Big respect. Good to see younger runners destroying a classic. In my 30s now and one of the greatest accomplishments was simply beating this on extreme in my teens. Hardest thing I ever invested in, and that was enough for me. Can't imagine how long it took to optimize each screen like it's own segment in a single run, and being able to compensate on the fly is just insane.
Kojima Productions really knows how to make amazing graphics. MGS5 still looks great today and I'd argue that MGS4 could be mistaken for a PS4 launch title.

I came out of the torture with a sliver of health left and had to fight Solidus with like 1 HP. I'm glad the MGS games did away with button mashing torture sequences.
Gotta love seeing things that gave you a tremendous amount of grief being made a complete mockery of. My first time through on extreme I somehow swam into a mine on my way to Vamp and was left with min health so I had to try and beat him without enough HP to tank a single hit. Even with the infinite ammo wig it was a nightmare. I got quite a kick out of watching you slap his jaw asunder.
I’ve was thinking about trying this myself so I looked this up to see how to get past the rays quickly. And let me just say that was unbelievable to see how you were taking out those rays. I was saying to myself you know what I’m probably not going to able to do this. Anyways congrats on getting it.
This and mgs3 are the games I had the hardest ever getting highest ranks on. I did get bigboss ranking on mgs1 on extreme no damage, mgs the twin snakes and mgs4, mgs4 being 3.5 hours. I wish I could get foxhound ranking and bigboss ranking respectively on mgs3 and mgs2
100% using some of this, less the technique and skill involved, to make it through my Big Boss run right now. The Emma waiting in the president room part.. is that a trick or does leaving her behind make her spawn in there when you leave the room and come back?
I remember beating this on the American extreme difficulty years ago as I was going for all the dog tags. That metal gear ray gauntlet was brutal till I learned how to bait the water cannon attack and managed to get the timing right.
@@nyfinest487 you need to run pretty much right underneath it so it can't target with the missiles. The AI will then try the water cannon which is a OHKO if it hits (iirc) but it telegraphs it first and once it's locked in its animation it can't cancel out. This gives you time to run out, target and hit it with a stinger missile then run back underneath it and bait the cannon again. The timing does take practice but if you position correctly the other ones on the field can't hit you with their missiles as they'll collide with the Ray. Try to have some rations in case of an error though as it's 25 Rays in total and easy to make a mistake. Edit: when it does the water cannon it opens and exposes its "face" which is where you want to shoot for most damage. Would have helped to mention that!
Hey i know you kind of answered this question already with Revalet but I'm curious what controller do you use, and if it's an xbox 360 how do you depress the button slightly so you can get the dogtags from enemies. Obviously that wasn't a requirement with this one but i want too do a 100% playthrough and everytime i "freeze" an enemy i only have the choice too fire, i cant reposition because the button just fully depresses no matter how slow i release.I have V's fix as well. Do you use xbox or ps2? i find with xbox the right bumper doesn't function so i gotta roll PS2.
Amazing run man, I've never seen a speedrun for this til now which has left me wondering: when you battle Fortune, how was she unable to hit you when you were jumping out of cover with the socom? Was great to watch and an amazing run
When you pop out with a weapon you get s so I'm just using that to ensure I dont get hit during the fight. Gun needs to be empty as shooting at her with a bullet triggers an unskippable mini cutscene.

I was never speedrunning this game BUT I did have talent murdering Fatman on bossrush mode it went down very similar to this beautiful run 24:27, only difference is I wouldn’t shoot his skate out from under him. I’d just tag him with the Socom but there would be a moment I had to hunt out ammo
if they are not seen (falling into the void or into the water) they do not count. If they are still seen and you can interact with the body (falling off railing into bottom floor of Engine Room) that counts.

no, DS3 does but i dont think it can be mapped on PC anyway. best thing to do is map square to right trigger. sorry that is only PCSX2, for PC version there is nothing you can do, best to practice using weapon select unequip to cancel aiming... thats what I do.
I tried the L3 on the PS3 and it doesnt work, maybe thats a XBOX360 Controller thing coz it doesnt have any button sensitivity (soft/hard press)? I also use the unequip method coz the soft/hard press on the PS3 doesnt work like the PS2 did, its really sensitive on the PS3.

