BOUNCY Aevin Dugas boasts the world's biggest afro - measuring an incredible four-and-a-half foot around. It takes TWO days to wash and dry and has got so big the 38-year-old struggles to see out from it. The Louisiana native has become a cult hero in her hometown and says everyone from toddlers to grandmothers have been inspired to 'go natural'. However, her record-breaking hair also brings its fair share of trouble. She is unable to drive a car with it up and also ties it back when out on first dates in case it 'overwhelms' them.
Videographer / Director: Tyler Kaufman
Producer: John Balson

loïssacésulfame-k the struggle of having poofy hair
Yes. 10 years ago I had an afro half this size and people were asking to touch it. And sometimes they don't ask. They just do.
If people already touch my hair without my permission and it's short and just curly (I'm multi racial, mostly white), I'm betting she rarely gets any peace except when it's in buns or braids or stuff like that
all my friends touch our friends hair cuz she as curly and i never touch it cuz its honestly so childish and direspectfull

Why am I tearing up? That was so beautiful and inspiring! She is gorgeous, and she makes me want to go natural. It's awesome to see a black woman fully embrace herself. As a fellow black woman, it can be so easy to just give in, and attempt to look like how society perceives a woman should look (long, flowing hair, without a kink or a curl), but seeing a woman who has gone natural and loving her blackness, just makes me feel empowered!
It's good to stand your ground and be different. If you want your hair straight for fashion then do that, but if you like your natural hair then wear that. It's all about personality, if you got a strong personality society can't get to you. Just stay true to your selve and your own needs.
and her hair is still long! it’s just the shrinkage that makes it shorter. her long afro isn’t the same as long straight hair and that’s ok!
I'm trying to get an afro like this and bigger

As a non black person, I agree. What majestic and glorious hair!!
+N. Zhiv why thank you
+Validet Productions I went natural about 3 yr ago and my hair haven't grown an inch. I honestly don't know why. and naw my family is bashing me bout how short n ugly it looks telling me that I had longer hair when I was younger. I feel ashamed of myself. I feel less then a human, even a girl.
+princess pino Are you doing protective hairstyles or is your hair out? Protective hairstyles are a life changer my hair is down my back. Also use Shea butter, water and some oil to keep it moisturized
+princess pino hi, baby girl.
Firstly, as much as you may love your family, please do not allow them or anyone to berate your personal decisions about how you've chosen to wear your hair.
Secondly, beauty comes from within. So you never have to feel like less than a person, or not beautiful or ashamed for your hair.
For many ladies, they've only achieved their desired natural hair using different methods, some by trial and error, but all by perseverance. Don't give up. Find out what will work for you and keep at it. And be confident! God bless.
Goes to show that any black woman can have healthy, thick hair if she'd just leave it alone and let it grow in it's natural state.
Eccentricka1 Obviously she doesnt just "leave it alone" she works very hard to keep it up and looking nice and even pays a hairdresser. Also most black people's hair will not look like an afro if left alone. You kind of have to shape it to look like that. I'm pretty sure if a black women just left her hair "alone and let it grown in its natural state" it would start to dread together...and not those nice uniform dreads you typically see either. That last part i know from personal experience thanks to a bout of depression that left me completely disinterested in personal hygiene.
undetestable1...By ''leave it alone'' I mean chemicals ie relaxing and harsh hairstyles ie too tight weaves...NOT general maintenance in order to keep it healthy.
Eccentricka1 Wait a minute not everyone can have that naturally.
Most but not all. Some people have weak looking strainds with bald patches and spots that barely grows, while others have long ,strong, and full locks. Not all natural hair is going to get the same praise.
E J Darly Yeah I know some people are luckier than others in regards to hair growth but this applies to people of all ethnicites, as I personally know some Asians and Whites that complain about not being able to grow their hair past a certain length, or their hair is too thin etc. Some people are lucky others are not.
well if we didn't have a Eurocentric society then we wouldn't have to assimilate.
*Imagine being behind her in a class.*
Braids actually flattens afro hair. It looks like every braids on wavy hair
Imagine sitting in front of her
Or in a cinema
As someone with an afro i can confirm people will start a lynching on you if you disturb their view in the slightest.
Well you're screwed 😂
She is one fine sista
Yessss she is
forsure !
Indeed!
Ikr 😍
Yes the hell she is! My goodness😍🍫💓
Going natural is one of the BEST decisions I've ever made! ! I've had so much growth in only 10months! Black women stop the damage to ur hair and embrace ur natural beauty! Our hair is "naturally" thick and long learn hw 2 manage it!!
I can't take care of my natural beauty as I am lazy and don't have time for that...
Oye S. ikr? That's the thing. I wish I could go natural, but when I see the maintenance... It's so much work.
Ya'll Im not gonna lie it can be lots of work!! Definitely high maintenance but lady's the amount of growth I've received in a year and a few months is surreal!! Totally worth the amount of time and effort I'm putting into it
Tika Collins I still have time. I'm still plenty young and I'm not even an adult. Maybe then, when I have a job and can buy my own products, I'll try. Right now, I just can't handle it, it'll just break off XD
I definitely understand girly : p

