    BOUNCY Aevin Dugas boasts the world's biggest afro - measuring an incredible four-and-a-half foot around. It takes TWO days to wash and dry and has got so big the 38-year-old struggles to see out from it. The Louisiana native has become a cult hero in her hometown and says everyone from toddlers to grandmothers have been inspired to 'go natural'. However, her record-breaking hair also brings its fair share of trouble. She is unable to drive a car with it up and also ties it back when out on first dates in case it 'overwhelms' them.
    Videographer / Director: Tyler Kaufman
    Producer: John Balson

    Why am I tearing up? That was so beautiful and inspiring! She is gorgeous, and she makes me want to go natural. It's awesome to see a black woman fully embrace herself. As a fellow black woman, it can be so easy to just give in, and attempt to look like how society perceives a woman should look (long, flowing hair, without a kink or a curl), but seeing a woman who has gone natural and loving her blackness, just makes me feel empowered!

    • @kallahari7542
      @kallahari7542 5 років тому +12

      It's good to stand your ground and be different. If you want your hair straight for fashion then do that, but if you like your natural hair then wear that. It's all about personality, if you got a strong personality society can't get to you. Just stay true to your selve and your own needs.

I feel less then a human,even a girl.

      +princess pino hi, baby girl.
      Firstly, as much as you may love your family, please do not allow them or anyone to berate your personal decisions about how you've chosen to wear your hair.
      Secondly, beauty comes from within. So you never have to feel like less than a person, or not beautiful or ashamed for your hair.
      For many ladies, they've only achieved their desired natural hair using different methods, some by trial and error, but all by perseverance. Don't give up. Find out what will work for you and keep at it. And be confident! God bless.

    Goes to show that any black woman can have healthy, thick hair if she'd just leave it alone and let it grow in it's natural state.

    • @undetestable1
      @undetestable1 9 років тому +207

      Eccentricka1 Obviously she doesnt just "leave it alone" she works very hard to keep it up and looking nice and even pays a hairdresser. Also most black people's hair will not look like an afro if left alone. You kind of have to shape it to look like that. I'm pretty sure if a black women just left her hair "alone and let it grown in its natural state" it would start to dread together...and not those nice uniform dreads you typically see either. That last part i know from personal experience thanks to a bout of depression that left me completely disinterested in personal hygiene.

    • @The_torero
      @The_torero 9 років тому +223

      undetestable1...By ''leave it alone'' I mean chemicals ie relaxing and harsh hairstyles ie too tight weaves...NOT general maintenance in order to keep it healthy.

    • @ejdarly4733
      @ejdarly4733 9 років тому +37

      Eccentricka1 Wait a minute not everyone can have that naturally.
      Most but not all. Some people have weak looking strainds with bald patches and spots that barely grows, while others have long ,strong, and full locks. Not all natural hair is going to get the same praise.

    • @The_torero
      @The_torero 9 років тому +15

      E J Darly Yeah I know some people are luckier than others in regards to hair growth but this applies to people of all ethnicites, as I personally know some Asians and Whites that complain about not being able to grow their hair past a certain length, or their hair is too thin etc. Some people are lucky others are not.

      Christ is A black man! Acknowledging that 4b/4c hair requires a bit of high maintenance isn’t speaking negatively. It’s just stating their experience. We have to take extra precautions when keeping our hair healthy. Wash day process can take hours of detangling and deep conditioning. We just have to find the right methods to accommodate a busy lifestyle while having hair upkeep. I keep my hair in twists for low maintenance, but not everyone like that style.
