It would be interesting to see if KOC can improve this one.

Clear his contract and he might get a position on a good team as a backup
You make a compelling case Andy
Andy always thinking on how to make this team better. I think this could make sense.
Lot of people are throwing this idea around because it makes sense. Mullens has never proven himself to be a reliable back up. Would be a distraction for Darnold in the midst of a playoff run.
"Hire him (Donatell) back just so we can fire him again" ... lmfao 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
WE DON'T WANT YOUR BIG BOX OF THROW AWAY NY QUARTERBACKS ANDY!
Simple question: since we will absolutely not, under any circumstances play either Mullens or Rypen, would we play Jones as a relief QB is our starter is having a bad night?
Also: it’s treacherous to just assume JJ will be the heir apparent and do better than Darnold.

I think every QB in the league can be good, if you have the right pieces around them. Offensive line, coaching, receivers. Hey, Vikings have that. Let's go!!
But first things first .
We are not a dumping ground for washed up NY quarterbacks
Every Qb that comes to Minnesota as a free agent has done good. Jeff George,Cunningham,Keenum,Bradford, and a few more
With what KOC has done for Sammy D, here could squeeze some production out of Danny dimes and let JJ sit a few games next year and ease him in. JJ will still only be 22 next year.
Yes please💜
See if the cowboys want to release Lance instead.
Smh hell no
Now the whole 2007 Giants comparison Is ooooooon!
I knew this video was coming soon as I saw the news lmao
I remember how stunned everyone was when Jones was drafted 6.
Darnold is gonna look for a contract so if Jones is willing to accept it, he'll be a perfect backup for JJ.
No, get trey lance if you're looking
If anything it would be a good experiment to see if KOC is a so-called QB Whisperer.
Low key reminds me of Rich Gannon. Athletic QB who faltered early. Can he be that guy?
Bro please NOOO
Would rather have him than Fields
What?! Fields is the bomb. I would personally love having Justin Fields!
Nah just nah
NO
If he's free , if anything he's a tradable bargaining chip . He's a upgrade from Mullins as a backup ,
At 6'5" 240lbs, could be our Nick Foles-like backup. McCarthy, Jones/Mullens > McCarthy, Mullens, Rypien.
Go get him vikings. Jones is better than Mullens. 😊
KMC has a knack for qb dev
If he doesn't want to be QB2 in NY, why would he want to be QB2 here?
He was QB3, not QB 2, and they were not going to risk playing him as they would have to pay the injury settlement, so, he had no chance to play anymore. As a real QB2 he has a chance to play.
He’s going to the raiders, or across the hallway to the jets after bird bones quits
agree to disagree
Dudes a baller in a bad system. It’s been proven over and over again in recent years. Jones would be a better fit than Darnold.
kwesi loves them certified pre owneds
All of you in these comments are insane. His contract is omg and this team finally has money because they DON'T have to pay QB and Jones may not be a bad QB but the numbers are what they are

As a back up hell yeah I'd take him
No bro no!! You're drunk or low on content ideas, but nooo!!!
KOC has become like Andy Reid…#QBWhisper
I think that he can be better than Mullens, and the other backup
I don’t like it. I want Sam Darnold.
Jones is garbage. Still better than Mullens though. I'd rather have Trey Lance as a backup. Always liked that kid.
Jones would be a high level backup. He’d be better than Mullens.
Better than Mullens! It is super cringe to have kept him on the roster after his disastrous 1-5 record last year 😬 It is incredible to me that we won a game with a single field goal 😳
Let’s get Aaron Rodgers as a backup 😂
May as a practice squad
Andy, are you wearing green and gold?
Back up, yeah I'll possie with you. Skol. Jesus is coming soon!!!!
Honestly i would pass on Jones. I like Mullens and Rypien better as back up QBs.
No.
Daniel Jones owes the Vikings millions so he should play here for free.
Hey you stole my idea from your other thread…lol
Dont hate this one bit
Danaaaayyyy…Danny Booooyyy…🏈🪓
I like Mullins he’s a true gunslinger and he’s no better than Sam. Sam’s playing has dropped off since the first five games. We don’t need another contract for a quarterback especially a very bad quarterback. He’ll no
Aaron Rodgers .
nnnnnnnoooooooo!
I'm down
Any qb will thrive in Minnesota. Daniel jones even beat the pretender vikings in the playoffs. Lol
Might be your worst take of all time
At delete this big bro don’t speak garbage like this into existence
No
What wrong with all this qb to the vikings we have qb for right now sam darnold then jj McCarthy that why then drafted him that what there plans is cheaper so then can bulid around him far Jones he's terrible so
Hard pass!!!!
Wow I can't believe you want Daniel Jones as a starter over JJ McCarthy
Fr
I'm cool with Vanilla Vick as a backup paying him next to nothing
