The mentality was extremely positive. However, the numerous giveaways from the back end and midfield need to be cleaned up. Not enough poise in finishing and not enough poise when under any type of pressure when on the ball.
It was a fantastic game. Canada not being afraid and taking the game to their opponent no matter who that may be is great to see. Crepeau was outstanding and yes that is his job back there, however, leaving him to stop multiple 1v1's isn't a recipe for success. We keep saying that the deepest and most talented part of the squad is in the attack (not saying that isn't true) but where are the goals? This isn't just with the last three games, even all the way back to the World Cup, this team has struggled in an area they really shouldn't be struggling in.
Another excellent discussion with everyone fully engaged. Wow! JCMan finally spoke. Good to see! I am very excited about the direction that this team is headed! A lot of people have been critical of certain players like Kone & Bombito & even Laren & Liam Millar, both of whom I thought played very well. I think that some of these people don't realize the very high calibre of teams that they played against in their last 3 matches & just how young our team is & how little experience they have had playing together (especially the newer players). The only player that I found that has played below his capabilities is Tajon Buchanan & that could be that he is a bit rusty, since he hasn't played much at all for his new team Inter Milan in Italy. I would love to see him go back to being very aggressive & take on these defenders, especially in one-on-one situations. I am so curious to see how their 'Press & Collapse' style will match-up vs Peru & Chile. Yes, their teams are older; but they have both also had a ton of success in this tournament. I just remember hearing very similar "age" discussions before we played vs Croatia in the World cup & we all know how that turned out. (Mind you, Herdman didn't help by insulting the Croatian team before that match, which gave them a ton of incentive. It was one of the worst moves by Herdman throughout his whole tenure here.). Anyway, I would like to see Canada be humble & fully respect these 2 teams, yet still remain confident & be fully ready to go into battle.
Look, it's really great that Canada proved to themselves that they can put up a disciplined defense that can reasonably hold off the world's best. It was the biggest piece that was missing under Herdman and therefore a super important evolution into a mature squad. But now it's time to really lean in on the offense again - just bringing back some of the energy/enthusiasm on the front foot. If they can manage to muster that and find their offensive mojo again......look out.
You say this as if they weren't trying their hardest to score. You say this as if they weren't playing vs #4, #2, and #1 in the world, respectively. You say this as if it's easy to score goals. You need to realize It's so hard to score that not even the GOAT himself could score vs canada. The lads are trying their best and these are the results. We are progressing but this is what progress looks like. A struggle.
Maybe Shaffelburg would really change the game if he played for 90 minutes. Players who make a difference should play more minutes. This is as elite as it gets... play the best!!
Dude is 30 years old already. I like him but I seriously doubt any European club team is bringing over a 30 something goalkeeper from Canada. I hope someone does but it just doesn't make sense.
Who are these people? Can you introduce them or put their actual names on the screen. Is this a podcast by the homeless? Poor grooming, swearing, hope you don't plan to make the big time.