During the Tanker Guard Rush fight, the last 3 guards were shot in the head and makes the fade to black out of the fight happen sooner. For whatever reason, it will not count as a kill until they hit the ground and start to "bleed out"
It’s a glitch using either a PPK with Raiden or with both characters using a throwable item to force your Hitbox into the load zone. The game checks when you enter a new room for your key card lvl and that’s one of the few rooms that doesn’t check. All others cause softlocks. More updated runs also use it to skip the Engine Room section after Olga.

I know there was two versions of this game and I played both of them but I remember I was playing and had to fight Revolver Ocelot and it was in a square room with water in the center of the room and if you fall in the water you drowned and died it was supposedly highly oxygenated water and can make you sink to the bottom but I can't find that battle here and I had no problem playing through the game until I got to that point and it's near the end he had about seven bars of life and I always took all of them away except for the last one got halfway down and then he started attacking me like a crackhead Difficulty European extreme Radar none Game over if discovered Yes I had to play through the game without being seen which makes it a hell of a lot harder just wanted to point that out

It was found out years ago that if you headshot the last 3 guards with the USP, the cutscene will come in faster and cancel them being counted as kills.
For whatever reason if you kill those last 3 quickly it will go to the cutscene and the fight will be over before they officially count as kills. iirc they need to be on the ground and bleeding from being shot in the head to count. In SoL you need to tranq the first one and kill the last 2 to compensate for the dropped frame rate and slower rate of them coming out.
The leaderboard on speedrun.com goes based off of IGT (In Game Time) and is not shown until the end of credits at the score screen. We still have the option to track RTA (Real Time Action) at the end of the Solidus fight for comparison. But it is not necessary.
I have studied many speed run, you did many mistakes so I think you can even improve it. Is on pc much faster then PS3? Coz I saw other speed run, ok in something you did better but they did better in something else, but their time was over 01:30. (my record is 02:20 (without loadtrick and glitchless) there many things I don t understand how you can do it, I try and try but nothing, enemies see me anytime ). I really would do like to be good as much as you :)

I’ve despised this game. Not because I hate it, i actually and quite fond of it but I can’t beat it, everything feels like a chore and the more I play the more I’m looking up a tutorial to get 10 minutes farther only to have to do that again, I’d literally have to watch this video 4 times over just to want to play it because it informs you about little to nothing during your play through.
Great run. My only issue is that you could have explained the hacks and shortcuts like they do on GGDQ. Like many I’m not a casual gamer. Finished and unlocked it all multiple times but just way too long ago. And don’t know all the latest meta. Otherwise great stuff

@@goncaloaraujo8621 the only requirement in terms of your status that is restricted is 3 alerts which is the 3 forced through the story (Guard Rush, both Tengu fights) There’s also a forced caution after you talk to Ames and attempt to leave the core. You either haven’t played the game or are extremely ignorant.

I read that one of the reqs is no caution states but you had one in the beginning plus you killed 3 in the tunnel? 🤔 is there other exceptions?
Those three in the Guard Rush do not count as the cutscene stops them from counting as kills.

Revalet Purchased the CD-ROM and used a fan patch to make it work on my Windows 10 PC. It's called V's fix and you can find it on Reddit

Yeah, I was wondering too. It just showed up on the counter when he got to the bottom of the oil fence ladder.
He activates the cutscene with those kills in the tanker and they don't count because their bodies never hit the floor.

It was found out years ago that if you headshot the last 3 guards with the USP, the cutscene will come in faster and cancel them being counted as kills.

@@goncaloaraujo8621 the only requirement in terms of your status that is restricted is 3 alerts which is the 3 forced through the story (Guard Rush, both Tengu fights) There’s also a forced caution after you talk to Ames and attempt to leave the core. You either haven’t played the game or are extremely ignorant.
