  • In honor of the Beatles' 1962 performances at the StarClub in Hamburg, Germany. The April visit had Pete Best on drums; the year-end performances featured Ringo Starr on drums. Audio is from the December 1962 performances at the StarClub. This version is red-hot compared to the record!

This a delightful audio! People tend to forget how much time The Beatles spent in Germany and the Cavern just honing their skills WITHOUT the pressure of a demanding audience. They learned, had a blast on stage, and performed for HUNDREDS of hours in these little clubs before anyone had really heard of them. I think this was a great advantage for them.

    Lennon: On my nose...
Reminds me of when he sang 'to the penitentiary' instead of 'way beyond the sea' in Come Go with Me by Del Vikings, and his Daily Howl lines - clever guy, great artist but also a natural comedian, the thing is no one would have noticed with a predominantly German audience, which makes it even more funny, his wit will be enjoyed for as long as the recordings last.. hundreds if not thousands of years

The Star Club was the Taj Mahal compared to their first gig in Hamburg at the Kaiser Keller, which was an absolute dump. But they didn't know that, they just wanted to play music. And a foreign country was pretty exotic. I had this star club album when I was about 14 and just really getting into The Beatles. I didn't really like it much at the time as I didn't realize the historical importance of it. I would buy my Beatles albums from an old record shop that stocked some rare albums. I didn't know they were rare or worth anything at the time. This was almost 40 years ago. I was buying all of the Beatles official albums mostly, but I do remember an album called Hey Jude. I believe it was an American import. It was a sort of Past Masters Vol 2, before that album was released. I remember it had Paperback Writer, Rain, Lady Madonna, The Inner light on it aswell as some others. But at the time I was mostly interested in collecting all of the official Beatles albums. As I was still at school and both my parents were unemployed, it was a bad time for employment in the U.K in the early to mid '80s. So I would save every penny I got to get my next Beatles album. Some years later, I read in a music magazine that the Beatles album Hey Jude was worth around £800 pounds. That was about 15 years ago. That old music shop, which is long gone, had some great albums looking back. I just didn't realize at the time, as I was determined to collect all my Beatles albums.
P.S. I've just looked it up and someone put the Hey Jude album on eBay starting at £9.99p he ended up selling it for £1,990 pounds. I have to say it had never been played. If I had of bought that album I would of course played it, but I have always looked after my albums really well, so maybe it may have still been worth something, but now I think I would rather keep the album, unless someone made a ridiculously high bid for it.

Sutcliffe's death was caused by a kick to the head he received during a fight after a performance in Britian. You need to read the book "The Man Who Gave The Beatles Away" written by their first manager, Allan Williams. They went to Germany in 1960 where Stuart met Astrid and he stayed there when the others returned home. They got kicked out because George was only 17.

No sé confundan.
    Abur

Stuart Sutcliffe was in the band at this time and always had his back towards the audience. He couldn't play guitar, but john wanted him in the group because he was a great artist and his work kept them in cash in the early days. He was attacked in Hamburg and kicked in the head. he died later of a brain tumour. His girlfriend Astrid invented the Beatle haircuts.

Stu died 10 April 62. He wasn't on this recording. Stu was attacked in Liverpool, not Hamburg, and was a sick guy even before that. Astrid's boyfriend before Stu, Klaus Voormann, and their friend, Jurgen Vollmer, had "Beatles"-style haircuts, and the boys copied their style (except for Pete Best). ~The Beatles: Tune In, by Mark Lowisohn

It's funny.... people make these negative comments about Pete's playing and they are people who have never heard Pete play. Look up Pete Best Band on youtube, listen to Pete play, then make an educated comment.

DennisVernier bit difficult because after 60 years of practice he's still being shadowed on the drums by another drummer.
His current band has 2 drummers in it, that tells me all I need to know.
Pete best is only known because he was in the biggest band in the world before they became famous, and he's ridden on that gravy train since.
In interviews he's very contradictory and claims he was nearest to John, and more recently his great friendship with George.
He seems to have only been friends with dead Beatles who can't reply back

They were learning to jell as a band night after night they grew into a tight unit unde nightly r scrutiny by a raucous audience.
For another experience you should look up on You Tube the German Blue Flames LIVE cover in 1965 of the Fortunes of "You've Got Your Troubles I've Got Mine". recorded on a weekly German TV show. The baritone who sings the finale verse sounds better than Elvis.

The Star club was like thier fourth or fifth trip to Hamburg . They didn't want to go .the contract made by Brian had been made a while back and in the interum they'd become a big deal in England and we're somewhat miffed . I've read their performances described as sloppy and phoned in . Obviously from this perspective this is nonsense. They are loose, excited/ing and incredible.