now we just need 200 million more black women to walk around like this and the weave industry WILL die forever!!!
I agree
but not all 200 million got this natural hair style tho ? but itd be nice tbh
Right... too bad most of them are allready turned and will stay turned to the white ''fashion'' industry. Make the Indian/Chinees Vendors very rich.
@Pooh Asia True but they do wear it back to back every week and 360 days of the year. They don't care about edges or breakage that's not glamour or protecte style anymore , no other ''etnicity does that.
do you know how long it takes do hair like that? i cut nearly all of my hair off last year because it wss getting way too big and my hair is hella thick so it took like 30-45 minutes just to moisturise and then put it in one simple style. whether it be afro, two puffs, one puff or whatever
Her hair is absolutely stunning😱😱❤️❤️😱😱❤️❤️
her hair is so beautiful i hope she inspires more blacks to go natural Wether it be afro, curls or dreads. i'm sick and tired of seeing black african american girls/islanders put wigs on unless its for cosplay. I love whites and all colors but europeans really screwed up how other nationalities view themselves from white Jesus to having straight hair.
well how many salons tell you how to wear afros. youtube just gives you all the info in the world. i went natural but couldnt figure out how to make a fro so i gave up . the problem is really superficial
aby mondesir That was a very mature and fair response. But I love seeing black men in dreads and braids as well as PrettyOn Fleek stated.
yes Im going natural I think relaxers are ugly. Most black girls dont understand how natural hair works they think they are gonna have tiny afros forever if only they could see the beauty in it.
More Black & Latino women should ditch the chemicals & wear their natural crowns. Everything about you is beautiful.
Truly amazing. I just started my natural hair journey. I've always been so shy with letting my natural out because I believed it wasn't beautiful enough. These are the kind of woman who inspired me that there isn't anything wrong with my hair it's beautiful and defies gravity.
Rock that beautiful hair girl. Always remember, umuhle.

Me too Noni, 2019 February
How does she survive those summers in Louisiana with hair this big and thick? It's beautiful but I keep thinking about the heat lol
+Kia Maria braids?
+Guerline Pierre no her braids would be down past her butt. her hair would be down to her knees when stretched. that's the magic of afro hair
Actually the hair cools her off because it works as a shade plus it's so long and thick that the hot sunlight could barely get through it you might think that a man with a beard would be all sweaty under there but they are actually not
it isn’t that hot down here lol
black hair is built for the heat
Fucking awsome

Bella Lule Fuck yeah!😄
Gorgeous hair. Nothing like seeing black women embracing their natural beauty. she thick too * - *
She's a 4b/c texture and being natural can be tough I'm a natural myself!!!
It’s not tough we need to start speaking positively about our hair
Heeey, I'm natural too💁🏾♀️💁🏾♀️💁🏾♀️. The lady in the videos hair doesn't look like 4c hair. Did you see her curl pattern when it was much shorter. That looks like type 3 hair or 4a at a stretch
Christ is A black man! Acknowledging that 4b/4c hair requires a bit of high maintenance isn’t speaking negatively. It’s just stating their experience. We have to take extra precautions when keeping our hair healthy. Wash day process can take hours of detangling and deep conditioning. We just have to find the right methods to accommodate a busy lifestyle while having hair upkeep. I keep my hair in twists for low maintenance, but not everyone like that style.
I have 4b, and it's super thick it also needs lots of moisture. It can be challenging, but only until I learned to comb it carefully.
@@thorisomolefe2276 at 0:35 if if that is her hair it is definitely not type 4, looks like 3b or 3c.

Very upsetting with some of these comments....why every time a black person achieves something, people always and i mean always try to find a way to discredit it. " Its a wig", "its fake". Just SHUT THE HELL UP and give the woman her credit for her hard work. If it was some other race there wouldn't be so many bad comments.
