It was wrong for the CGI ship to be in the remastered; in “Thanks for the Memory,” the shots, along with its jigsaw puzzle, used the original Red Dwarf model ship.
The remaster is absolutely terrible. In the very first episode, when they meet Cat for the first time, Rimmer tries to attack Cat, but runs straight through him. In the remasted version, you can hear the sound of Rimmer knocking things over, after he runs through Cat, it simply doesn't make any sense for that to happen, Rinmer wouldn't be able to knock anything over, because he can't touch anything. These remasters were as unesscraey as the original Star Wars special editions.
So if this was Pre-Kryten and there's no Light Bee, how did Rimmer enter Red Dwarf of the past without anyone noticing? Red Dwarf could only sustain one hologram at a time.
This was before that one crewmember died and got brought back as a hologram. Also, I think the rule amongst us RD fans is that with all the smegging about with time, you just roll with it.
@@IronFanJoe They shut down most of the unessential systems so that there would be enough power for two holograms, something that wouldn't be able to be done when there was a full crew.
Technically Rimmer could have been casted from original RD through stasis leak... But dont think about it. The whole series is an inconsistent mess with its lore. It is about characters and their interaction between them.
It was only sustaining one hologram at a time. Time's subjective, so from Holly's perspective she was broadcasting Rimmer now, regardless of who she might be broadcasting then.
I never understood why they didn't just stay back in the past, They could have gotten off red dwarf, let it sail off to its destiny, and then head home to earth.
I think it was just that one small area of the ship that was preserved in a sort of loop not a full "doorway to the past". Granted I don't actually know how the writer set this up, so is just a guess.
It isn't a doorway into the past, it only preserved a small envelope of space-time, I.E. the ship from 3 weeks before the accident, and for 3 million years adrift.
@FutureCloud Well, I hope we do, I'm not really a fan of DVD's especially when they could be easily lost or damaged. While on the other hand, VHS tapes are made from a stronger material so they can't easily be damaged, as well as the size of the tape itself, being too big to lose.
Red Dwarfs width is large but not 2000+ floors large. Especially if we're talking the original dimentions. This scene always made me wonder if Red Dwarfs gravity works so that you are actually pulled towards the tail end of the ship and everyone on the ship is sideways.
Tbf it's possible, in the books it's described as under constant thrust, which would mean there would be a constant gravitational influence. Shows/books like the expanse show the principle in action!
Who's great idea was it to replace an original masterpiece Red Dwarf with that CGI rubbish? Like taking the Mona Lisa down and replacing it with a kids painting of 2 years old.
... I'm sure this show is funny.... Actually, no, I doubt it, because the director of the show or the studio was affraid I wouldn't get the jokes or laugh so they added canned laughter to the mix which I am virulently allergic to...
The BBC is proud that generally it doesn't use canned laughter per se, but rather films sitcoms in front of an audience where possible, so the cast can relate to the audience reaction. I still don't like it though
Because they thought of the same thing. He didn't ask any further details, like what do you mean, he immediately snapped fingers and grabbed the soap right away. It shows, that he also wondered himself about the very same thing, before Rimmer even finished asking the question. Actually Cat had thought about that too, as he snapped fingers at the exact same time, so they all had the same idea, if they can go back in time, can they bring anything/anyone back to the future/their present with them? That is not a sign of bad acting, that shows how their minds worked the same way at the same time. It does happen in real life, that people can predict or finish someone's lines before they finish them. So Lister acted before Rimmer finished his line. If such detail is bad acting, then lots of similar situations in real life must be too due to bad acting or what. When you predict something, it's bad acting. When you finish someone's line, it's bad acting. When you act sooner, than expected, it's bad acting. Obviously.
The part after 2:39 is great! especially where Cat says lets do it!
That's dedication right there. That woman demonstrated a live cyanide pill just for the sake of a safety video.

The absolutely fabulous Morwenna Banks. Sadly the only appearance in Red Dwarf, although after taking a cyanide pill it's not surprising! :>)
